It would be fantastic to see as many people as possible test as much as possible on the cloud servers. The more we test, the more this fantastic idea can prevent future expansion and patch launch issues from congestion.

  1. A simplistic way of looking at cloud DC is that square are renting additional resources from a 3rd party cloud vendor to eleviate congestion as opposed to expanding their own hardware.

  2. the true stress test is realizing that you get logged out per every book you use and have to sit through the ~300 people queue every time
i made a hrothgar because last time i made a hrothgar character i deleted him like 3 hours later bc i hated the running animation too much so this felt poetic

  3. This does have a lot of potential going forward. It's good to see the performance is good. I'm in a 500 person queue right now so there are definitely people participating. It's too bad they didn't give a title or something for doing it.

  4. Cloud Servers are amazing, personally I think they are using Microsoft's Azure Service, hence the port to XBox. I wonder if they are looking at going full cloud servers in future as the tech is there.

  5. Would love to test it but when I tried to log in I was 4k in the queue…finally logged in and used my boosted book and had it boot me and had to try and wait again. If it was a bit of a shorter queue, I'd like to contribute but way too long of a wait.

  6. You shouldn't expect any additional latency with a cloud based server versus an on prem server, assuming that they're making appropriate usage of content delivery networks and availability zones. The latency normally associated with playing "in the cloud" is due to the full game being streamed from the cloud (i.e. client and potentially any services). Your client is still running locally, so that's not a factor here.

  7. Exactly my experience as well. Based in EU and have an alt on NA. Latency usually is noticeable, but here it‘s just as responsive as playing on my home server on the EU servers. I even got to the point at which I am questioning if those beta servers REALLY are located in NA. 🤣🤣 Plus, even my poor old PS4 is benefitting greatly from this setup. Going to Limsa was heavenly, no characters popping up in the default T-pose and no sliding for my character because it wouldn‘t load movement animations. 🤣 Absolutely love it!

  8. There doesn't seem to be any big difference in latency between going on the normal NA servers or NA cloud (for me both ping between 120 – 140ms ) . But latency depends on so many things not just the location of the servers but also of your own location and network infrastructure. For now it is just testing how cloud network works. If it goes good, they can be much more flexible for multiple locations without buying and installing new local hardware all the time.

  9. Average ping to the cloud servers from Europe was about 113ms for me. Didn't feel anything different honestly, though on Cerb I usually have around 21ms. So there certainly was a difference in pure numbers, though that Microsoft Paperclip might have made it less noticeable.

  10. I'm in EU but the latency performance i'm getting is trully unbelievable. i sometimes feel like the response is better compared to my EU server. Not really sure how that is possible but the 265ms ping i'm getting in Cloud Server feels like my usual 80ms.

  11. Having a blast looking at players name. It's hillarious seeing player name's such as: Complaining Streamer, Complaint Creator, Sadge Noviewers, Nit Picking , No Content, Iam Quitting . LMAO.
