Do You Really Need Gil in FFXIV? 💰New Player Advice!

Hi Gamers!

Do you really need gil in FFXIV? If so, how much? Do you have to grind for it? Can casual players get around with less? How much gil is enough? If you have questions regarding gil, how important it is, and how much you really need – I discuss it in this video.

Trying something new with this guide, so let’s see how it does! I’d like to see your comments below! Let me know if the longer time is okay, more ‘advice/subjective’ content, warnings, etc. I appreciate your feedback and will always respond to all comments.

Thank you for watching, Gamers – and I’ll see you in game! 💜

  1. I never had more than around 4.5 million gil. But I'm still relatively new with just four months in the game and I'm catching up on many things and don't have the time to focus on just making money.

Was it useful to have money? Yes, definitely. It really helps to upgrade gear once a character is at max level and the crafters are not able to create it yet. I once spent 1 million on dyes to get the desired glamour for my miner without leveling my retainers to 90. But for the MSQ, it's pretty much not needed until level 90 and even then players can just farm dungeons instead if they don't want to spend money. I bought all of my level 90 gear off of the MB, that's Rinascita at first and then Diadochos.

For example, in 6.4, my highest level job had an item level of 610, meaning I couldn't finish the MSQ thanks to a low item level (615 needed). So I bought some gear off the MB to just be able to do it without waiting. So I'll continue to earn gil to never be stuck in the game.

That said, I'm trying to make money along the way to be able to afford anything I want or need. I have around 4 million gil worth of items in my retainer's inventory (+ tons of items that I don't know if they sell well or not or how much they're worth), though, some of those should get more expensive and I'm fine with waiting for that.

In terms of hard cash, I have 2.1 million on my person and around another 1.3 million on my retainers. That's more than enough for all my needs in the foreseeable future. I don't need gear for now and nothing else that's really expensive.

And yes, you can purchase other services with gil as well, probably a lot of them in Balmung Quicksand. But what do I know? I'm not even on an American data center and can't do there afaik.

  2. absoultely agree, i made about 850m gil back in a 2 month grind and 2 expansions later im still over 800m after buying all 4 golden mounts, spending money on anything i want, pots and food for raid, you just earn so much passive gil in 14 that its hard to spend it all.

  3. Lol. Loved that comment about the Warrior of Light not needing to be sitting on the syndicate.

I don't need to amass a fortune equal to that of Lolorito. But among other things like housing, armor, etc,

But one thing I want to do is collect a relic weapon for each expansion. And that often costs A LOT of gil.

I'm sure after a certain point, it'll start collecting dust. But at where I am currently, could definitely use the boost

  4. I usually keep around 500-750k. bare minimum for food and pots, haven't seen a million in years lol
lowest i've been was 10k but then i ran around and did some gathering and made some gil to get by again.

  5. I bought every gil sink in the game, and have around 115kk left at the moment. I've financed friends houses, but now my gil exists more as a flex than any actual purpose. 10kk is good to have, if you wanna speedrun new content, or do dumb things like "world first" for…. crafting a random endgame item when new patches drop XD
Making money is a 'fun' activity for me, which I do whenever a new patch drops.

For anyone who wants an easy way – then just take the MLM route – When new content drops, sell all the stuff the people need to get to crafting endgame. (quest items, leather, gear that is exactly 10 lvl below max, etc…)

If you're trying to make money right now – best tip is just use your retainers to farm nothing but shards, then sell those shards. (Dont sell too low – all you have in stock will be sold at max price on friday and sunday!) Sounds simple – and it is! Makes you around 1~2kk a day at 9 retainers – or around 200~400k a day at 2 retainers, and you only need to run a few endgame dungeons or trusts per month, to finance it. (Hence the pay-to-win aspect shows itself, where if you have more retainers, you linearly scale your profits)

  6. Ive only been playing since November but ive finished the MSQ. I spend more time gathering and crafting than doing multiplayer stuff. I have only around 30m but thats mostly from selling on the marketboard.all my crafter's are max level amd all have indagator gear and pentamelded. For me being able to craft L90** items is more important than most other things lol. Its satisfying making that item that you know your hard work and effort in building your crafters has led you to.
I know people get that same feeling and more from doing the savage raids etc but i research dungeons to make sure i don't make a fool of myself. Anxiety is preventing me from doing the hard core things because im so afraid ill mess up and then do because worrying about it so much lol but its ok, it would be cool to be a top raider but its cool being a top gatherer amd crafter.
I spend my game time pottering around, doing a bit of this and that. Im currently doing shared fetes up to 6 initially plus sightseeing area by area and by expansion but not ARR first lol. Im also soloing the dungeons to get the Lanners because i want rhe gold one. Ive got5/7 of them. I got the fox cub, i got the puffin and im pretty good at that dungeon now. Just this and that is where im happiest. I do wonderous tales but not the faux thing, i keep thinking i will try though.
I guess ive found where i excel and it isn't everybody's thing but its my thing and that is the beauty of FF14 and why it just works so well. You can be good at so many different things. I honestly have never played anything that even comes close to it. I absolutely hate grinding games but here i am grinding gathering and its ok 😅
    Sorry long post :/

  7. having max level crafters and gathering being willing to get your own materials for crafting making extra and put it on the market you learn quickly people are lazy and will buy what they could easily make 500 mill on 2 retainers and another 300 mill on me I discovered I hardly ever buy what I can get myself at that point I stopped worrying about gil

  8. Im assuming ypu don't do end game content, but many players pay for extreme moumts, and gear from current savage and less common but still there is paying a healer or tank for fast q's to level up faster
