In general they’re very nice but they’re also very passive aggressive as soon as you say something about their game/community that isn’t immediately positive. It’s kinda cultish tbh.
Personally, the best community I’ve ever been a part of was early Lineage II days. For an open world PvP game, it was very chill, at least in the servers I played.
edit: instant downvotes, gee I wonder why!
It’s not that they’re passive aggressive or cultish, you just have to understand that as FFXIV players they’ve gotten a lot of flack for very silly reasons. Like when people call it a ‘weeb’ game, make fun of lalafells, or dismiss it as not a serious game.
I’ve never once seen someone who offers valid critics be met with anything but understanding, but I’ve seen countless WoW players shit on XIV for the most ridiculous things and clearly in bad faith.
No one is going to be okay with that, least of all towards something they love.
He started complaining, aka crying, about how Streamers have it bad in Multiplayer games because they get stream haters who make stuff worse for them.
Then he gave Classic WoW as an example.
Conveniently not mentioning the Legion of rabid fans who just bought out and farmed the mats for Sulfuras so he barely had to put effort into it. This is coming from the guy who got given the Tusks of Mannoroth, the guy who got given the Auction House mount, the guy who gets handed everything handed to him on a silver platter.
Oh but I should feel sorry for him because he has a handful of people who might make his journey slightly more difficult.
Give me a fucking break man. I’ve seen people get corpse camped for hours just because they unluckily drew the ire of some obsessed PVPer and Blizzard wouldn’t do anything about it, until well after the fact. If someone like that even remotely happened to Asmon, the guy would be banned before he could /spit.
The other day he started saying, on his other channel, that Streamers should be priority access to naming their characters on New World, no real reason given. Jus that they’re streamers so they need more free shit. The guy is so full of himself but I have to listen to people coping because he can collate and give his, flawed, views in a concise way. “No, no, he’s smart and down to Earth”.
I made the jump to ff14 after 9.1 made torghast even more shit.
I’m not a streamer or internet celeb and my time playing has shown me that the wow community was a lot shittier than I realized, and I was mainly a pserver players so I know how shit it can get.
I’ve literally had 0 bad encounters after a month of playtime. Even had people be so nice to me I thought they were fucking with me, but no they were just nice.
You’ll catch a ban for being that outright toxic in FFXIV if they report you for it. I have a friend who has caught multiple 3-day bans just for saying someone is trash at the game. No expletives or slurs, just being mean was enough. That’s part of why more people are passive-aggressive instead of outright overtly toxic.
I find the game is more enjoyable if you’re patient with people anyway, and if you’re so heated that you feel the need to shit on someone, just leave the group or politely remove them, blacklist them, and move on. It’s something I’ve had to learn myself as an elitist asshole, but it really is better for your own mental as well to just let it go.FF community tends to be more on the defensive side when it comes to criticism but honestly, they don’t care as long as you keep it genuine and honest. Usually too many people who end up not liking the game talk about their opinions as if it was the objective truth. I like to imagine this situation like how wow community shits on people for saying anything positive about the game.
Not sure about that, FF community has been really nice a lot imo, nicer than the WoW community, in the WoW community if you wipe once everyone leaves and then they tell you how shit you are
People act elitist in WoW because they think they are Gods at the game but they are shit, and even good players shit on you for doing something bad instead of at least helping you out
There is a lot of truth coming from Esfand when comparing both communities and he is pretty spot on about it
