After a year in FFXIV, these are 5 things I miss from WoW

I am happy in FF14, but sometimes I wish they would borrow a few things from WoW.

  1. I can understand going from the perspective of having access to transmog on the go but your average wow player didn't have that at least when I played they didn't it was a super expensive grindy thing to get it was awesome when you found somebody who had it but most players when I was playing did not have access to that mount but I'm not saying that you're wrong for having that on your list it's just it wasn't a common thing when I played and anytime I get a new item that I can use it's usually from a contact that's in a sanctuary the only time that I get new gear that I can't Glam as if I'm in a alliance raid and no one has access to mounts in those. I totally agree with your achievement progress tracker you end up having to go to a third party website to see how much you have of the whole things and I think it would be nice to have a plate like you said showing everything up front.

  2. I do agree with your points but I think most of your points are technical limitations of the crappy game engine in FFXIV. I'm sure they would instantly give us a WoW/GW2 transmog/wardrobe system if they could

  3. Hi! WoW has been my main game for several years now, but I've swapped to FF during the big content lull. The thing I miss the most in FF is the seasonal events. I know FF has them, but they seem much more lackluster than wow's seasonal events. I also really miss my transmog closet and mount. I think once I start grinding thru old content, I will miss achievements and the achievement log more than I do now.

The biggest disagreement I have is flying thru the large zones. I hate it in wow. Just absolutely hate it. If I fly somewhere far away (Blackrock Lair to Undercity for example) I always seem to end up flying into the dead zone and dying of fatigue or worse just being perma-locked in infinite space. Whenever I go back and play wow I really miss the teleport system. ESPECIALLY the aetherite crystals in the towns.

Fantastic content, I really enjoyed the side by side comparisons that you did to show FF players that have never seen wow's ui the differences.

  4. Flavor creatures. Even before we had pet battles, there were rats in Stormwind, prarie dogs in the Barrens, and tigers protecting their cubs. those small animals did a lot to flesh out the environment of a zone and I wish FF had them as well. Minions are fun, and I don't need a pet battle system, but I want to see frogs at lakeside, crabs in the sand on the sea shore, or squirrels running through the streets of Gridania.

  5. Sad to say that most Weill remain unchanged so long as the game is tied to the consoles. Loading and memory limitations being a thing they always have to keep in mind. Maybe when we hit the PS5 console!

  6. I miss the holidays. The Brewfest. Hallow's End, Pilgrims's Bounty, Winter Veil, …even children's week– the holidays that align with our holidays. FF14 has holidays, but it is less interactive and sporadic. We had a in game calendar so we knew when and where our yearly events would happen. I wish FF14 would borrow more of the holiday events from wow, even if they were just Japanese events.

  7. I agree with every point you make in this video as someone who plays both games and has finish both games I completely agree with you. The transmog system from wow is the thing I want most added to FF14 I would also says the part of the collection tab that tells you what mounts, pets and transmog you are missing should also be added to ff14 because I want to know what I am missing without having to consult google .

  8. The thing about the glam system is that the inventory system is unfortunately one of the last remnants of 1.0's spaghetti code. Considering how messed up it is, the fact that they've gotten as much as they have out of it is a feat all in itself.

  9. The FFXIV achievements do show you how many out of how many you've done. You just need to open the accordion tab because it's hidden in overview.

You can also glamour individual items you have in your bag anywhere you want but it costs glamour prisms everytime. This was the old glamour system before glamour dressers were added. The glamour dresser allows you to glamour everything all at once without using glamour prisms.

  10. As a long time WoW player too I'll agree that I miss the trasmogfication the most now that I play FFXIV, 800 slots in the dresser and 20 glam plates help but they don't sate the itch to collect everything available for your job.

  11. Biggest thing I miss the most is the GCD being 2 secs. WoW just feels much responsive in the game than FF XIV does and you can also attack faster and use more spells faster than FF XIV. But ofc the story is just top tier and amazing. And another thing is how open world WoW actually was. There was no loading screens except from travelling to another continent. But FF XIV has a lot and it doesnt feel as open world as WoW does. And I wish they had a full on transmog system like WoW does. FF XIV has glamour but not some kind of actual transmog system for collecting gear. you still need to have the actual gear to even transmog in FF XIV

  12. The reason why FF14 won't eliminate zone transitions, is because it would actually make the world smaller, we only explore small hotspot zones of each region while the "empty" parts are the things eliminated by the load transition, WoW lorewise, a zone would be dozens or houndred of miles wide, but they would be 10 minute run in-game. Even when i still have some nostalgia for the wetlands deathmarch from Darnassus

The reason why the glam dresser work thr way it does is because server bandwidth and database problem, most wow armoir assets are easy to make each player client to load because they sre much simpler (most of them are a simple texture file shared between all races and they don't have to make that texture in a way it can be dyed with like 40 different colors), FF14 kinda preload each player inventory and their plates assets thst id within your sight (glam plates was only implemented after 32 bit and ps3 support was retired), this is why glam dresser is on the Inn room where it is the only place there can only be one player in each instance, it is part of a problem they had to deal with and have to work around, because FF14 had to carry over player database from 1.0 to 2.0 and up, and that was a different engine and basically different game.
There are others 1.X code carry over problems that have showed once in a while creating problems for players and devs alike (most recent one being the login problems/disconnects on endwalker launch)

  13. 5: I dont really both with achievements unless they give me something I want. Whether I've finished a lot or not, doesnt bother me. I only go for a select few – if any… … 10 wins in Frontlines at the moment 😀
4: Not everyone has that mount, so thats a bit unfair…
3: Fair point. Though from a mechanic (?) point of view, I dont think they can change that. After all, there is no combat underwater, everything is disabled, so though its a bit annoying, I dont think its an easy fix – or even possible with the current engine… In WoW, swimming and diving was possible from the start, in FF14 lakes and rivers are often used to divide a zone – escept from SB onwards.
2: Dont really see your point here, honestly ^^° I mean, its not an "open" open world, the zones are instanced, and no, its not possible to fly over mountains into another zone. So yeah, no, you cant just fly from one end of the continent to another, but lamenting this state is like lamenting about the sun rising in the East instead of the West.
You said, these are things you would like the devs to adopt from WoW. I dont know much about programming, but to implement these changes they would have to create a whole new game from scratch. I mean, yes, we can dream… but personally, I'd rather dream about something more realistic… like grafic updates coming faster 😀
1: I heard this a lot and on one hand, yeah, its easier the way WoW handels it. On the other hand, I often take the pieces I want to store and put an expansive dye on it. While its true that its annoying to have limited space, and discarding stuff to your retainer means pretty much forgetting about it, which is a waste. On the other hand, we have the plate system, which imo is far superior to WoW's.
9:35 — Thats not creepy, thats the name of the game XD We make awesome glams because we want to be seen and admired.
Also, what you propose is something the devs made clear they dont want. Several items are only available in the online shop and Yoshida said on many occasions, he wants the shop far away from the actual game. We have that dreamfitting option, which is the only thing they were willing to do, so I dont think they will allow us to get a peak on the go. Also, this may also be by design, since its a way to get people talking with each other: just ask them were they got a certain item and you might found a friend for life.
TL:DR, no, WoWs transmog system is not better, and I pray to God that they never ever copy it.

What would I like them to do, is adding the dye system from GW2. Not only for armor and clothes, but also hair: in GW2 you are able to dye hairbands and clasps. I have the Lyse hairstyle, and though I really like it, the golden clasp doesnt always go with my glams. – But yeah, this, too, is not possible with the current engine unless they re-build the game from scratch – and they already did that. It is what it is. – What would I want them to change? … I play for over two years now… I played WoW for 13 or 14 years… I played GW2 for about three years… No, I cant think of anything that annoys me so much I want it to change. Maybe map-chat: when I first created my character in FF14, the silence in chat was deafening. But you get used to it – especially knowing that chat happens elsewhere…
