The Raid That Changed FFXIV History

Watch this next: https://youtu.be/DO-Uh5AwLJU

Thank you so much for watching. I’m a little nervous as I write this, but I genuinely hope that there’s a place in FFXIV content for these longer form pieces telling stories from the game’s past, because it would be my absolute pleasure to make more like this. I’ve learnt a lot, even from starting this project til today, and I can promise you that if this video has the interest, I will make another, and it will be better than this one – I’ve learnt a lot to improve especially the visual even since finishing this video. Also I wish I could’ve found more of Kindred’s prog footage. Have a fantastic rest of your day, and if you haven’t already, give DSR a go.

  1. I haven't watched the video yet, but all I can say about this ultimate is, since we have the hypothetical "What if history was different" story going on, we can theoretically have anything in any ultimate going forward. Some people have looked at what should be the next ultimates and be like "I don't think they could do anything with it" like Shinryu, which should theoretically be the next ultimate, but after DSR launched and we basically have an alternate timeline/history story, they can literally do anything they want with any ultimate and it will work

  2. I would like to an ultimate on patch and as a true blind group. But i think the real challenge is getting 7 other people with similar expectations (i.e the real ultimate). I also play on console….

  3. my favorite part about phase one is the music, yeah its reused but the music felt like settling something for revenge (i.e haurchecant)
with this song playing in p1 it feels so much more powerful compared to when you first hear it in the vault
    i fucking love heavensward

  4. Just saw enrage on P7 today, and this video shows up. This fight is easily the most invested I've been in any game and I don't feel like I'm wasting my time despite wipe after wipe.

  5. This was an incredible experience to live through and watch live. Thank you for your videos and I hope after some lull and much deserved break we'll have also incredible races and experiences in Dawntrail.

  6. Maybe I'm alone in all this but I didn't feel Hoursefart's death at all. Heck, the 1st time I went through the story I couldn't remember who he was. It was only after my 2nd playthrough that I was like "oh the coffee dude". Then the game proceeds to hang this dude over my head and I just couldn't be assed. Like dude he's dead get over it, lol (did feel bad for his dad though). Now the quest "a million malms away" at the end of the loporitts tribal questline slap me straight into the floor. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ guess I'm just weird like that.

  7. Incredibly well put out video, I got friends that don't really raid at high level but you explained things in such a basic and cohesive way that they will surely get a kick watching this!.

Just a mention on Phase 5, when you were wondering why people were considering blocking the Knight's Spear, it was most likely because in the Extreme version of Thordan's fight you had to do exactly that, so it was most likely something that veteran raiders that did the fight were considering a solution at the time.

  8. I don't do ultimates and honestly I had to pick up my jaw from the floor when I finished watching your video. I had no idea this fight was such a masterwork. Not only the fight design and mechanics, but from a story telling perspective too, I'm seriously mind-blown. Bonus points for the excellent video, I'd love to see more such fight-analyses in the same style.
Thanks, it was a treat 😀

  9. I know this is a minor thing, but can you not have your thumbnail be MSQ spoilers?

His death is a very important story beat. It takes people many hours to get there. It's one of only a FEW deaths of named NPCs in the ENTIRE game.

You don't spoil the ending of ARR, do you?

  10. It's really rare to have someone willing to make well-edited, long-form video content, who also plays and competes at the level required to give the content, but more importantly the experience of playing in and watching the race itself, justice. This video sent me right back to the immediate 'oh god what does that even mean' when we noticed our LB stayed at 2 bars during P1, the joy of progging to a new phase and getting to hear the OST change from my own POV, rather than a stream, all the way through the sound of his solemn vow being broken for the god-knows-what'th time, basking in the moment during the P6 transition, and finally popping off with my group on our clear. I think it's really important to have someone out there who can truly capture what it was like to be there, in a way that an otherwise eloquent content creator couldn't just from watching bits of the race and getting the fight explained to them second-hand. You did good with this one 😀

As a personal thing, I'm just a dime-a-dozen week 1 healer, but you've always been one of the players I've looked up to as a progression healer since I started in late ShB, and I hope you're doing well <3. I've been enjoying the recent content and the EW WHM tip videos in particular went into a level of detail I felt like was sorely needed and missing from the usual entry-level job guides, to the point I made it partially through creating my own before yours released and blew the idea out of the water. Hope to see more stuff from you whenever it comes!

  11. one day ill be able to devote the time and mental energy to doing ultimates.

    or ill die.

i just have so little time to spend in my day to day i cant devote any of it to something like a static. which sucks because i really want the difficult content and i want to do it.

  13. I didnt world prog this but i did get to it in 6.3 since i had a goal of clearing the raid before anabaseios savage dropped i joined a really nice static for it at the time and we spent around 100 hours progging this fight and it was amazing the whole way through. And my reclears to get all of the weapons felt the same be they in PF or the reclear static i joined later. This is my favorite raid in the game bar none and nothing else really comes close. The narrative, mechanics, music amd everything else just came together to make an unforgettable experience. And its one ill never get tired of.
