An Unexpected Turn In The Final Fantasy 14 Story

Final Fantasy 14 is known for its ups and downs but this latest journey is not one that I expected.. Quite literally it came out of left field even as I am picking up the pieces from our Waking Sands incident. Wait there are dragons?

  1. I love these videos, they fill me up with so much nostalgia, i had the exact same reactions as you to most of these things my first time (including killing that mob without the item while thinking he just had an amazing defense and i was just a tank with low attack).

  2. What I love about the Ishgard section of base ARR is that it's basically the first taste of what FFXIV does well. You come in with a reputation, but no standing, you don't need to prove your martial strength, you need to demonstrate your intentions. I personally see Ishgard as the warrior of light's first real friends, since you owe each other debts, and you took turns going out on a limb for each other. At first it was the assistant at the observatory showing an alternate path, then the guard captain reluctantly coming around to introduce you. Finally you get Francel and Haurchephant, who take one solid look at you and realize "Oh shit you're not supposed to be here, let's get this all sorted" and in doing so you save them.

You can say "Well they should have just let us have the ship" but let's not forget this is contested territory in a war zone.

It's also nice that it comes at a time where there is no back up. Yes you're not here alone, but it's not the weight of the Scions saving the day, it is the warrior of light.

  3. Yeah… most Ishgardians are jerks. Thankfully, you met the two biggest exceptions as both Haurcefaunt and Francell are total bros (as are their families, believe it or not)

  4. 1:39 Ah yes, the first Thal's Balls (among other similar lines) in the game. Thal's Balls is actually a swear (like the F bomb) phase in the world of Eorzea. I love when MMOs or games in general add canon swear words or phases that isn't from our own or has different meanings in our world. Really adds to rp and making the world feel lived in

  5. My best friend is a bartender and that actually makes them a very reasonable person when it comes to alcohol because they've seen what alcohol can do if not drunk safely/reasonably

  6. The witch drop methodic, as cruel as it sounds, is actually very close to how accused witches got trialed in the real world dark ages. They got drowned in a cage for instance, if they swam away and survived they are witches, if they drowned they were innocent. So historically accurate kinda….sadly

  7. fun fact: the localization head at the time, koji fox, was also on the lore team. he convinced the devs to split the guardian deity of ul'dah into two and make them twins (nald and thal) instead of just one (nald'thal), JUST so he can make the Thal's balls joke. and in one of the beta runs of the game, side NPC dialogues were all Thal's balls.

  8. Of course they have hair gel in Eorzea. How else do you think Alphinaud gets his hair to stick up like that? 😛

Watching you relentlessly dump on him before he gets better has bee quite entertaining. It almost makes me his when he was a stuck-up, better-than-everyone-around-me little shit. Almost.

  9. Back in the day, before flight was added in these early zones, and you were running around on the ground doing the end game content, it wasn't uncommon to see half a dozen max level players fall into Bitch Drop and die while running between events.

  10. If you'd played FF12, you might have gotten the Cid reference from "Marquis". If you'd played 1.0, you recognized him immediately and said to yourself, "Hello again my old friend." This was one of those moments in the community that made the spoiler culture what it is. If you knew, you got to smirk as your friends figured it out.

  11. You dont really need to do side quests they dont really give much unless they have a plus sign on them that mean it unlocks something or has some better story behind it

  12. I really hope you like it enough to play through to endwalker. But also a lot of people skip the side stuff and it's a crime cos there's some really really good ones. That said I barely remember any of the non blue marked side quests from arr, except for one lady in uldah who has like a level 5 quest, and I only remember her because her dialogue never changes after you complete her quest and it only becomes more and more funny with time.
