Before anyone thinks it, no I’m not calling anyone out for “bad content” This issue exists in most MMORPGs, but since my bases is between WoW vs FFXIV’s YouTube scene, this is where this video is coming from.
In the end, making interesting and exciting content for MMOs is probably one of the most difficult things you can come up with, unless you have the time, energy, and most importantly, have the mental readiness for failure, because a lot of it can, and will happen, but the end result really helps a lot.

My man with another banger
FFXIV Reddit is so weird, unless you are big tiddy waifu fanart it always gets downvoted.
great stuff as usual, bra jobbat ❤
Similar to how supply vs demand works, a lot of people are looking for guides to have fun in the game over watching someone having fun in it
I agree with it, another channel that I really enjoyed was eorzea archive, they were trying to be the destiny lore youtubers of ff14, and the sad part is, the story if ff14 is pretty easy to understand most of the time, and whoever is invested doesn't go hunting down for that kind of content. It's a damn shame that something like your trial video struggled to catch on too. I find those kinds of contents a lot more interesting to watch than mr. happy's weekly qa for the 1000th time, but those behemoths of the yt ff space will continue to gobble up because they found something that worked for them. I feel like even though the game has received a huge spike of popularity, it also showed how fragile being a ff content creator is. As always lemon hope this one is a banger. Algorithm engagement posting on your vids so you get the yt dough someday
If you wanna thrive on reddit, you gotta have PG Humor and Big Catgirl tiddies
Id like to consider myself to be a content creator for this game. atleast small. And the main thing that I always try and strive for is just my own enjoyment. Theres no point in making a video that you dislike or one that didnt make you laugh. If you dont enjoy your own work, why would people react any differently. I always strive to make things that make me chuckle and laugh and just making things I enjoy. Idk I feel like content creationg should be a way to express ones own inner creativity for oneself.
A good portion of the humor in this community comes from things like safe jokes that have been beaten to death (Elusive_Jump.mp4) and there isn't room for much fresh stuff. people don't wanna make risky jokes for the exact reason you mentioned, someone could take it the wrong way and off to the GM Gulag you go. and i feel like that's why drama (especially petty stuff) a lot of the time takes the forefront of the content creation side of ff14. any time a person or thing threatens the entitled, safe-space seeking side of the community, it gets witch hunted.
good video mate, keep it up. <3
I always wondered why FF14 had such popularity but isn't reflected as much on Youtube or Twitch. I assumed its because people would just rather play than watch content, but I think you hit the nail on the coffin with this video. I wish FF content creators we're more experimental with their content, and wish more people in the community would pay attention to said content and bring those content creators up. I mean we are "best community" right…?
Third party tools are amazing and I'll always be for using them, YoshiP be damned. So, so many simple changes to the game that the developers don't care to look at that update the game to the early 200s standards.
…
Huh? This game came out in the 2010s? Then why's it missing simple things such as individual name colors or chat bubbles that MMOs from the early 200s have!
I do have some thoughts, but I mostly do agree. The "sweetspot" for humor in 14 is very hard to pin down. Cant be too edgy, but cant be too clean, gotta involve catgirl jokes, cant be mean to individuals, but can totally bash an entire job. Its a very weird grey area. But some people do it really well, the one that pops to mind is Pint. I do think the pool is kinda limited though to how much you can do between waiting for the next big meme to happen.
I do think squares stance on 3rd party tools hurts content creators. I think its alot deeper then "3rd party good" or "3rd party bad", but it does get frustrating when things that are purely cosmetic get treated with the same animosity as straight up hacks. But until square decides to be more "this ok and this not ok" with stuff, which may never happen, its sadly just what it is. I do hope it gets a little more opened up one day though.
As for reddit, dont feel bad. 14 isent the only community to be weirdly overly hostile to content creators. Saw alot of it back in ESO as well. Maybe its just something with MMOs, but people get very weird about almost anything considered "outside work". I mean its even an ongoing meme to crop just the boobs of any fanmade/fanbought art of characters and post it on what its arguably the biggest meme subreddit for the game. I think overall with 14, when it comes to content creation, its both hardwork and luck. Ive seen people who put obviously ALOT of work into their vids with very little views, and vise vera. But the hope is that if its good quality, sooner or later people will notice.
Very interesting topic you raised and I do see your point clearly. It's a difficult topic one has to think about but it's good to see someone actually pointing it out! Great job! :3
I feel like a lot of FFXIV content creators are former WoW people trying to make WoW content, but with FFXIV.
Basically, I think you CAN make really good FFXIV content–funny shit, even–but there aren't many people who have figured out how to do it, yet.
My example would be BeneG. That guy has figured out how to make funny fucking content with FFXIV, by capturing both the silly and the emotional aspects of the game. His editing skills are also chef's kiss. 😂
I just want to say that for proof that FFXIV content can be good without making guides or news is drakgamestein he is by far the best content creator I have found for this game because its just him and friends clearing fights and making really funny jokes and then for more elaborate videos check out zanekonpu they make mini films using ffixv as the medium that I found fascinating.
Well I'm done with this overly worded free advertisement of a comment.
I am the artist for a content creator named synodic scribe. He makes lord content and I hopped on the project because I liked he was making but the visuals were so shit that I forced myself in there. When I was trying to get into the game there was like no content. Not even easy fluff videos like Penutbutter gamer making videos on Story of Seasons/ Harvest moon.
It’s upsetting. I wish I could just listen to cool FFXIV content.
I can’t even fully enjoy the content I’m help making because I’m often too involved with the prossess. This is suffering.
Bro is spewing out facts over here while I feverishly try to make videos and show people there's more to the game than Drama, Glams, and Raids. The lore content is viable I swear! XD
oh damn lemon boy is back
