Nobbel’s take on the differences bewteen the puzzles on the stories from Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft recent history. Where to tell a story there can be more than one way to aboard the changelle and the use of the plataform of little pieces of information to get the players to consume the game. With some extra minutes on how he is actually still discovering new pieces for the puzzle of FFXIV complete puzzle plot.

Gr8 video editing, really fitting- shows a "picture". 14/10 rate
P.S: I love Nobbels goof around however it's nice to see his more analytical opinion
Great video.
I agree on the puzzle analogy.
One thing I admire about the FFXIV writing team, especially Natsuko Ishikawa, is that they understand the importance of building up to these moments. They lay a believable foundation, so that when these OMGWTF moments happen, they feel organic, not shoehorned in; Blizzard's writers, unfortunately, don't build, they cut and paste. That's why things like "this is the conclusion of the story since WC3" come off like a joke. We knew about the jailer for all of 1 expansion. On the other side, we've seen the Ascians plotting since ARR, we just didn't know the whole story. That's why, when you get to moments like these in FFXIV, the story sucks you in, because the whole picture of FFXIV, from ARR to ShB–at the time–and eventually, EW, all starts to make sense.
Warcraft used to be that one big Puzzle that I admired, but yeah it grown up to be messy and a lot of piece isn't bring masterfully fit in the missing part.
and then come Jailer masterplan that change entire Puzzle and now it almost no longer the same puzzle I see when I was a kid playing Warcraft 2 and Warcraft 3
On the Ascians not caring about other beings, its worth noting that in Emet's illusion of Amourot the Ascians view the Scions as children rather than familiars, indicating Emet seems to have not believed the hole "not real people" argument
Some great insight and comparisons. Love to see it.
Well said. You have the crystal tower morse being "it's all wrong" and they chose to have Meteion use those words when connecting to her sisters. They have Hydaelyn telling you to "Hear, feel, think" since ARR. And then Meteion goes "I wish to hear your words, share your feelings, and know your thoughts". Some of these things are references, some of these things may have further reaching implications. Which one is it? We don't know, until the devs come out with it. Until then we can theory craft and all that. I remember thinking in Shadowbringers when Elidibus was sealed "Wait, so he's just in there? Aren't we supposed to destroy the crystal we lock the ascians in with a beam of light?" and it came back around in Endwalker: Elidibus indeed still being in there. They set these things up, and then they use it. Meanwhile the Jailer was more of a "Let's use this guy people liked to set up this guy". They obviously never planned Arthas to be a setup for the Jailer. They just decided that the Jailer was the mastermind behind Sargeras, who is the mastermind behind Kil'jaeden, who is the mastermind behind Ner'zhul, who is the mastermind behind Arthas. Also Arthas's drip was really the jailer's drip all along so the jailer is like super cool you guys. The WoW definition of building on what's there seems to be "this guy is the real mastermind behind that previous guy".
Also yeah, the Venat cutscene was not literal. In case you missed it: That one guy accidentally summoned a monster and got eaten? And Venat just watched and kept slowly walking? And Hythlodaeus and Emet are just standing a few meters away from this as well while just chatting about things? Yup, all figuratively. Vague recollections of Venat's memory. Hythlodaeus waving goodbye and walking away was most likely referencing Hythlodaeus being among those sacrificing themselves to Zodiark, hence why Emet was angry there. And yeah, Venat had collaborators, so she wasn't forcing those others to be sacrifices for her instead. That's the thing we learned in that giant crystal storage thing in Shadowbringers, where we first hear the name Venat.
It's pretty likely that the crystals we see when we're floating in space between worlds are memories, rather than actual events in time. During the Eden storyline, memories are shown as crystals. And at the start of Shadowbringers, we see Minfilia stopping the flood and going "it's not your time", which we later learn was Ardbert's memory, when he wanted to sacrifice himself alongside his friends but Minfilia denied him. So, like most memories, just think of the Venat cutscene as "her vague recollection" rather than her forcing a bunch of nerds into following her. We have the Watcher, who confirmed he was one of those who sacrificed themselves for Hydaelyn, and he was nowhere to be seen in that one, so it's lacking some details for the full picture.
I like this analogy. Like you said, the FXIV team left a nice big plot hole that could be filled in with whatever they wanted, but the final piece of the puzzle was the right shape and notched in nicely. WoW couldn't get a puzzle piece the right shape, so it's as if they sawed off other pieces of the puzzle so they could cram their own final piece in there.
XIV also laid the foundation for tons of other mysteries – with six other shards still to visit, plus the entire southern and other half of the planet with Mericydia and the New World, and then there's lots of politics left to do with the remaining Imperial territories that aren't quite ready to accept the reforms of the Populares.
FFXIV finishes a story and starts a new one off of lingering threads.
WoW wants to keep the story going so they keep trying to ram things into older threads to keep it all connected together.
That's how I see it.
Great video as always, to me most impressive thing is how they can create such incredible characters. Background story and build ups helps of course but characters like Venat really didn't have that much info on them. Hydaelyn was an enigma for years but even then i really prefer Venat over Hydaelyn and making her character in a single expansion with this much impact is an art for sure. Oh btw i don't know if Hydaelyn had any other references from other games because never played any FF title before, FFXIV was my first one. Played WoW since beta and Warcraft since it's release. I really don't want to compare two games but for me Warcraft universe as a world was better. Maybe because i spent years on it but changing zones, little stories tied to each location and experiencing those in WoW after seeing it Warcraft series for years was an unreplaceable novel thing to me. It dimished after legion though, then i stop caring all together because even you have a beautiful world, forced character narratives and unstable stories are taking all the positives. At least for me.
Alot of people miss the point. Hydaelin says "a conjunction between your time and mine has begun" the original timeline had hydaelin being created by her followers , the second timeline was created when we went back in time to elpis, so the scenes before we go to the future is actually real , she just creates herself with her own power , similar to how most Asians have an ascended form. She already knows what she will do because we told her. When we arrive at the future. The timelines meet again. I don't understand why people keep missing that point.
Appreciate your insight on the story. Good stuff.
Lol this video is very good cheers and thank you, can't wait to see the end walk
Also as soon as you find out why the Asians created Zodiark it implies that there is a greater problem at hand whereas the jailer is literally a last second asspull
im 99% sure chat was wrong when they tried to correct nobel on the venat thing. those WERE zodiark worshippers and venat said no. and sac'd them to form hydaelyn. whoever corrected you in chat was wrong.
