Being A "Good" Player Isn't Only Having Good DPS – FFXIV With Haru

Being a “good” Final Fantasy XIV player is more than just doing good DPS. When you’re optimizing and growing as a player, make sure not to lose your way.

  1. I think people need to be a little more open minded when it comes to judging others based on their FFlogs %. some people simply choose not to greed certain mechanics because they know they are doing enough DPS already & they'd rather just safely clear the content, that doesn't make them a bad player, especially in PF.

  2. To be honest i want to be a good player and be part of end game content, idc about dps at all i just want the experience, it looks like a lot of fun. But i never get the chance to :/

  3. I've always said that between optimizing job mechanics and fight mechanics, fight mechanics always come first. Learn the AoE timing and such before you try to get that extra GCD in before running out of an AoE.

  4. Optimizing isn't about constantly uptime, it seems. From playing the game, it's about staying alive, not getting hit, and keeping others alive. The DPS seems almost like the least important part of the fight because after all, you can't parse if you're constantly dead.

  5. A) If you have very low DPS, then you're not pulling your weight for the team,
    B) If you constantly die to mechanics even with higher DPS, you're still a hindrance to your team,
    C) If you refuse to listen to other people even if you can do mechanics and have high DPS, you're still a dead weight to your team.

What makes a "good" player is someone who strikes a balance between these three: good DPS, good consistency, and a relatively tame ego to not do stupid things.
