I feel the lack of player agency in attaining rank is frustrating, because losing and gaining stars relies way too much on luck. And your overall performance means nothing. You can basically do your absolute best and still lose a star no matter what.
They should go back to the point system and even if you lose you'll still get points. Small amount of points but at least it's progressing albeit slow.
"red mage lol" is gonna sum up the early days of CC
I'm a new player. Are there daily/weekly etc pvp quests?
I got to platinum in 40 wins. It took me almost 100 more to break it to diamond. As a Diamond 3, I can tell you that there are huge gaps in skill in each rank. The people that are Crystal are there because they are consistently putting their team in a position to win with their play. They are focusing players down as a group instead of everyone doing a free for all. Once you start to play matches against Crystal players you’ll see that they are there for great reason.
The amount of people in each and every rank would be so incredibly DRASTICALLY different if there was no win streak mechanic, and that in of itself is a testament to how detrimental the RNG factor can be.
I think the fact that one can get to, say B1 and then bad rng can knock you back to B3 is a big pain, along with the win streaks.
Personally I'd remove win streaks and instead have it so once you are in the next sub rank, you stay there, and adjust match making as needed.
That way, if you win 3 in a row and go from, say, B2 to B1, you then don't run the risk of falling all the way back to B3
I can see why they basically copied some other moba/mobaish ranking system. It will be more active cause majority of people wont just climb up and be done with it. It takes more effort.
And since you can not go down in rank (ie gold to silver) I personally dont mind it. Skill and plays matter, so you will in net always go up if you are playing well (class balance is wack, but your fault if you dont wanna play something that is more viable and get hard stuck).
Let me just say it again, climbing up is anything BUT random.
And I dont see why people who barely can get 50% w/r would need to climb up fast. Even they tho in this system can climb eventually cause you do get a bonus star for a win streak.
I’m not gonna sugar coat it, the current ranking system is hot garbage. Ranks don’t properly reflect player skill which it should since it is RANKED. All the people who climbed early on abused the fact that it was a mode nobody knew how to play. I never touched pvp myself and decided to give it a shot about a week after CC was released and dipped my toes into ranked. I picked up the gist very quickly and can play 3 different classes in crystal ranked and consistently top the boards.
Nobody feels like they belonged in their rank with the exception of all 10 crystal ranked players in one game. Even then many crystals don’t belong in that rank. I find it absurd that you can’t derank from a rank once you’ve attained it, as this greatly decreases the quality of higher ranked games just because someone got a lucky win streak and is now where they shouldn’t be. People need to EARN their ranks.
It was immensely frustrating to climb from gold through diamond to crystal because of how often matches were one sided simply because one or two players on either team didn’t understand the basics of the current meta or even how to play their own job and just happened to be in that rank cause they climbed early and got lucky. I spent the better part of 8 hours like three days ago only to end exactly where I had started at diamond 3 with 1 star.
All of my matches usually had me well above my team as well because for example I understood we would not be winning a 3v5 due to the difference in damage output vs relative hp and mp levels and would back off while also using quick chat to tell the other two to fall back. Surprise surprise, they don’t listen, die, stagger respawns even more and that snowballs.
I always took the time to look at post-match summary board to see who performed, who didn’t and how I could’ve played differently if at all to have more impact. It was pretty much always 2 or more people on any given team leading to a team losing. There’s a difference between people playing well and winning the game, and those who play poorly and lose a game. It was rarely the former in my experience.
Even in crystal the matches never feel balanced, you either start winning and stay winning, or vice versa. It would only be every fifth game that would feel back and forth, intense, and engaging because both teams understand the game and all the players were making high impact plays. Crystal and diamond, the two highest ranks feel like a complete joke because the current system they have makes it a joke.
I understand that CC and pvp was reworked so it would be more accessible everyone. But if you’re going to have a ranked matchmaking, make it an actual ranked matchmaking that puts people where they should be, rather than arbitrarily giving or taking away a star per win/loss, win streaks, the fact that you can’t drop out of a rank and having unenforced team comps so 5 dps vs a WAR WHM + 3 dps is possible.
Will I still play it next season? Unless they make some significant changes probably not. The classes themselves feel pretty unique and some small changes to the top and bottom classes would balance things out. Otherwise it’s not worth the hassle trying to rank back up dealing with a coin flip on teammates for mediocre rewards in following seasons. I’d rather stick to casual and try to carry on a D tier class like RPR.
can you drop from platinum back to gold? or from gold to silver?
The largest problem in my opinion is no accounting for players DCing mid match, which is basically an instant loss for that team with one less player. They are going to lose a star even if they are fighting tooth and nail. I don't think you should lose star for circumstances like that. I also think the quality of a match should be accounted for in some way. Like if I get a close loss in overtime that is not the same as a complete blow out cause my teammates rush back in without thinking. I think the first one is star loss worthy while the second was bad matchmaking.
I only participated in the feast the last season and the moment I fell below the point threshold for bronze I gave up on trying to get up to silver since I was literally in the hole and would have to climb out if we went back to numerical value I wouldn't have made it to silver and it was a pain in the ass even trying to get to silver since I got all the way up to bronze one three star and smacked back down to bronze 3-0 Stars.
What’s the purpose of ranking with 6.1? Any reason to work towards it?
Oh c'mon, do we REALLY need to re-explain how ELO and ranking systems work in every new PVP mode/game every time. If you're a PVP player you should know how this works. Ranking is assigning a RANK not points, if you win one and lose one you should be the same rank as when you started, why do people not understand basic maths?
Yeah, I really don't like it. Not even kidding when I say I got stuck in a win lose/win lose loop for a full day. 50+ games still at the exact same as I started. I'm not the greatest player. I never really got very high in the Feasts cause I started a year before it ended. Idk I dislike everything about the patch expect the new gamemode, which was a mark improvement from the Feasts.
But this just makes me not want to que rank. Their no point to queing rank. Their no cool rewards just… a dumb adventure plate frame and maybe you get a title (That we still don't know) by the end of the season.
I was stuck at diamond 5 for days. I stopped playing this, it was fun at the beginning but in diamond it is pure frustration. Also the matchmaking really sucks in my opinion and the jobs are not balanced at all.
Maybe this a bronze and silver problem, just i find a 50 percent win rate is linked to the RNG of the teams skills, fighting all over the map, 1 vs 4s, and no coordination or working together ,
yeah, it's rough when you hit a few wins, and then suddenly you lose a bunch. Erasing your progress almost completely. and they take the time to give you the report card at the end, and yet those stats don't seem to mean anything towards anything. Even those stats are very dependent on the game and your role. i mean as a WAR main i consistently out 'heal' healers, and out DPS DPS classes. but that's because i literally sit in pocket and not die.
I have a feeling that PvP will experience Heroes of the Storm problems.
ranking system in CC in fine, imho
After reaching gold i completely lost interest due many cheaters.
i cant stress how much I hate going from Gold 2-3stars and then losing until Gold 4-0stars only to climb back up to the same place and have a combination of BLM MNK RPR as my teammates and get decimated again and again
with a partner register for one class and one for another specially ruins.look at the site, there are players who have less than 100 wins in the top crystal.but I am silent about the balance of classes.and cheats (scripts for automatic application of abilities under any conditions).#nicepvp
You may not like it, but I like the star system. Under the old system which was suppose to help people climbing there was a downside, especially when adding that healers were nonexistent. Towards the middle of the season, silver through unranked games would die, because there was not enough people in a particular role. If you started late or just couldnt climb, oh well. That system mainly benefitted the top players more than the lower rank players. I've personally wasted 4 months in a dead queue.
My biggest issue is that you can't derank. If you dont belong in that tier you should derank to get yourself together. Denying that ultimately denies your climbing process as you're now forced to play at a higher settings. That alone is leading me to believe that 90% of the players, including myself, is boosted.
This, it is far too difficult because the whole system is solo and RNG based. This would at least alleviate some of that pain. Additionally, the overtime needs an overhaul too there is no reason why these "quick matches" should last four times longer than they need to. Matching is RNG enough as it is to be adding more of this nonsense in.
I completely agree with this. So much!
Ever since 6.1 came out I flew up to silver rank and then ever since, I have been stuck dancing over silver 2 for weeks! Constantly win/lose/win/lose. I'm confident in my PvP skills and even with a semi decent team I can usually hard carry (I've carried so many matches it's unreal) yet the matchmaking is so poor… I'm constantly being put into teams that barely know what they're doing, which has made ranking feel so frustratingly worthless. Gaining a hard earned win to then suddenly lose it all again seconds later with a team that don't know what to do can really start to feel frustrating when it keeps happening consistently for weeks 😪 I finally hit gold rank tonight and I'm happy to stop there. I wish they'd make it easier to climb though as I love CC, but the progression just feels so aggravatingly bad
The old system didn’t work either. Qualifier rounds were essentially the same as stars and could just as easily gate-keep you. Not to mention losing streaks dropping your rank BACKWARDS. The problem here is negative progress in a system HEAVILY dependent on luck (team comp. meta balancing. Rank distribution. Griefers. Etc) That needs to not be a thing. Personal performance should be weighted more than how lucky you are with teammates. The first step to that is to stop punishing people for being unlucky.
All the salty people in the comment section lmao…
I really do wish they have a “protection” thing when you did well in game, like the amount of time you’re in the crystal or the amount of kills you got. Been stuck in gold for 3 days now and it’s frustrating because no matter how well I performed but then my team suddenly decided to go to Narnia, i’d still lose stars. There were a lot of instances that we were able to push the crystal back because I was able to chain kills but would still lose because team got distracted and left the crystal while on overtime. Its really frustrating to see my stars drop just because I’m in a bad team.
