1. Tea
2. DSR
3. Top progging now
4. Ucob
5. Uwu
I actually really like how much I have to have my brain in for top so far. It is definitely the most flexing I’ve ever had to do but it definitely keeps me on my toes. I don’t like 4hr raid nights though. I did tea first.
huh, it's nice to hear very different perspectives on these fights, my own opinions are a little different because of just how i feel about certain fights:
5. TOP
i haven't cleared it yet so this doesn't count but i already don't like Phase 1 at all and it's gonna make the rest of prog infuriating i can already tell
4. UCOB
I really didn't like this fight at all when I did it. The fight difficulty for me felt extremely disjointed. Twintania I'd basically fall asleep until i got Twistered. Nael felt like a massive jump in difficulty which felt extremely off, but the phase itself was fun. Bahamut is my biggest pain point. Trio style mechs are always easier than full uptime mechanics imo and Bahamut was full of them, more so than any other Ult, and it just made it feel a lot slower than it actually was. And Heavensfall in particular was one of the least fun mechs to prog ever*. Adds I do agree was the best phase of the fight, though. Even now when we nuke them to the ground it's still a very satisfying phase to do correctly, so it gets points for that. And then Golden feels kinda lame in comparison to something like Primal Roulette or Trines. Sure it's a *massive mit check, but mechanically it's just kinda eh since the only actual mech is Exaflares. Overall, what I enjoy from a fight is very drastically different from some people and UCOB just does not do it for me.
3. UWU
Really the big thing that puts this fight over UCOB for me is that Ultima phase is a lot more involved overall, since there's only two Trio style mechanics. Ultimate Annihilation alone gives this fight a lot of props from me. The early phases are pretty much Savage Plus and I kinda like each of the phases to some extent except for maybe Ifrit, since overall he actually doesn't do all that much. Garuda is fine, Titan can be frustrating because of Gaols but otherwise fine. Ultima is where most of the enjoyment comes from, especially since Predation and Suppression are very short, and Suppression especially has enough going on to not be boring, while Predation happens in a flash. This fight in particular I wanna see scaled up to current level because I'm curious how different this one would feel if we actually had to do a lot of the mechs between Annihilation and Suppression that just get skipped.
2. DSR
This was a very, very hard choice between this and TEA, but overall TEA kinda gets the edge because of a few pain points DSR has that sour the experience of what I think is otherwise a masterfully executed fight. Really those two main points are Adelphel/Grinnaux being a phase in general, and the first "real" phase of the fight (Thordan) being a Trio style phase. Typically those are saved for the last or second to last phases of fights and putting them pretty much at the beginning is not fun. It makes Thordan 1 a much more infuriating phase than it really is. Nidhogg is a perfect phase, IMO the best phase of any Ultimate so far with how tight it is on execution while happening so fast. Eyes and Rewind I don't mind as much because it's not super stressful to me after having done it a bunch, but passing tethers in Eyes can get finicky sometimes and that always sucks. Thordan 2 I don't mind nearly as much as Thordan 1 though Twisters can go die. Double Dragons is a close second to Nidhogg for one of my favorite phases, because listening to a fairly calm song like Dragonsong while doing all sorts of nonsense (made worse since I tanked this fight) gives it a level of stress I never felt with any of the previous Ultimates. Speaking of stress, Dragon-King Thordan. Jesus. Tanking that phase is just stress. Having party mit and self mit completely on point while making sure boss positioning is correct while also not dying to Exaflares just gets my heart racing more so than any other fight in this game. Its a fight that I love going back to, but getting through the door and having to do Thordan 1 again pulls it back from being a perfect fight for me.
1. TEA
I wholeheartedly agree with TEA being #1 but for slightly different reasons. How people typically feel about going back and doing UCOB despite having all their weapons? That was me with TEA. For a good while I was a PF warrior looking for PA to clear parties to join and help people clear. I don't really have too much of a complaint with this fight at all. I guess the closest I got is that progging LL to LC was an absolute mess, because of Dolls and LL being very demanding in general for a first phase, but not too bad. BJCC is an extremely fun phase to do right, and an extremely funny phase to get wrong. Alex Prime's Trios don't bother me nearly as much as Bahamut's or Thordan's because they're still very involved, having you needing to know any possible number of things, but those things not being so numerous that it hurts, while also still being demanding enough to be challenging. Wormhole especially was like that. They just found a perfect sweetspot that don't make them feel insignificant, while also not being frustrating. And then Perfect Alex, while being pretty easy, is still one of the coolest phases in any Ultimate. The concept is awesome, the execution of said concept was on point, the music accompanies the entire experience *perfectly*, it just made for a super satisfying end to a fight regardless of it being easier than the rest of it. The music was very strong for all the other Ultimates, but TEA especially has this energy to it that just gets me pumped to do it, especially during Alex Prime and the transition going into Perfect. It never gets old.
TOP was the only ult I skipped out on but the rest I worked on from release across all except caster role. TEA was the most fun and prog was well-paced for me. Fate Calibrations remain my most favorite mechanic in the game. UWU week 1 prog versus today is so different I feel so unmotivated to revisit the fight for how badly it’s aged. UCoB and DRU both were grueling but satisfying fights to complete first time around. Very exhausting to Reclear for their respective times.
I still feel a couple trio phases in UCoB could’ve been condensed to shave some time, and that Nidhogg plus eyes could’ve been condensed into one fluid phase a la Nidhogg EX redux.
1. DSR
2. TEA
3. TOP
4. UCoB
5. UWU
All of your negatives about DSR and TOP are positives to me. You shouldn't be able to relax in an ultimate.
DSR is still the only ultimate I haven't finished. It's just so brutally exhausting and it taxed the hell out of my mental health during prog. My group decided to take a break from it, and come back to it eventually. Finished TOP pretty quickly though, ironically enough.
1) TEA
2) DSR
3) TOP
4) UWU
5) not doing ultimates at all
6) UCOB
Level 70 ultimates are boring af to do on dps because you have no rotation, and I really resent the overall attitude of people who do COB where they don't seem to take doing mechanics well or consistently seriously and just laugh off dying to twisters or Nael quotes for hours. Every trio that's in COB was done better in DSR. TEA, TOP and DSR demand technical proficiency and concentration from everyone to get thru so I would much rather go back and do them (and actually have fun pressing my buttons and trying to figure out how to optimize things) than go do an ultimate where half the party can die and we're still progging the phase b/c it's technically recoverable.
1. DSR, always engaging, fairly difficult
2. TEA, easiest ult imo, best theme
3. TOP, hardest ult, imo, intense from p5 to finish
4. UWU, great spectacle, p4 still needs good coordination to the end
5. UCOB, most annoying mechs, still love the fight (make quotes voice acted kthxbye)
That comment on Garuda being awoken so late it barely matters hits even harder now…literally. I've had parties where we've had to hold DPS and she was awoken at <1% HP.
oh god the tiny Asylum
Did TEA as my first ultimate back in ShB and it'll be difficult for any of the other ults to take it's place as my favorite. Not the hardest ult, but thematically cool and the soundtrack…when I realized the bass drop during BJ/CC was timed to when Double Rocket Punch went out…*chef's kiss*
Not to mention the transition to the final phase; they've tried to match that with DSR and TOP, but when you've grown up with things like Transformers and Voltron…nothing will ever beat that transition.
I've all 17 weapons from it but if I had a group of my friends who wanted to run it, I'd probably dust off my alt and get a clear for it in there, but right now the priority is completing the 3 I haven't finished (UCoB, DSR, TOP) then maybe that becomes a thing
When do you think you’ll do the Eden savage ranking?
Been playing for 10 years and I'm still too scared to even do Extremes, let alone an Ultimate 🥹
Here's how much I enjoyed watching these fights on stream/video (because I'll never do them myself lol)
1) DSR
2) UCOB
3) TEA
4) TOP
5) UWU
agree, TOP is very focus heavy.., almost too heavy (some more breathers in between would have been needed)
Perfect Alexander hits different.
Boss Model 10/10
Music 10/10
Mechanics 10/10
Finale 10/10
Post Clear Satisfaction – Glorious
think TEA doll skip is already a reality
It's funny how garbage and alien Happy's opinions are about… well… almost everything. The best Ultimate, objectivelly the most well made and thought out ultimate, being one of the worst…. same with FF9 being one of the worst for him too. Dude is funny, love his news content and he can't see his cringe even if it hits him in the face, but damn, opinions wise is almost like seeing a lunatic talk.
Progging Twin and Nael in UCOB made me kind of sad as a tank. They have genuine room for tank skill expression on boss movement & positioning in a way that modern fights really just don't. The closest we get is the very minor stuff in, like, P3S or P11S. Please Yoship, give us back small boss hitboxes, I'm begging you
I'm glad I did UCOB about a year after it released and then TEA on release. Some really really just fun fights to do and morale was hardly an issue except on UCOB though it wasnt as much as the fight as everyone just burned out so we cut back on some hours and got the dub. Fate Calibration a and b were some really satisfying mechanics to pull off and the enrage is the coolest of the bunch imo. Havent done DSR or TOP and probably wont but the thematics and almost orchestra like presentation are some of the best in the game especially the music in Alexander and just the fight in general. Always gets me pumped
I love DSR but I wish double dragons was just Nidhogg's final form instead (+ "Revenge of the Horde" was sorely missed). With the last HW unreal being given to Thordan it really feels like they left my boy in the gutter, when he is the last true enemy of the Dragonsong war.
I've only done uwu and tea (did uwu as my first ultimate seeking out a group fro it, the static I joined for abyssos was a short bit into bjcc before shifting back to savage so I joined them for the rest of their TEA prog as I'd vaguely dabbled in it before with a static that very quickly fell apart to external reasons). UWU I think is great, ultima is really satisfying as a phase and until top, was the most time you spend fighting one thing in an ultimate so ultima feels a bit more of a boss, idk if thats a good way to convey an aspect I like about the fight. While its a bit simpler than the others, it does a VERY good job even right out the gate with garuda showing that ultimates play at a much faster pace than savage and you need to never rest on your laurels outside dedicated breather moments in some phase transitions. TEA however, is my favourite fight in the game, so well varied, so well paced, bjcc flows so smoothly and theres always something happening, alex prime's focus on a couple big flashy mechanics help build the fight well up towards reaching perfect and seeing the coolest mechanic conceptually in the game with perfect alex and fate cal, god its such a good fight I love it so much. While ucob doesnt really interest me, I have some friends who've done it speak negatively of it and the themeing doesnt appeal to me, I do wanna try the 90 ultimates at some point, but wouldnt be opposed to ucob or helping someone learn the ones I've done, if I was asked to join a group.
Only done 3. Of the three I have done:
1. UCoB is top due to mechanics and general feeling during the fight. Answers is a very anxious song. UCoB feels like it is there to pu ish you and that it seriously dislikes you.
2. TEA: This fight is so joyful. So upbeat that you dont come away from this fight with bad vibes. Unlike UCoB, each phase's music is more positive and gives you energy to even do the fight. This Ultimate, instead of save the world, feels like: come play with some Robots. Its the equivalent of playing with Titania.
3. UwU is ok. It's a great starter ultimate and introduces you to new ideas. I enjoyed farming it but I do not want to return. Did it as a healer cuz im lazy and didnt wanna learn dps moves which are not fun.
All three of these have beautiful weapons.
I haven't done DSR or TOP.
TOP frightens me. I feel like I will not enjoy progging it and that my time can easily be wasted doing it. It also doesn't help that Omega was one of the weakest raid and story concepts introduced into Stormblood. Very boring with little story and exhausting to see more Robots. if I clear it, I plan to clear it twice and stop.
DSR I am eager to do. When I have more freetime I will try and work on it. I want to experience this unique story experience at least 3 times. For this one I will be pacing myself. Looking forward to DSR a ton.
It's a crying shame that both sets of weapons are impossibly hideous. The Omega weapons at least have that crazy effect on top of the ugly models. So the Omega ones look like true trophies.
The DSR ones are horrible. Absolutely awful. Terrible color, questionable models, vomit glow. just bad. So the EW ultis are only worth doing for the experience and not the weapons like the previous three.
Man teas just so much fun. Genuine a fun time all the way and the music slaps and gives that good nostalgia feel.
Am I the only who thinks TEA is extremly boring because of how scripted it is? DSR and TOP have trained my brain to constantly be ready to adjust for RNG. In TEA every single clear feels the same. Also DSR and TOP are much more difficult even considering old dps checks. TEA UCOB and UWU feel like a savage fight thats longer. Honestly Id even say P12S is harder than those.
As someone who has only ever done any UCOB (almost cleared though. Progging adds) this was a really really interesting and relevant listen. I had no idea how the community felt about UCOB so now I feel less bad when I ask friends to sub lol.
the only point i would disagree with you on is to save TOP/DSR until after someone new has cleared the others, as killing an ultimate in the expansion it was released in feels 10x better given how gear and level scaling works for the older ultis, assuming that SE doesn't randomly decide to unreal them in dawntrail
ngl, 'DeathCOB' might be the funniest thing I've ever heard about Ultimates
How bout a video on navigating ultimate raider egos when first cracking into it…almost harder than the actual fights. Been raiding with actual babies that all forgot where they came from
5:50 was very thoughtful and a lot of the not-ready-to-do-every-ultimate players thank you
I've only progged up to P2 of TEA and P3 Enrage of DSR, but I can say for certain that DSR is the ultimate I want to finish first.
I personally love Ucob a lot. And whenever I do have the joy of helping friends understand certain parts of it. I usually always wind to the same tiny bit of explanation.. "It's a lot of simple mechanics, happening at the same time" And so far, that's helped people get a better understanding of how to tackle the fight on a 'mental prog' kinda level
DSR for me is where ultimates peaked and most likely will peak for a long while in my opinion
As grueling as it was to prog and clear i loved the mechanics, the flow of the fight and the way they used heavensward's story to create the second timeline. That was the coolest thing any fight in the game has ever done.DSR will probably remain my favorite fight in the game for a long time
DSR was a lot of fun for the audience watching the WF race.
Progging DSR was like a discovery: every new phase was an exploration, you digging into a story piece by piece. DSR was also a new breakpoint of difficulty, we weren't confronted with such hard encounter since uh, E8S?
Progging TOP was like a grind: "die and repeat, learn the patterns and permutations, execute, keep focused". It was a brief and faster experience for my group in comparison to DSR but we got a bad taste in our mouth after it was done…
doll skip adoption would be my line in sand, something-has-to-change moment
arguably ifrit dash skip is just as heartbreaking but given uwu is a design mess overall it doesn't hurt
doll skip is fun (do try it!) but the moment it becomes PF standard something has broken in this game
Downvote because of raid. Sorry!
DSR was my first ultimate which was mostly ruined by the static i was in (different goals and mindsets making conflicting things happen a lot)
DSR is probably my #1 currently, cleared UwU after and now progging TEA, after that re-prog DSR as a tank or UCOB depending what the ultimate static wants.
TEA is currently my #2 since it's just fun, although phase 1 can drag on a bit, but it's not that long, so it's whatever, currently on Nisi pass 3.
from just looking i think UCOB will be my #3, looks fun except fuck nael quotes to see what the mechanic is, that doesn't sound fun to me.
UwU will be #4, but boy does that fight feel like an extreme fight till you finally reach Ultima, not even a savage fight, just extreme, not many variation, mostly static movement etc, just basically an Extreme, then Ultimate ups it to an actual ultimate (or atleast slightly above savage)
and #5 will be ToP from the looks of it, i was hyped that we would be seeing Kefka and Exdeath, instead we just go to o11s, to o12sp1, to o12sp2, to o12sp2p2 into golden omega (?) then finally an actual new fight, but that's likely because Stormblood raids were my favorite as i started there.
the mechanics doesn't look that great to me and with all the bugs early on (which hopefully they fixed all of them, especially the whole tank dying because he still got a debuff from the previous mechanic, easily solved, just annoying)
spent some time in all of them save DSR so far (have it unlocked, was too chicken to try it when fresh) and cob and tea are so quality i love them
Tea is the best because no one likes untargettable mechs, and almost all of tea's most fun mechanics are uptime mechanics. Dragonsong can go straight to hell.
Sorry happy. Cant stand raid: shadow ledgers as a game, but Ill happily support the video with a comment and like! So here ya go mate
"drag on, heh heh heh"
Oh, yea. I did all ultimates. My favourite was Ultimate Tidus, definitely.
xD
Well, l think l will stick with pvp because l don't want to commit to a group on a fixed schedule. Feels like a job
My ranking:
DSR
TEA
TOP
UCOB
UWU
I have never done an ultimate so I ranked the alphabetically
I do agree with I wish they'd upscale some of the old ultimates to make them feel harder and just more enjoyable to play. level 70 really hurts some classes enjoyment to play. All classes clearable obviously but doesn't mean some classes feel like shit to play xD
I havent even unlocked any of them xD
But I really would like to get into Extremes, Savages and Ultimates…
