5 Stories You Didn't Know about in FFXIV!

I got this idea when talking to one of my lore buddies, FFXIV Fun Facts over on Twitter. They reminded me of some obscure stories and I wanted to see how much people did or didn’t know about these characters that are see more than once in the game. I hope everyone enjoys this video cause I had a lot of fun putting it together!

  1. What you said about the msq – it is so entertaining I found it difficult not to rush through it. As I replay it now (doing every side quest, every job quest, etc) I am in awe of how much content there is outside of the msq, what wonderful characters and stories.
I had no idea about Aymeric (I'm still on ARR) but very happy for him. Estienien can spare him a dragon friend or two :).

  2. I feel a new fondness for Koh, even though i've sort of neglected her and Noah for some months. I can relate strongly to what they have going on. I can't imagine being normal one day and then suddenly ended up this way, at least I got to organically grow up with it. She has to fully relearn how to live.

  3. I knew of kageyama, gosetsu and some of Eloise due to going through several side quests so far. But it was fun to learn more that I had yet to discover. Thanks for covering these stories

  4. From where you have the info about Aymeric and his dragon? Just positively curious 🙂
Was it in Stormblood Dragoon quests? TT card? some updated dialogues in later game?
I know him mostly from Fates, but can't think about any other places.
    Regards! Thanks for vid 🙂

  5. I was unaware that the friendship grew after Sohr Kai and some of the latter bits of dialog, just kinda assumed it might be a thing. Rest was fairly familiar and still loathe the rich boy for… but was nice to get some greater details on, thank you for this <3

  6. Gosetsu is one of my most emotionally attached characters. I love jovial older characters, but holy heck, his views and his development are so broad. Adoptive Parents also I LOVE. But he losses both people he was raising and protecting and holds a front, then just BREAKS. Physically and mentally, becoming a healer as he walks the lands and pay respects for people who suffered and lost. He’s such a good character

EW Spoilers but I’m SOOOOO UPSET he wasn’t in the MSQ to fight against Fandaniel and seeing him snap seeing the face of Asahi, even if it wasn’t him. It was a missed opportunity and would be good to see another character come back

  7. I knew very little which doesn't surprise me since I've been dead set on MSQ since I started the game a few years ago. But now that I've gotten up to the most recent patch I'll probably slowly make a list of interesting side content to explore.

  8. I understand why you don't typically share what quests and materials you get your information from, since you are supposed to be a scholar within the lore of the game and everything, but can you at least share the in-game quests that tell these stories? I'd love to experience some of them for myself too. If it's not too much trouble of course. You seem like somebody to organize your notes well enough to know which quests you are referencing.

  9. I started a new playthrough recently. I knew about Gosetsu's mercenary past. It gets a brief mention in SB, when Yotsuyu is interrogating him. I think his daughter is also mentioned in MSQ.
Vedrfolnir tests Aymeric while Hraesvelgr does the same for the player in Sohr Khai. Didn't know they started fighting together, though. If you play the Dragoon quests, you find that his consort is from Nidhogg's brood. She fled to the far east, rather than answering Nidhogg's call.
I barely remembered Koh and Noah, mostly because the recent live letter mentioned they would be involved with the new Deep Dungeon.

  10. Of the five stories, the only one I knew anything about was Koh, and only to a limited degree. I was happy to learn more!

There are so many hidden stories like these in this game. Just last week I stumbled upon one such story. And if you don't mind the ramble, I'd like to share it. I can think of worse places to talk about it than the comments of a lore video.

When I was replaying the Red Mage job quests, I stumbled upon an old journal written by "a goldsmith", hinting at a mysterious visit to Haukke Manor. This rang a bell in the back of my mind: This wasn't the first journal by "a goldsmith" that I've seen. Another had appeared during the MSQ in Old Sharlayan's forbidden archives. I ran directly there to check again. And I must say, I love it whenever I find myself running to an in-game library to do my own lore research. I feel like a scholar!

Anyway, this mysterious Goldsmith: NOT Godbert, as my first assumption lead me to believe. This nameless goldsmith comes from Gridania. And apparently after what he witnessed in Haukke manor, became obsessed with the Void. He crafted the Wind-Up Succubus before trying to summon his own, an illegal act that saw him sentenced to death and hanged.

Some time later, the Puff of Darkness wind-up minion was discovered which matched the style of the wind-up succubus. Gridanian authorities had to check, and dug up the Goldsmith's grave, finding it empty. Nobody knows what happened to the mad goldsmith, but he is likely behind the creation of every wind-up voidsent minion you've ever seen, and each has a fragment of his story in their description, and in the restricted section of both Old Sharlayan and Great Gubal Libary.

  11. And this is only 5 that are even touched upon in the MSQ, out of dozens if not hundreds of others that aren't even thought of, let alone mentioned by a main character that isn't yourself. And most of them have something compelling about them and their story that are worth exploring, even if only just a little bit.

  12. I knew a bit about each of them, but not the more fleshed out stories. Elaisse (hope I got the spelling right) always came across as a lady who know where how to wisely invest and spend, but wow, powerhouse family indeed!
Kageyama is just one of those people who have only one solution in life to problems: throw money at it (quite literally). Stupid amounts. 😀
And it just makes so much sense for Amyeric to bond with a dragon–he certainly is not a typical ishgardian born man. Time will tell how his legacy plays out!

  13. i remember the ishgardian lady as the "that one lady who does not discriminate in the matters of money"
I am so glad you touched on the miqote now i really wanted to know more about her before you know what thank you

  14. I pride myself on being a lore nerd and came into this thinking that I was gonna know it all. But, I must admit, you have taught me something today. I didn't realize that Vidfolnir had befriended Aymereic, but I gotta admit… it makes a lot of sense.

  15. I would like to see a video about Lord Lolorito some day, he's one of my low key favorite characters in the game and I think not many people give him some deserved respect. I can't entirely blame them though, as in A Real Reborn he was basically another trope character like many others were back then, but as the game progressed and the characters started to gain more development, he evolved from this uninteresting capitalist douchebag to a wealthy, powerful and yet complex individual with a pragmatism that is hard to argue with. Sadly, most of this development is missed by the mayority of the players as can only be experienced in some stories in the Lodestone or side quests, but in the undervalued meeting between him and Nanamo in the post Stormblood MSQ you can see that he's more than a rich prick when the Sultana earned his respect as a ruler, and started to give her his support.

  16. I'm ashamed to not have known Vedrfolnir and Aymeric had become such close friends, considering Aymeric is my favorite character. I really hope we can learn more about their relationship in the future!
