Did you ask in discord? I would take reddit comment with grain of salt
hh.hh HOW DAAAAARE YOU??!!!! (i'm joking btw)
As a streamer you need to play the story if you want FF players to follow you if you skip anything FF will hate you. You will understand does replies only if you have play the storyđ do what grinding gear did with FF14 do the same
As FF 14 player for 10 year now a GW2 player GW2 is better is everything but the story
Completely understand. The questing is awful in 14. So many fetch quests and talking to people on the other side of the world just to come back and repeat what they said.
I feel the same way. The story is so long and drawn out. I much prefer the instanced content. I just suffered the story by smashing skip every chance I could and speedrunning the story as quick as possible. People hate you for it, but that's them and I do me. The story is boring.
GW2 pvp comment I get almost everyday
"Go kill yourself"
"Uninstall now"
"Atlf4" when someone ask for help in something.
"Report, report , report"
Almost every match.
Now tell me GW2 players are nice lol đ
Alternative title: I asked the FF14 subreddit how to skip the story and THIS happened!
You might get more useful responses in Xenosys' twitch/discord as he is more of a gameplay focused streamer.
Island of zojjaga?
Thank you for reminding me of FF14 and how glad I am I don't play it.
TO BE FAIR GUYS! I did this video cause I want to try the game and I think its a good one! I even think the story is probably pretty good! I dont want people thinking I hate FFXIV or something. ALSO thanks to everyone who actually answered my question and was very nice đ
I asked my friend who's playing FF14 about the story because I heard about their story is good and there is an expension recently release. And you know how they play? they skip all the dialogue in the story to finish it quick and watch it later on youtube. Even some long time player didn't like how they deliver their story. After playing GW2 for a long time I try FF14 once and immediatly quit after I'm out of the starter town (about 2hrs of fetch quest and deliver message) It's sooooooo bad in the early game.
just gonna let you know tho, without the story, ff14 isnt much. The gameplay is barely flexible in end game content and its just everything on a record button tbh
FFXIV be like that and its dumb ass community, I played 3000 hours there and to enjoy the game I had to waste another 200-300 doing story, id just skip the story and slowly learn the game doing daily roulettes and open world while you learn the game, then by the time you max level you good to start learning current harder content
I have played ffxiv since beta, and yes the community can be fanatical and defensive. You have a right to skip to whatever you want since all content is locked behind the story. I also agree that it's scummy for them to sell those skips instead of giving a free skip per expansion. It's like they just think they are so awesome and want everyone to see their greatnes. Though yes the story is what kept me playing for all these years since i always wanted to see what happened next. But i also play many mmos and i understand that being forced to do something is not fun. Like i dispise doing pvp and will fully nope out of a game cause of it.
I think you should have made a better title, so we can know what the video is about, and also so related people can find your video. I initially thought it was about GW2, if the title had FF14 in it, I would have gotten to the video faster out of curiosity.
Good times. Iâve tried to play ff a number of times, ~ 400 hours total, kept coming back to play the story because of the hype, beat the acclaimed story and realized the overall gameplay was the same. Questing, dungeons, story, the open world is sad, the feel of movement is rigid. The music is remarkable and the ff world is of course good and nostalgic for those of us that played ff growing up. That said, if you donât prog ff, Iâd bet everyone would better enjoy gw2. A bit of a generalization but it feels better in nearly every way. Anyways gaming:)
You are very brave. They are watching. Beware !
This is all too common unfortunately. I'm a FFXIV player that recently came to GW2 in the downtime before Dawntrail. You pretty much nailed it with people being defensive of the story, and while I enjoyed it and encourage people that do skip to eventually play through it there's no need to react the way reddit does, but they do.
Your concern about how well you articulated your point is unnecessary, you voiced your point perfectly. Probably the only rational argument that I've heard. Most people just say "the story" is boring, which is strange, because they then say they just mashed skip. Your point about the "gameplay" of running back and forth being boring is TOTALLY understandable.
That being said, my suggestion is to buy the Story Skip, but not a level skip. A major difference between GW2 and FFXIV is the sheer number of abilities in your rotation at endgame, something like 24-30 buttons for most classes. So you'll be able to level through any content you want since it'll all be unlocked because of the story skip, and it'll slowly work you up toward your full compliment of abilities. Just my 2 cents.
If you are still interested in trying and need some info I'd be happy to help where I can.
Apply this logic to your own community. The gw2 community is even more rabid. Ask why the game has nothing going for it, ask why pvp is abandoned, ask why the story is trash, ask why there's no real content worth investing in. You'll get swarmed and attacked in droves.
Every community has their pet peeve. Not judging. Just describing how it is. Skipping the story in 14 is generally frowned upon. (Cardinal sin category)
You, or anyone for that matter, are of course entitled to do whatever you want with your time and money. But know that you'll find "friction" if you advertise you are a "skipper". So word of advice, don't talk about it.
Germans love beer.
Americans love guns.
Argentina loves Messi.
Fortnite is filled with brats.
the FFXIV community doesn't like skippers.
Go to FFXIV online store. There you'll find story skips and job jump potions. You still need to complete the latest expansion, in this case, Endwalker.
From a vet who agrees with "Play how you like" stance I can give a bit of insight on this.
When it comes to those who defend story its mostly because of the love they developed for the characters and of course the story itself. I played the story since ARR and personally i loved it even though yes there used to be a multitude more fetch quests before a lot of them got removed to make the story a bit more seemless, but to me it was just part of the experience.
Theres also the fact that the story introduces mechanics and everything to teach new players about them, so some players out there get upset about story skips for that reason. Especially if you want to do hardcore content and dont know Stack, Tower, Limit Cut, Reverse, etc. They will get mad about that a lot of the time.
On the other side of the scale its more of the passionate players wanting people to experience the story because otherwise new players that skip wont have much reason to stay to play and such. Theres also issue if you skip it only skips the MSQ, so to do majority of any content stuff you have to back track to unlock it in places you dont know. This also leads players who skip to spend a lot of time on Google trying to figure out where something is unlocked, obtained, how to get a certain item, etc. Normal stuff youd come across during MSQ that would help direct you to it. Having to go through all the hoops usually makes people stop playing too.
In the end though its all up to the individual themselves how they want to play, and if one chose to go back and play the story at another time they could. An alt works wonders to relive the story if desired.
get owned ff cultists
This crap is just common just play how you want who cares. Most of the people bitching are the vocal minority that just afk in a main town zone limsa and either bitch on twitter or reddit about how they died to a solo fight dps enrage nobody knew existed, or erp for 4 hours in the same spot spamming emotes making it look like they're doing exactly what you think.
The most they will do is q for a lvl 90 expert dungeon daily in 70 class relic gear and Shire (lvl 60 gear) rings expecting you to do the dungeon for them. The "mentor stat" crown they have is a fucking joke and they will die to a straight line from a trash mob pull. The one guy that doesn't say a word in the group besides hi and tells you what is going on here and there with a boss he'll survive, the uwu speak bunny boy or catgirl with half 80/90 gear saying everything will be fine will die first.
Been playing since hw release and never skipped which was my choice to do. just play how you want and just point and laugh
You have to get both the level boost and the latest msq step, you do not have to buy a skip for each msq step.
if you buy only the msq boost you have to grind levels which isn't that difficult but would be a bit annoying, and if you buy the level boost only you still have to do the story from the point you were at when you used it. and the real kicker in my mind is the new game+ system lets you go back and re play the story if you want to(even if you skipped it)
I agree people are a bit unhinged about must watch the story, but like dawntrail is supposed to be a new start similar to how arr was so like it should be whatever, but like part of the reaosn people are a bit unhinged about people skipping the story is partially because for a very long time there are influencers that skipped the story then complained about how they didn't know what was going on or the story was bad because they couldn;t figure out what was going on with it, and of course trolls. I personally think the stroy is alright especially compaired to other mmo's but it isn't god's gift to mankind like some people act.
If you want a story skip as a new player, you need to msq skip and a level boost for one character. To do that, you need to start a character you want to boost and quaff the boost and the skip. This will catch you up to level 80 which is the beginning of the current content "Endwalker". these will come in the mail services by moogles. You do need to level and play through the Endwalker levelling. It's a good a chance to learn the job(class) you just boosted. Xenosys(infamous ffxiv old timer) finally got around to playing for the story only recently on an alt. Additional jobs(classes) you want to play at high level only can be boosted separately using additional paid services from there on out. A lot of people do go back and play the story and is highly recommended since you'd be feeling lost story-wise all the time. Most people who don't play through the story don't find the game fulfilling and leave after a short time. But 300+ hours of story can be daunting. I hope you find what you are looking for. Just to pitch in, story is better than 99% of the RPG out there. Welcome to FFXIV.
the ff14 community is remarkably aggressive for sure. thin veneer of kindness if you enjoy (or pretend to enjoy) the story, meanies beneath
You've probably already got your answer. But I highly recommend watching Jocats video "So I wanna talk about how it took me 300 hours to enjoy FF14." You can skip to the 4th part of the video if you don't feel like watching through the whole video. Its made by someone who actually who understands how boring initially the game can be for certain players and he highlights three different ways to enjoy the game, the pros and cons of each method and tells you what you should expect.
dont play the game dawg get the fack outta here
if you wanna skip, skip. if you wanna read and watch everything cool. if you ask a question on reddit and got some answers, why care about the people who want you judge you for skipping? lmaoooo no ones opinion matters including mine. who cares what other people think?
I like FFXIV, but the story just drags on and on and on…I wanna get into raids and things, but i need story and side quests and other things to get into them. I get burnt out before I even get that far
Here is short answer: Google "How to skip final fantasy 14 story" 1st link.
Not make reddit thread asking how.
OFC their responses were overboard, but asking questions in the daily/simple question sticky is standard procedure in many subreddits. It's also generally a good idea to check for pins when entering a sub for the first time. Otherwise, if we make an exception here or there, we end up with a flood of questions previously answered that crowds out other content. If you contribute to that, you should be downvoted because your thread shouldn't even exist. But that also doesn't excuse just how defensive they got.
XIV has a similar cultist fanbase similar to GW2 so I get what you mean
Ive found out that casuals are most toxic players in game that trying to gatekeep other people from doing actual fun content.
Like i enter some discords, speak to people, person see some interest in dificult content, i start to explain him where to start, like optimise rotation, track dps etc and some casual comes and like "why u be toxic(by politely teaching new player what stats do and why u need rotation in first place), this game doesnt need rotation go play wow" its really hilarious. Its noobs living in their delusions and scared of challenge, just ignore them.
they play FF like VRchat, i dont mind that, but goddamn could they leave rest of people alone?xd
This ain't it, man.
You broke a fairly generic internet social etiquette, not asking simple questions in the designated area. It DID sound like you did research before asking (which is very commendable), but unfortunately reddit's search feature is only really good for top-level posts which all turn out like yours.
That kind of rule is in place for a reason. If you were to do the same thing on another sub, or heck even another forum altogether, I would expect the same bad faith responses regardless of the topic.
Regarding the boosts, it's all written on the boost page what they do. You don't need to buy each individual story boost, they're offered like that so you can jump in at Expack 1's start, 2's start, etc. They never offer an immediate skip to endgame, only up to the start of whatever the most recent Expansion on offer is.
The job boost is separate because one character can have all jobs unlocked at the same time. It's separate progression from the story campaign which is responsible for unlocking all of the other optional content.
Anyways, my two cents: you can only play the game blind once, and it'd be a damn shame to miss out on the full effect of myriad story instances where the story and mechanics fuse into one cohesive package.
This game is a single player RPG with endgame MMO elements, rather than the normal MMO game with single player elements stitched on.
Skip if you want, just know that you can't get that blind playthrough back once you do.
The FF14 community seems to be becoming stranger by the day. Somehow, they view FF14 as a perfect game where nothing is wrong, and you can't criticize anything. They attack all the creators who say something negative about the game. The game is in the worst state ever after the invasion from the multicolor sex players.
Why would you want to skip the story in a story heavy game đ
I've played before, but have since lost the account, in heavensward. I do not want to play the current stories, and go straight to dawn trail to play with my friends. The story is WAY TO LONG on catching up to current. I DO NOT want to do that again.
I think the dev are looking into the option of having Endwalker a new starting point and let new player skip the whole first ark of the story. Or they might came up with another way. But they're aware of it. And it probably be available earliest in a few months from now as Dawntrail released.
It is unfortunate that you are deciding to play a game that is completely story based & skip the story. However I think it is important to note that you will also be skipping major teaching moments the game gives you. All those low level dungeons/duties/raids also serve the purpose of teaching new players how the game mechanics work & it allows you to get more comfortable with the job system.
Also to be noted that within the XIV community the most successful content creators are those who do story. Goodluck & hope you change your mind for story as youâll be missing out on everything the XIV community loves about the game, which in my opinion, why even play the game if youâre actively choosing to ignore its most fundamental part.
I hope you give XIV a fair try, the hours & hours of questing really does pay off in the end
I agree. It felt like I barely played my chr when leveling in FF. Might be fun for others but certainly was a turn down for me.
Afk in cities relying on the queue system
Outer world empty and dead
PvP? don't get me started
