Explanation: The all 9s damage number you see is faked. Under the hood the game just kills you without dealing damage, but they put the number in there for visual feedback. Problem is, the number is sent out the tiniest hair before the damage would actually apply, and if you pop the orbs in that tiny gap it'll send the number but not actually hit the "kills you" part. So you get all 9s but live.
