Let's Play Final Fantasy XIV (Part 60) [Final Fantathon]

The most anticipated and requested game of Final Fantathon, Final Fantasy XIV has finally arrived. Beloved by so many, FFXIV has become a world wide phenomenon and has transcended its own namesake in many ways. Final Fantasy XI was a well made MMO, but it didn’t capture the hearts of so many fans in the same way, so I hope to gather through my playthrough what makes this game so special in the hearts of its dedicated fans.

  1. Aww man, I didn't want to write another long comment like that, but since it's almost the end…

First of all, the info you requested. My personal recommendations would be:

-[Coils of Bahamut] Not only it is very important to the main story, it's almost surprising that it's not a part of MSQ. It's also an introduction to raiding. (A bit dated, but the idea is still there.) The only "downside" is that it is quite hard and requires an 8-player party. (Like almost all other raids.) So it would probably take you at least one more week to learn the mechs and complete the coils. You could try doing the first few, but once you hit twintania, the first big boss, it may be a struggle.

-[Gold saucer] Not much to say here other than just checking it out. There are some minigames in there, but a random big one takes place every 20 mins. I'd check out at least two of them. You can also unlock chocobo racing and triple triad there. You can actually go hunt cards from dungeons and random npcs all over the world that you can challenge for a duel, but that's probably not something for this playthrough :v

-[Side content] There are some dungeons and other stuff you can unlock with blue sidequests. Most of them are nothing special in ARR, but it's good to know if you'd like to run and try stuff you missed. There are also some optional Primals like Odin, I believe you already started his quest chain. Here's a very useful link with all the unlockable content. There are no spoilers there, only quest names and what they unlock.

-[Palace of the dead] To be honest it can be either hit or miss, some people like it, some people don't. You can either run it with 4 players or solo, but doing it alone can be quite boring and painful.

Here are some comments on some other content that's been mentioned

-[The rest of the ARR main story quests] As you know there are a few Realm Reborn quests that has been released in patches shortly after 2.0 happened. They are not DLC quests, it's still ARR and the game will let you know once you are move into Heavensward. I was hoping you'd go through them as well, but I understand why you want to end it right here. If you are not going to finish this storyline now, I'm not sure if I would recommend starting it. Like the ongoing story it's also a slow burn, even if quite shorter that what you've been doing so far.

-[Crystal tower] To be able to run these alliance raids you need to finish a lot of patch MSQs mentioned above. They are locked until you progress through the story. They are also mandatory anyway, but it's unlikely that you'll be able to check them out. (Unless you'll decide that you want to finish the ARR patch quests during the fantathon.)

Ok, now the personal part. I must say, when I was watching this I gained a bit more respect for realm reborn. It's not nearly as bad as I remembered it to be, and it was really cool to realize that. I still think that it could be much, much more better and it fails to introduce new players to the best parts of this game, but it's not awful. Was really fun to re-experience that, because I definitely wouldn't have patience to do that myself.

That brings me to my question. Since it's the end of fantathon (at least for this game), if you do end up playing it again, you probably won't be putting it on youtube?
