Anatman & Six Sided Star Ruins Monk Rotation | FFXIV Endwalker



People ask the purpose of six-sided star and anatman when it comes to your monk rotation in FF14. There isn’t one LOL but it can actually hurt you using these to optimize. Let me explain why these two abilities need to be reworked.

Regarding SSS – this skill exists to fill niches that have always existed in other forms for monk in past expansions. 1st as an execution tool (old mercy stroke and old tornado kick) and 2nd as a lengthy disengage (old tornado kick when it consumed stacks at times where you’d otherwise lose all Greased Lightning stacks in the early days). So long as you satisfy using it when you wouldn’t hit anything for 2 or more GCDs, it always has a place. The only thing I’d want for it is to give 1 meditation stack to counterbalance being locked out of meditation during the recast.

    Regarding Anatman – the skill is not even good at doing what it wants to do right now since you want to go through a transition with a formless fist and full chakra. Having to prep those and ensure you have full disciplined fist time reserved for re-engage half the time doesn’t work out well. I’m of the mind that if nothing else this skill should also charge chakra and hold leaden fist and PB / blitz remaining timer durations to at least feel like it fulfills its current niche adequately.

  2. I think it would be better to just take the damage away from SSS make it an OGCD and change it so it's a backdash like Samurai has. Because like you saiid, I could just pop sprint run backwards and then dash in and be better off. I'm praying one of the 6.x patches they decide to do something with these skills or for 7.0 just anything is better honestly xD

  3. Just make SSS an ogcd or a really cool looking back flip, OR BOTH! And make Anatman an emote or make it an ogcd attack. Form shift and meditation make the latter abilities irrelevant in most content unless you are min maxing at the highest level and even still its hard to justify. You just have better things to do during downtime to me anyway lol.

  4. A little while ago I had the idea for Anatman that would make it, when used only outside combat, give you a Lunar Nadi, so that your opener could contain Phantom Rush.

    I don't know if I still want it or not, double solar is fun, and it makes me feel big brain for holding my burst for big windows, but if they ever want to make Phantom part of our big opener window, they could do it while also making anatman do literally anything lmao.
