FFXIV Community DEBATES 6.2 Hildi Relic Requirements…

Quazii reacts to a divided FF14 community who seems split over the decision to have the Hildibrand questline as a pre-requisite for the upcoming Patch 6.2 Relic Weapons.

  1. The only problem I see if that I did not complete ARR, SB or ShB relic weapon systems. So I doubt I'll complete this. So will I be locked from doing ANY Hildebrand after Endwalker?

  2. I loved this announcement. I laughed my @ss off just at the thought. At the end of the day, relics are optional, and there is always a grind for relics(zodiac back in the day ugh lol). Ok, so some people haven't done it, and don't like the humor, that's fine, and if you want the relic bad enough you can just skip through it. I love the goofy shenanigans personally, and am looking forward to it. The thought of having a giant frying pan to knock someone over the head with to me is hysterical. Also, as someone else mentioned I'm sure they looked at metrics to see how many people have done the Hildy chain, and feel that there are enough who have indeed completed it. I really don't see them putting it behind something that only a small percent of people have completed. At the end of the day, just do the things that you have fun doing. That's my 2 cents.

  3. It's all preference and in my opinion. if the other camp REALLY doesnt want to do the Manderville questline, they dont have to! The relic weapon has always been optional content. It will be the BiS for raiders but the game has also always given another weapon of equivalent ilevel to it.

  4. I personally don't see a problem with making Hildibrand a prerecquisite for the relic questline. As mentioned already, those who aren't a fan of the Hildi cutscenes can just skip them and it shouldn't take too long to get through them all. In fact, the Hildibrand step will probably be one of the shortest steps of the relic questline compared to how long the future, more grindy steps will likely take, going off of experience with previous relics.

The fear that the weapons will be not be serious enough is definitely a valid concern. I love joke weapons, but I also love really cool weapons, so I personally hope they do both serious and non-serious relic weapons. Perhaps your relic when you first get it could look really silly, but upgrading would cause it to turn into a serious, epic looking weapon like relics from previous expansions. Then anytime you want to use the silly verion again, you could glamour it on via the replica relics

  5. I think the people who are not on board are just wrong. FF14 is a RPG. There will forever be content gated by story. Even raids have stories. If these people complain about Hildibrand, they are only going to whinge again when questing gets in front of their loot. I have no sympathy for these people at all, so they can go skip cut scenes or not start the relic quest. It doesn't matter one bit.

  6. People forget sometimes the fact that…
This is a paid service , let them complain…stop trying to correct them cuz " is a you problem" no…is not how it works, remember,we can't just disagree with them just cuz they dont like something or "could care less and start insulting them…. not the way it works….

  7. I'm down for Manderville weapons, what leaves a sour taste in my mouth is that we're (probably) not getting a large scale zone like Bozja and Eureka in Endwalker, especially since they really nailed the concept in Shadowbringers.

  8. I find is refreshing personally. Some of the old relic grinds seemed to have a dark, tedious and somewhat unsettling settings. Some were just plain maddening in the mats grind, like the Realm Reborn variant was a mixture of both torture and heart conditions plus a huge gil sink. The Heavensward relic grind was equally as infuriating so you can understand how refreshing Stormblood and even Shadowbringers was in terms of progress. True it got to the point that getting a specific relic was not difficult at all if you were aware of the system but it still had that hint of, "this weapon will make others pale in comparison," type grind that got old after awhile.

Linking a relic quest to Hildibrandt though is actually pretty clever. I love Hildibrandt and his full out comical and satire nature is refreshing in a game that sometimes seems designed to give you permanent emotional damage (yes I'm looking at you Feelsbringers 😭, I still miss you Emet-Selch). So something satire based would be very welcoming, especially for those that have finished the Endwalker expansion.

As Heath Ledger as the Joker said, "don't be so serious," and I agree. Its depressing, not everything needs to be doom and gloom all the time.

  9. Wait until it comes out before complaining, I remember everyone and their mother malding over time being spent on adventure plates and PvP, and now they are two highly beloved features. Give it a chance to come out at least before you cry about it.

  10. Relics haven't even been good glam wince HW, so here's the 3rd expansion in a row I'm skipping these timesinks. Ultimate weapons are still better glam anyways

  11. some blu mage spells were locked behind Hildi as well … this is just another great way of them promoting their content .. I mean after all they put A LOT of work into it so why not advertise it

  12. I have 2 issues with this decision:
The refusal to allow people to get into the content without stupid barriers to the entry. Exact same mistake as bozja, where you had to do a waaaay too long questline to unlock it alongside the Ivallice raids, in contrast to the instant access you get to Eureka

Second and to me more important: I'm very disappointed by their willingness to disgard the Eureka and Bozja systems, where instead of learning from their mistakes and making them better, they just run away from the whole thing. I believe the systems have the potential to be good without having to be trashy rng filled grindfests

Edit: mind you btw I fkin hate both Eureka and Bozja as they are in many ways but I just believe in the potential they have, and the whole second point is if they disgard the idea, which they seem to be. But even if they do have a new zone, I have very low expectations due to how they refused to make things better the second time around, but hey third time's the charm I guess

  13. Ok so here's the thing. Doing Hildi as a pre-requisite for the relic weapon is the same like doing Ivalice (hate it) to get the Bozja relic (loved the story). And i been reading alot about changing from grinds and stuffs and its like, no, doing hildi does nothing to the actual progress we should do (just hope is not an awful fate spam that i did for HW and ShB) but at least it can set the pace of the story since Hildi is… well.

Personally like you say Quazii, not every piece of content is for everyone, and i'm not a fan of hildi, finished the ARR questline, enjoy the first part, got incredible bored around the quests with the Ultros and i skipped everything and never touch HW hildi and beyond. So the idea of having a questline related to content i don't like and that i avoid doing it sucks, could be completely different but semi naked Godbert in the image say the contrary.

If i like the weapons i'll still grind them, and high chance if the story is similar to hildi i wont enjoy it so i'll go to skiptown, but you can get everything so it is what it is i guess.

  14. Personally I think relics being tied to the Hildy quest chain is a good thing. Hopefully it'll be more fun to grind the relic weapons this time around!

Relic weapons are mostly side content used for glamour anyways so I personally don't see the big fuss. If you don't like side content for whatever reason then don't do it, stick to what you like doing. Even if they might be BiS for a while, they won't be forever. Just look at the bozja and cryptlurker weapons from the last expansion as an example. You aren't really shooting yourself in the foot if you decide you don't wanna do it. It's also content that's been around forever and it's super easy to get threw. That already makes unlocking the content way easier than Bozja/Eureka.

  15. I am fine with it being behind the hildi questline from a purely selfish perspective… It at least made me go back and actually finish the questline as I left it in Stormblood after the first quest because I was taking a break from the game and never really came back for it.
On the other hand, I feel it'd be better if this was not required, since this is forcing people into something, they have 0 interest in, even if it's just a bunch of teleporting around and pressing skip, forcing people into content is eh… even if the weapon itself is optional and not necessary to obtain for anything. But oh well.

As for the new zone, I genuenly believe this "new zone" was converted into Island Sanctuaries and the weapon questline will be a return to how relics used to work in ARR and HW, we'll be farming FATEs, dungeons, raids and what not in order to obtain materials for the weapon, from existing content. To be honest, I was hoping we'd get one of those again… There's a reason the only relic weapons I ever fully finished were the ARR and HW ones lmao. But we'll see what happens.

  16. one can onley be a true mander-mander-manerville man to do what ever a manderville man can, when wielding a weapon most gentlemanly.

thus start skipping or become a fellow hildi enjoyer

  17. I mean, previously you had to do the whole Ivalice 24-man raid before you got to unlock Bozja & Zadnor.
And you had to do all of the Crystal Tower before you could start Shadowbringers.
It's not a new thing that they're locking you off from content. Besides Hildibrand take 2-3h at worst if you're skipping the cutscenes.
