About this game: Final Fantasy XIV is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by Square Enix. Directed and produced by Naoki Yoshida, it was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 3 in August 2013, as a replacement for the failed 2010 version of the game, with support for PlayStation 4 and OS X releasing later. Final Fantasy XIV takes place in the fictional land of Eorzea, five years after the events of the original 2010 release. At the conclusion of the original game, the primal dragon Bahamut escapes from its lunar prison to initiate the Seventh Umbral Calamity, an apocalyptic event that destroys much of Eorzea. Through the gods’ blessing, the player character escapes the devastation by time travelling five years into the future. As Eorzea recovers and rebuilds, the player must deal with the impending threat of invasion by the Garlean Empire from the north.

The original Final Fantasy XIV, released in September 2010, was a critical and commercial failure. In response, then-Square Enix President Yoichi Wada announced that a new team, led by Yoshida, would take over and attempt to fix the issues with it. This team was responsible for generating content for the original version as well as developing a brand new game that would address all of the previous release’s criticisms. This new game, initially dubbed “Version 2.0”, features a new game engine, improved server infrastructure, and revamped gameplay, interface, and story. The original version shut down in November 2012 and was followed by an alpha test for Version 2.0.

The game released to a largely positive reception; critics praised the game for its solid mechanics and progression, and they commended Yoshida for turning the project around. After a poor 2013 fiscal year, Square Enix executives attributed the company’s 2014 return to profitability in part to the game’s strong sales and subscriber base, reaching a total of over 22 million registered players by April 2021.

  1. What advice would you give to a new player? – Edit apologies about the microphone quality, my microphone broke and for the time being using a Nintendo Wii singstar microphone! xD – Vance.

  2. I think you said you'd put a link to the community finder in the description, but I don't see it there.
As far as advice goes, try to get into the "novice network" asap. it's usually a great way to get a community of people to help before you have an FC, just ask around in a main city.

  3. Just got back into the game after a LOOOOOOOONG time out.. So much has changed. I decided to do a fresh restart and loving it. Just taking my time. Why in the hell would you buy a battle pass to fly through as a first timer.. I have gone through countless different mmo's (My ff11 server is down for a while), and this one easily shines above the rest.

  4. Is the road to 70 worth it? I made a account 2 years ago and got 2 chars to 47-50 but quit, I started again 2 days ago should I make a new character so I can get the buff to level faster and more characters

  5. You have no idea how happy you mentioned the auto face option that is literally what made me quit the first time I started playing was going to give it another try for the new xpac when I came across this video
I'm so excited I could kiss you on how happy I won't have to deal with that mechanic ever again

  6. As an alternative to turning off auto face target, which is very useful, I suggest using the Legacy control scheme. Not only does this allow you to back up at full speed, but allows you to continue attacking while moving away from a target. It takes probably a fight or two to get used to, but is more powerful in my opinion.

  7. Do not bother with food. New players get sooooooo much extra xp that I started Heavensward at lvl 59 and I was rushing msq only. Do a roulette run or two and you will be ahead of some1 who had perma 3% xp buff but chose not to help other ppl dungeon runs

  8. I started with FF in 2019 and stopped playing because exact of the same reason you mentioned at 2:00 i played as a whitemage and was bored.
2 Weeks ago i started a DK and now i cant stop playing, switching class was the best decision for me.

Thank you for this guide, extremely helpfull!

  9. Ah…. just yesterday I made my character- a conjurer. Well, they also told me not to start with priest when playing WoW and I did that, so oh well ^^;

  10. I'm new here but not new to videogames at all, and I think the main problem here are players that get into the game with a farming mentality. Square really cares about the story and believes in hard work so skipping everything and being obsessed with farming doesn't really make you a better player. And I say so having witnessed many "experienced" players being a pain. If you love what you do you will be amazing, cause you will care to explore every inch of it getting better, but if u are there for the loot, or the achievements only, maybe you won't be as good as u think.

  11. i made the mistake of not choosing a recommended server because i heard gilgamesh was better 🙁 i also don't really like servers with little to no people in it, it feels a bit lonely imo. would this impact my gameplay greatly?

  12. For gamepad/controller players or keyboard/mouse players who are using the Legacy controls, there is literally no reason to disable the auto-face option when attacking. That is because, in Legacy controls, your character moves in relation to your camera angle regardless of which direction your character is currently facing.

Still…even in standard controls with keyboard/mouse. Just never let go of right-click and whenever you move your character, it will always be in relation to your camera angle, but I'm not a fan of standard controls because you can't run backward (toward the camera) at full speed. You backpedal instead at roughly half speed.

  13. This is all great but for any other MMO vets looking to start FFXIV I would recommend the ARR skip and even the 70 job boost. The game mechanics are more or less the same as many other MMOs, just spend a little time at a target dummy and watch an opener/rotation guide or two and you’ll be good to go. ARR quests drag on forever and are really boring story wise, everything after is great though. Again, sorry his advice is for people to go have already been playing MMOs for years and are used to the typical tab target combat. If you’re brand new then do exactly what’s stated in the video.

  14. Curious to know if there are guilds out there that really likes to help their guild mates get better? I right now am a brand new little sproutling lol, and I like guilds that act like Krucial or Kaif (basically a bunch of nutballs who don’t care about AOTC and goof on each other if they may make mistakes). I’m the type who I don’t care how many times the person needs help over the same thing, or a simple quest, I will gladly do it. I am. Co-GM of both guilds in WoW currently and I am always seeing if anyone in my guilds need help or want to run stuff. Silence. So will I be facing the same?

  15. You can bind the “confirm” command to a key(I use R) and it’ll auto lock to the closest NPC, important thing/gatherable etc. and also confirm/use/talk. And progress story lines and also hand stuff over….. it’s a great thing IMO. It makes the game so less clicky

  16. I've got a question for the jobs and the leveling process. I've got a test account and started as a thaumaturgist (blackmage thingy?). Currently I am lvl 22 and just played my first dungeon (the shipyard pirate bay…thing). While I do like the playstyle I feel like I am very slow and I have no actual idea of how good I perform. Overall I found myself struggling with multiple enemies at once when in story quests or when I face bosses. It takes a very long time to kill them. Is this the major way for all classes or is it that the mage takes a while before he truely dishes out some numbers? I'm afraid to put in all effort into going full ham on the class and later be let down when I cannot compete with more difficult tasks anymore but I also want to focus on one class first to get a better idea of the game itself.

  17. A bit late but… There are no roles to choose in a dungeon/duty.
When you picked gladiator (later paladin) , you will be the tank. No choice to play as dps, or healer, like in other games. Obviously later on you get to level other jobs to switch, but as my first class/job it caught me offguard when I realized duties are a required part of the msq, and that I had to tank it.
