  1. The mod community is acting like this happened all of the sudden. Yoshida did an in depth interview on add ons for the first time in 2014, and just did one last year. This isn't new and the rules haven't changed. The difference is as the community grew the mods became more cheaty and more publicly discussed, which is the thing Yoshida explicitly told us not to do. Yet the modders villainize him by taking his words out of context. I'm not against mods that don't directly affect combat/gameplay, but the nodding side of the community have been very disingenuous with the way they discuss the topic.

  2. Ff14 players are a very special kind of stupid. They are one of the most toxic snowflakes i have ever met in any other mmorpg. This whole getting offended by being banned for using mods which btw was already mentioned since time immemorial that you could get banned for using it is just one example.

This guy thinks that banning people using mods is unfair, after sqex put up a post warning players that they can get banned and people being banned after they put up a warning is unfair lol. A special kind of stupid.
This guy is just like russia bombing ukraine, ukraine says we gonna fight back, russia asks why are they fighting back?

  3. Isn't this kind of like law IRL? As far as I'm aware, no justice system gives anyone leeway for not knowing the law even if it's not strictly enforced everywhere all the time. Speed limit is a good example, at least in the U.S. – most people can easily get away going 5mph over the limit basically everywhere most of the time…but if people then start pushing it more and more and start causing wrecks so the police start cracking down on the law itself, enforcing the strict speed limit in a certain area, even 1mph over. They'll usually release a statement but the responsibility falls to people to pay attention to that stuff and they're already technically breaking the law and ignorance is not a defense so…………yeah seems pretty similar to people breaking ToS. While I would expect Squenix to be a bit more generous with their rollout, I find absolutely zero problem with how they're doing this.

  4. Honestly, Yoshi P's spoken about this MANY times, his stance has always been:

"Yo, it's against ToS, if you get caught, I can't really help but reinforce the rules. But, we're also not going to specifically going to look for you or detect you. So, use it if you wish, but don't let me find you."

I also think that people need to remember that we are NOT dealing with western publishers that we are used to. Square Enix is a Japanese company and their philosophy on things may be different due to gaming culture ,and etc. Take a Japanese player for example, the reason, the way, the tradition and custom on how to play the game is wildy different from a western player.

That said, I also believe that one of the biggest reasons why Yoshi P is doing a genuine crackdown on mods is that:

    1. A lot of people are watching streamers, this is literally against Yoshi P's stance of "Don't let me catch you". He has stated this many many many times and he has to abide by his own rules, or anarchy will ensue.

    2. The new PvP system, Crystalline Conflict, has shown A LOT of mods/straight up hacks that has been affecting a lot of people's experience.

    3. FFXIV, unlike WoW, is a Cross-platform game. While yes, the mods are just tools that the game should have it. It is still unfair for PC gamers to have access to these while console players don't.

  5. I honestly don't understand why anyone is mad about this. They always had these rules. These people knew it too.

Just go back to using addons and not showing or telling anyone about it. Just like before.

  6. I don't develop games but I'm relatively certain Squenix won't really be able to determine the difference in these things because they don't gather information from your computer, they've said that and I don't think we want that to change. The FFXIV team has been super forward and honest with us, I really do think they waited as long as they could to pull out the ban hammer (PvP is a line) and they knew there would be a new set of assholes taking advantage of and berating them for this.

  7. They are just now more enforcing something that already exists for 10years … no problem with that. I was quite shocked ff14 doesnt have addons when I switched from wow but now after few years of playing ff14 I prefer that way any day over having addons and fights designed around addons. Fuck addons

  8. I honestly think they put off the whole plug in thing for so long because they didn't want to drop the ban hammer but the plugins started to get out of hand. It's not because the UI or RP ones I think the bad apple ones really started to swarm the game so someone had to put their foot down. Now the instant bans that happened right off that bat, I think that was totally not called for, they certainly could have handled it better than they did.

  9. It's a discussion with pros and cons for sure, however I would like to add that in multiplayer games, mods are absolutely not commonplace to be allowed so things like Skyrim comparisons is just different in my opinion. I love mods in Skyrim, but I don't love mods when I'm playing a Moba (if i did, i would get banned, besides) or something, it skews the playing field when you 'compete'. An MMO is somewhere in the middle of that for me, where some things are fine, other things devalue the game, especially once the developers has to design around it. I don't really think players are objective enough to decide this many times, as many are so goal-driven and long-term do not see the impact something might have on the health of the game, if it means helping achieve something right now.

I find the fact that this has become such a talking point now is interesting. Instead of being cynical about that though, I would instead say that the devs absolutely should see if there are UI improvements to be made that doesn't completely take over gameplay.

  10. This is really a tough issue. On one hand rules are rules. You agree to them in order to play, so any and all addons should be banned. However , it's obviously not that easy to say when it comes to disabilities and giving them access to the game they otherwise wouldn't have. Imo, it should only be in those cases they are allowed and SE should discuss eith the community what quality of life things they should prioritize with the UI and work on making it more accessible within the bounds of SE's vision for the game. That way we dont need add ons for UI and stuff and anything else that gives an advantage is obviously cheating.

  11. I think this is just merely a reminder for all players and specifically a warning for all the pvp cheaters (they are the reason why SE had to go over this term of service again) so I'm sure that we're safe to use add-on as long as we keep it to ourselves and don't affect / harrass other players . However I personally hope that the dev has plans for UI upgrade so we don't have to use those anymore.

  12. I dont think you enable but i do think your effort to stay as middle of the road as possible and not take a hard stance gives some people the wrong impression, it really shouldnt tho

  14. I will continue to use plugins and mods in my game. People constantly warn me about it any such, but I just don't care. If I am unlucky enough to get banned for it, then have it be that way. I will simply stop playing MMOs in general and focus on other games.
