BURNOUT! A Huge FFXIV Problem (And how to deal with it!) [FFXIV 6.35]

BURNOUT! Many FFXIV Players are being burnt out from FFXIV and I’ve been hearing for months now about this and I figured it’s time to talk about it and give my perspective.

  1. To be clear, I myself am not burnt out on FFXIV. Just IRL stuff is really really intense lately. Also trying to get my BIG FFXIV project done for 6.4! I WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN! I WILL!!!!!!!

  2. I know I'm going to sound like a weirdo for saying this, but I kinda look forward to burnout. I mean I feel bad that I don't feel like playing a game that I love, but I wouldn't have burned out in the first place if I didn't love it and want to keep playing to the point I played it too much. I hope it doesn't sound like I'm diminishing other people's experience, especially when it's your job or when it affects your groups/ friends, it's just my weird take on what tells me if I really enjoyed a game or not.

  3. I love to see everyone say to take a break when the game itself doesn’t really support this decision. Getting something like a house is hell in this game, and the game basically leaves you shackled to a sub if you want to keep your house. You can’t take a break for more than a little over a month or you’ll end up losing all the hard work and time you put into that house.

  4. not burned out, the opposite I hate the new combat since shadowbringers and just want a more complex game that doesn't need elitism based content to feel engaged on roles like healer

  6. My group is a casual raid group and I would disagree that they don't have burn out. i think something that contributed to my groups burn out is the way the current fights are designed. we have everyone on a two minute timer and now all mechanics happen on that two minute timer. Additionally many mechanics have many many different patterns, and they just don't find these mechanics fun to figure out and memorize.

  7. I am playing GW2 and doing my legendary trinkets. It's Amazing!!! with so much going on in open world maps even the beginner ones unlike ffxiv which legitimately ASKS you to 'be bored' until you're max level which is then again boring after doing the raid tier

  8. I've been tackling this tier with a very casual static, we're still suffering through p8s p1. This is my first tier and I have heard similar things from a few friends who have gone hard on this tier. I have felt close to burn out when I went hard on raids on some weeks. My solution was to shift from raiding to other in game activities, going through msq with alta, checking out housing and going through random pieces of content to keep it fresh and exciting. I still got lots to learn, but I'm trying to ground myself in my approach to it.

Thanks for covering this subject Cole.

  9. I'm only sticking around for my static. I would have left until the next expansion by now. I have found island sanctuary and criterion dungeons and the relic weapons just didn't hit the mark for me, I even perfer eureka pagos over them lol. I'm not burnt out, I only play a few hours a week. I'm genuinely just disappointed with what's on offer this expansion, and I think a fair amount of people are too. I am eager to find out what the development plan is moving forward, but find myself a little less optimistic after Endwalker. ^^

These are just my honest opinions, and I do like the game very much and am excited to jump into the next savage tier. ^^

  10. Play a whole new game , game was never meant to be played for long periods of time against the whole purpose of paying a monthly subscription game has zero progression unlike FFXI after you ride all of the carnival rides there’s no reason to come back to that carnival. Ten years game still restricts you from farming tomes oh that’s right if you hear out in a month then you hit the lack of content wall , it’s like looking at a Beautiful car but in the inside of the car is basic in all aspects. Right now just looking.l towards the next final fantasy online game hopefully yoshi p isn’t a part of it because nobody wants to do the same thing rinse an repeat for ten years

  11. Burnout is not a new thing in FFXIV, it has happened for almost a decade now. We just hear about it more now since the game is bigger than it's ever been and it's harder for the XIV defense force to silence any criticism towards the game.

I think the cookie cutter content releases are the real culprit and have been since the early days. It's unfortunate that so many players defend those so seeing a change is unlikely.

  12. Ironically the first thing I did when I began burning out on FFXIV was make an alt
This was in 5.2, verse savage, just couldn't take it anymore trying to get through the tier and said "forget it I'm not gonna play for a while"
But then I decided to make an alt, see how the start of the game felt again after so much time plus the knowledge I now had
Surprisingly it reignited my love for the game again, and I subsequently got a little addicted to alts, so I just swap them off every now and again if I get bored of playing one

  13. I had to quit ff14, I lost my love for it after finishing endwalker. It's not really a game good for solo players. And can't do other stuff cuz no guild or friends to play with :p

I haven't played in about a year now. And I miss it but looking back at what they added doesn't interest me. Can't do savage content cuz I don't have the time, can't do extremes cuz of same reason.

I love ff14 lots, been playing since release, and it hurts a bit that I can't enjoy it anymore 😢

  14. yep I recommend subbing for on patch month and then resubbing once every 1-2 months. Definitely not for everybody but works wonders as you do the content you want in that patch month ( i.e msq, raids, new patch content) then take a break. Then consider whether u wanna continue or take a break for a month or 2. That way you avoid burnout and come back with a feeling of playing the game with a more refreshing mind set.

Most of all.. Health always always comes first. So always look after yourselves. The game will wait for you.

  15. I normally sub for patches and let my sub lapse in the second month between patches, though I try and orchestrate my sub periods to hit all seasonal events. I have no shortage of other games to play between patches.

  16. This was my first raid tier ever since I only finished EW in 6.2, but yeah it's actually the first time I ever felt burn out in this game. I think I just realised raiding is not my kind of thing and recently returned to doing casual content, and I'm having fun with the game again! I think I'll probably ever do raiding with friends casually.
