The Seedy Underbelly of Final Fantasy XIV

Lominsan Anchovy is here to teach you about the dangers of the world wide web in a vaguely comedic fashion!

This video took so long to make I had 3 different hardware failures and a third of the script ruined by 7.0 updates.

  1. Is this some kind of british documentary parody? Is hard to follow, you sound like a 40's old pretentious guy judging ppl having fun and trying to monetizing it. The editing is really good.👍 probably you will be viral soon lot ppl like this shit.❤

  2. I cannot believe you have been documenting us this entire time. You have been the one constant since I started playing this game (odin homeworld). I just assumed you were afk lol.

  3. I'm new to FFXIV, come from wow and I didn't really think about using LB on trash I was just informed not to.. I will now be using it on trash now it sounds way more effective when you made me think about it. 😛

  4. As a lalafell RPer, I can safely day that (at least on NA servers), the folks who play lalafell as actual children are few and far between and are actively shunned by the rest of us. Doesn't stop most venues from discriminating against us, though.

  6. About the "Contest" thing: Its a Nightclub, a Venue, its heavily Modded ground so you simply dont see the glam 😛 I mean, you obiously know that, since you are using Plugins yourself 😉
Also let them be… i agree, most venue Stuff ist like 80% Highschool Drama an ERP, but im in this clubs from time to time too. Listening to a DJ, while standing in a night club and talking with your friends in a group can be fun, while youre dancing… and with Mods there so much cool stuff to see… and you dont want to stand in Limsa while doing stuff like that, so why not in a little more private Area… even if the advertising is indeed weird xD

  7. I got a drawing from Popoto Artist. It was nice. I sat in line for two hours without previously knowing how long it would take. Made friends in that line and there was a band playing right beside us, so I had fun at least. The drawing did look at my character, too.
But yeah, the constant shout chat announcements are annoying. No reason to go back and get another drawing, honestly.

  8. 43:00 Literally the easiest way to get called a pedophile in this game is to just play as a lalafell and NOT roleplay as a child. I'm serious. I made the lore for my lalafell that she is a 25 year old woman, and dress her in clothes that I as a 25 year old would wear and SUDDENLY I'm a pedophile! That's all it takes! This game's fanbase gets so many rewards for being the best and kindest and I have had people be nicer to me for existing as a trans person in fucking Overwatch lobbies than playing as a lalafell that I don't see as a diaper shitting toddler! Absolutely insane!

Amazing video well spoken about the current situations and problems of the game that must've been addressed, keep up the good work 🍕

  10. Heya, FF14 virtual DJ here lmao.

Can confirm that the whole scene is fucking insane and it's surreal that it ever spawned in the first place. Lots of fun can be had there but the entire thing is genuinely an insanity trip. Too many DJs and venue owners try to say they're "changing the world for the better" by opening up their virtual club for others (yes, including billboard club and one of those DJs in the video included lmao). and it's a massive cesspool. Some DJs do actually pay for their music, a lot don't, and a lot more take this shit way too seriously.

Besides retaining a handful of friends from the people I've interacted with, I picked up a fun hobby and just enjoy doing my own thing for the hell of it.

You can tl;dr the whole scene as "Something fun that was turned into microniche community clout chasing and $1/hr wages"

  12. I wanted to say that i play this game since heavensward, i was once open , talked to random people on 14 but after i saw what mods this game has i cant see 14 like back then. I hate mods it ruined 14 a lot for me i only play with my friends and if they are offline i only play dungeons with the npcs. I still love this game to death btw i hope square will someday bann mods all togehter. Also fuck the mentor system its cringe af people who are mentors are OFTEN but not always idiots these days. We must protect the beginners.

  13. This is the seedy underbelly, yes, but it's not the grimiest part. The dirtiest part.

Every single action anyone takes in FFXIV is the click of a button. A mouse button, a gamepad button, a keyboard button. This button does something on the screen in front of them. If they press these buttons enough, in a specific order, they get a dopamine hit.

What you encounter in the seedy underbelly is simply this: a bunch of people staring at screens for hours and pressing buttons. For days of their life. Months. Years even. Someone spending years of their life pressing buttons so they can get a dopamine hit from something on a screen. Their real life is a person sitting in front of a screen for 58 hours in one week.

The seedy underbelly is the digital representation of that grimy fact.

  14. This seems like a pretty accurate reproduction of real life night clubs (afking while dancing mindlessly and not talking to people, terrible music, there's a catgirl)

  15. The people spamming are probably not just doing it on one account. They probably just set up 10-20 accounts and just set up a macro/bot to spam messages on all the accounts every so often. 300K an hour x10 accounts is 3M an hour. If automated that would be 72M a day for doing nothing. You said 20c an hour, so that is $2 an hour. $48 dollars a day or $1440 a month. It isn't about doing it on one account, rather setting up an automated system that generates you money for doing nothing. All this assuming they are getting paid for 24 hours and not just during stream hours.

  16. I’ve never played FFXIV, can someone explain what’s bad about tanks not wanting other roles to pull in dungeons?
I’ve played other MMOs, and unless there’s some sort of a prearranged strategy, only the tank pulls. The reason is usually that if the pull goes wrong the party will wipe.
Accidentally pull too many mobs = wipe
Pull the wrong mobs = wipe
Tank not given time to build aggro = wipe
Mobs pulled while healer’s recovering = wipe
I’m used to there being a lot of responsibility with tanking. Not that I tank, I gravitate towards healing.

I want to start playing FFXIV, so if things are different then I’d really appreciate knowing why.

  17. 2:04 — … I live a sheltered live on Shiva XD

As the occasional Nightclub enjoyer… man, am I glad I didnt dig too far into that rabbit hole XD

12:45 — I mean… they are not really afk if there's not the symbol – officially at least ^^° As for the looking… well, they dont have to look at you to look at you: they just have to turn the camera and you wouldnt know 😛

18:27 — Like… you could've teleported? Either to the front of the entrance or to any crystal… Just sayin' 😛 You liked it and laughed your a** off the whole time for how serious they took the situation XD

28:49 — This reminds me of some reactions I get when I "steal" the LB3 in alli raids as ranged dps XD Most of the time, people dont care but sometimes (rarely, mind) someone gets salty XD Love it ^.^

41:55 — The hell did you do with the mouth?? It's f***ing horrifying o.O

Talking about the crusty seedy underbelly of FF14 and then closing on such a wholesome note? I salute thee, sir XD

  19. As someone who's been forcefully shoved by friends into rp'ing as a barman in a venue , it's fucking SAD but the "Free" gill for semi afking at a venue for 3 hours is pretty neat , but the mental damage and cringe one experiences makes it less worth it…. I've seen people who would pay 2mill gill for a "dancer" just to have someone to talk to 💀💀💀 , to people actually making schedules about who attends when and where and people having to write reasons on why they cant attend as staff or what not , actual INSANITY.

Also the glam contest I think it was a Glamourer / Mare glam contests as in people would connect to the club's Mare syncshell and share the modded look and get voted based on that, it would explain the scuffed looks and why the 3rd place crashed , since people cant seem to have a limit when it comes to how many mods they use 💀 (As an idea I my self joined a club's sync shell where 300 people that being the hard cap on a syncshell , had like 500 mb's each, worth of mod files bein transported around which might not seem like a lot but when u take in consideration that most mods are like in the kb's in terms of how "heavy" they are and that mare has a refresh rate of 60 seconds as the highest cap meaning every 60 seconds every single mod file that's being shared in that sync shell is being refreshed to not have people "out of date" and keep the mods going is TAXING on a lot of gpus / cpu's 💀💀💀💀💀.

  20. What is most bizzare to me that I heard a lot about ERP and other "adult content" in FF14 way before I started to play the game. So if you are a newcomer who checking for a new "critically acclaimed MMORPG" to play you almost definetely will be stumbling on this stuff. In fact this was one of the reason that I started to play as Lalafell. Now 400+ hours in and I must say that "potato deterrent" works amazing – not a single creep hits on me, only headpats and lalaparades.
