UPDATE of the Mission 68 Fisher and the spearfishing update from Endwalker.
This quest is the only quest that requires a different type of fishing, spearfishing.
The mechanisms are totally different but you should be able to get it easily with the video.
Important note:
– You need to activate “Truth of Oceans” to be able to see the shadow node that will drop the Dafangshi
– You need to use Shark Eye to see the normal nodes

Just to note the speed of the fish also determines what type of fish you are catching. So in this case you want the Large – Fast moving fish to trigger the quest.

I am having an issue with this quest. I get 7 Ichthyosaurs and get the chat message that and elusive creature has appeared. But I do not get the minimap proc. I have tried restarting the quest, exiting the area coming back, catch around 20 of them. Nothing helps. I am stuck on this quest.

Long story short u need 7 Ichthyosaur to trigger the special node. Ichthyosaur is the Biggest fastest one, if it goes slow is a salmon. And when the node shows, the middle size and slow one is the Dafangshi. There are many so spear away. Got 8 on 1 node. (we need only 3)

I thought I was just getting really bad RNG I had over 20 of the Icthyosaur and it has not triggered,
Silly me forgot to enable Truth of Oceans and there it was. So morale of the store make sure you have that buff up . Hope it helps someone from not listening or reading properly lol

hello im having a hard time doing this. every time I go to the nod seem like Im not getting square on the fish like your are getting them. is there something im doing wrong . ?
I think mine must be bugged somehow. I even have a stack of 25 Itchyosaurs. I received the message as to the shadows but never once got a Dafangshi. Very frustrating as I had been at it for hours. I dropped the quest and going to try again. Edit: I do have Truth of Oceans activated
