Can Game Journalists Make a Good List ?!? Xeno Reacts To FFXIV Endwalker Pros and Cons of Each Tank

In this video Xeno Reacts to another Final Fantasy XIV List, this time not a tier list but instead a pros and cons for each tank going into Endwalker Savage Raids. This list was originally published on Esports Heaven under the title “Savage Prep – Pros and Cons of each tank”. Did Xeno finally found a decent game journalist list?

  1. Oh shit here we go again!

these guys do it on purpose for exposition , i cant realistically think that someone serious about raiding/static think like that … but i can be wrong and in this case i dont want to be wrong :3

  2. How does one get to the conclusion "brutal shell is the weakest sustain" when it heals you for 200 potency and shields you for another 200 potency for a total of 400 (and if push comes to shove you can completely tank your DPS and proc it every second GCD but that's not really something you want to have to do in savage obviously).
DRK only gets 300 and WAR 250 in their standard rotation (and PLD gets 400 every 6th hit on average the math gets weird and bursty there). Do they not know how numbers work??? 400 is higher than 300 and 250.

  3. The thing about Warriors not being able to get as much value out of raid buffs also applies to paladins as their flat damage curve puts more of their damage in the "outside of raid buffs" part of the curve. It's just that while warrior outright doesn't get value from some buffs but does have the burst to make good use of the ones that it can, Paladin just gets less from all of them when their raid buff burst is roughly half of a Dark Knight's and still significantly worse than Gunbreaker's. It's probably a bad sign when both the tanks that synergise the worst with raid buffs are the lowest damage even in 0 raid buff scenarios.

  4. Sometimes I feel like the block mechanic on pal could use an overhaul. It’s essentially a tie over from the archaic blocking system that’s been around forever where like in WoW a portion of damage is blocked. I’m not mega fucking good at the game but I’ve played a lot of taking roles throughout many RPGs and what I’ve discovered is that block really isn’t a great mechanic when you have tanks that can’t block. It creates a weird balance issue where the block tank has to suffer negative balance in some way to offset the presence of chance block or forced block, and it does so in a nebulous way. When I ply pld I don’t ever really feel the mitigation provided through block even though I’m aware that blocks are happening. I guess the point is more of a gameplay one, I wish I could more viscerally feel blocks as that’s part of the Allure of a shield tank…raising the shield like a wall to block heavy swings.
