I'm thinking of recording a video talking about the game's basic combat and gameplay mechanics (since I lot of folks who don't play MMOs have asked about them). If you have any questions about gameplay that you'd like me to answer in such a video, ask them in this thread!
that one cutscene is so hilarious. Alphinaud just waltzes into a church with his smarmy ARR voice to force an amnesiac to recover his memory cause he needs his airship and cid's like "i…… i….. .have…. an airship….??" and alphinaud is like "YES cid, your airship" sounding extremely condescending, at least in english. And hes like half cid's age and four feet tall
God I want to break Alphinaud's nose with that sneering voice
Wow I've been playing this game since 2013 and I never heard of the great Gobbu wall XD, That's such a great story and the fact that the devs recognize it and reference in game, that's one of the many reasons why I really wanted this series to continue because I knew that you would read everything and talk to all npcs and discover all the cool things I missed during my play time especially since I skipped alot I didn't pay much attention to the story until the end of Heavensward.
I miss the times when sweet little Durmin was simply handing out pretzels. Back before everything suddenly got very real🥺🥺😭❤️
24:18 Whose sassy child is this?!
Sometimes I forget these are filmed a week or so earlier, then Dan mentions it snowing and I get worried we got hit by another round of snow somehow
I love how you use your characters emotes to bring Durmin to live. Having him sit down as you tell the story of The Great Goobue Wall is like as if he's telling the story himself. I love that you do that.
Also I'm glad the game was respectful and gave proper time to unpack and let you deal with the loss of the Scions. Some games just let the characters die and let it leave at there, as if nothing changed at all and that never feels right to me. I just wish Durmin managed to get some rest before they had to leave again to deal with another Titan tho
If it's a French based pronunciation (which it may not be in this case) "Marques" is pronounced "mar-kee" as in rhymes with Mars Key.
This isn't a problem, per se, but I have noticed that sometimes it can be a little tricky to follow what's going on, not through any fault of the game or your editing, but simply because your UI is arranged differently than mine.
I was in 1.0, though I never made it to the level cap, but I don't remember the Great Goobbue Wall. I, unfortunately, didn't log in as much during the end times, and I kinda wish I had, because I learned after the fact that I of course missed some very interesting things.
Even Cid is a bishi in this game 😀
The best quests with the best character in them are coming up and I can't wait 😀
It'll be interesting to see how much of the Marques questline is cut out. A bunch of the company of heroes was.
The poncho is very fitting with this cold weather, very cozy
If you note the side quest just to the north of Durman at the end, finishing it will give you the /throw emote 🙂
Any news on when this game will be available to new players again? I want my own Lalafell! 🥺
Fun fact: The speed at which you pick up the corpses is based on the size of the corpse. That is why the first Roegadyn is so slow but Noraxia is near instant. Just a little bit of mechanical storytelling.
Me: Realized it was tuesday and there were no new episodes of FF
Me: Realized I was looking forward to FF episodes
Me: Realized I didn't have enough time yesterday to watch Monday's episode. 🙂
A question for anyone who knows about the Great Goobue Wall. Was it effective? Did it manage to keep any monsters out of the city?
I had forgotten about details of the bringing out the dead quest, this is a particularly brutal part of the game for sure.
I found Marques's revelation scene too ludicrous to be believable, especially because it was supposed to be a very serious scene. Like, how am I supposed to believe that through a migraine of memory a character fully remembers themself? I don't buy it
So here I can supply some 1.0 knowledge – sadly not about the Great Wall Of Goobbue, but about something else: Central Coerthas has suffered a climate change through the Calamity! The zone has existed in 1.0 previously and had a much more Scottish / Irish Highlands-esque look to it: Green hills and plateaus with grey cliffsides. Since ARR this is now a snowy zone, but once we move on to the Heavensward expansion, which features the rest of Coerthas, we're gonna see that aesthetic return.
As someone who has no personal experience with MMOs with any substantial form of narrative it's kinda fascinating seeing this game use standard MMO quest formulas to have the protag lay their dead friends to rest. It's booth an affecting way to give a difference in kind and intensity from the Titan fight and frankly just not a side of mortality I've really seen explored much at all in games. Like unless a game is fully designed around it, it seems exceedingly rare to ever have to handle the more "mundane", manual tasks of carrying corpses of characters and taking them for burial.
oh man these ARR voices lmao
Man, that church is just strewn with wine bottles.
Goobbues ❤
Get hyped, because Coerthas is like the best stretch of the entire base ARR experience. There is some stuff in the ARR patch content that is up there, but from game start to the first credits roll, Coerthas wins, hands down. Natsuko Ishikawa gets a lot of love for her incredible writing work in Shadowbringers and the Dark Knight storyline, but she was killing it all the way back in ARR.
THIS was the point in the story that my investment was solidified. I had already purchased the game and subscribed after hearing a spoilercast of later content (SB raid to be specific), but it was here that I was no longer only thinking about future content but was fully paying attention and immersed in THIS part of the story. Something about Marques' reveal as Cid was the most Final Fantasy thing to have happened so far. Might be the familiar name or that I immediately recognized him as A Cid (longtime FF fans know the feeling) and one that I would be enjoying immensely. And boy was I right.
By the way Dan, you have a typo in the chapter markers, you say "Eyes one Me" instead of "Eyes on Me"
How long is Eluned going to take to bury that poor guy? He literally spent all day just standing over him. He even took the time to bury 7 other bodies and then went back to staring at his corpse.
I know this was supposed to be a sombre point in the story, but I just found it comical. The idea of unceremoniously shoving 4 corpses into a tiny bag is really dumb.
