How to catch Smaragdos in FFXIV (Lv.88 FSH Role Quest)

(This guide contains no MSQ quest name spoilers, but does include the a mid-game zone announced in a live letter, along with its music.)

The next Studium FSH role quest will have you travel amongst time and space itself… to catch some fish for T’laqa.

✅Quest Pickup
Once you’re Lv.88 Fisher, and have completed the appropriate MSQ, return to T’laqa Tia to pick up your next assignment. He’ll ask for an ancient fish that is long extinct, but you’re the Warrior of Light with an affinity for fishing, so you’ll nod and solve the problem.

🎣 Catching Smaragdos
Head to Elpis, and to the region called “Lethe.” Covered in vibrant blue water you can fish just about anywhere. Use Collect and Patience II, then cast out with a Sky Spoon Lure (purchase with White Scrip) into the waters. Smargdos is a !! bite, sharing a bite with Iribainion – you can not tell the difference between the two. You can though, use Surface Slap on iribainion, meaning the next !! bite will be a Smaragdos. Up to you if you want to do that.

Either way, reel in all the !! bites, ignoring the ! bites (unless leveling, then reel them all in). Use Powerful Hookset to catch. If you catch a Smaragdos, use Identical Cast to catch a second. Repeat this until you have six (6) Collectable Smaragdos for T’laqa.

Once you have the six, return to T’laqa for scrips and a cutscene with his assistant and professor!
