My First Dungeon in Final Fantasy XIV

My very first dungeon in FFXIV was pretty… chaotic. So many questions… so little time. I promise I’ve gotten a lot better! Enjoy!

  1. Appreciate how much you're loving this game! Keep going, it's a long story, its a great one at that and it just keeps getting better. The game was made for people like you who love and appreciate the hard work put in, keep it up on your stream and you'll enjoy the ride

  2. Limit breaks should be used mostly by the dps unless a specific LB is needed such as a wipe a healer can rez everyone which is super important also don't use LB until the boss is like a little less than a quarter hp. I'm glad you seem to be having fun and I look forward to watching more!

  3. Just a small warning: Square Enix can be strict with degrading other players. One way to help yourself with videos/streams is the option to change players names to their initials.

Also, for the most part type in chat that you are new and people will slow down. And they will usually be helpful.

  5. Congratulations on your first dungeon! It's definitely overwhelming at first especially if you're new and everyone else just zooms through it if they've done it before and they get it through a leveling roulette (the dungeons sub 50 can take a little longer compared to the later dungeons). Most of the time it helps if you say in chat that you're new and sometimes they will offer advice or go slower (or you'll get completely silent groups lol). You're doing fine! It's slow in the beginning, but once you get more skills and abilities as you level, it'll pick up when you get to weave in your off global cooldowns. 🙂

  6. Saw your concern about targeting. One thing I always recommend to new players is to change targeting to a "Cone" under Character Configuration > Targeting. I find it easier since it's based on the direction you are facing

  7. Small tip, nobody cares about dungeon loot in FFXIV. There are multiple reason why you always greed. To trade in for seals for grand company. As you rank up, you get special items like glamour prism that allows you to transmog. Venture coins to send out your retainers for crafting items. And also desynthing. Each profession in crafting has the ability to desynth. Each of then has a level. At max level, you get a greater chance of receiving rare items for crafting. And of course, to grow your glamour collections.

  8. If I get Sastasha and there's someone new in the group I'll usually do small pulls, especially if the DPS don't have AOEs, which some don't at this level. No point in doing big pulls if the DPS has to single target everything. And these days, with so many people coming in, I don't want them to feel rushed. I want them to actually enjoy the content. I'll also offer to give them the full tour, so long as no one objects, to grab all the side rooms, give them the map achievement and all the treasure chests if they want any loot. The extra exp is nice for people leveling, too.

On the other hand, if I get Sastasha and I see everyone's wearing high level gear and we just somehow all ended up in this low level instance, I say "F— it, let's roll!" (Funny enough, I will sometimes still ask if someone needs the map achievement, and if someone says yes, we'll do the extra rooms anyway until it pops. You'd be surprised at the number of people who never get that achievement for Sastasha.)

  9. LB (limit break) should be saved until 10>5% health remaining. Your doing great you will get more skills to weave in over time just stay on top of you job quests they give you skills.

  10. In low-level content, you don't really need to be overly concerned about using Limit Break. If you're playing as a melee DPS, it's generally a pretty good idea to just burn it on whatever Boss you're fighting. If you were a Caster or a Ranged Physical DPS, then burn it whenever your Tank makes a big pull.

in High-level content (Extreme Trials, Savage Raids, Ultimate Raids) you need to be more strategic about where and when you use your Limit Break, but in Dungeons, you're better off just using it to DPS whatever you're fighting.

  11. Tip: NEED on everything you can.

The only other people you will be directly competing with is other dragoon’s but considering the number of DPS classes, it’s pretty rare in 4 man dungeons

You can trade these items in for grand company seals (which can be traded for retainer ventures) or sell for Gil (as a last resort)

Also, no one in my 1000 hrs + of playing has shit on on me for hitting NEED even when I didn’t have too. If you want gear for a specific class, the accepted practice is that you play that class rather than try and cut the queue time with a healer or tank etc

Tldr; NEED on everything you can, until your inventory gets full. No one minds, no one cares!

  12. If it makes you feel more comfortable to understand the dungeon before playing it, I recommend mrhappy's and MTQcaptures videos. If you search the name of the dungeon, they explain the different mechanics and what to expect. I personally find that this lets me focus on my job and not worrying about guessing at new mechanics

  13. tip on the Return skill, in the outside world it returns you to your designated location like a hearthstone. though in dungeons, it teleports you back to where you zoned in at. a couple dungeons its nice way to save time, so you dont have to backtrack to the entrance.

  14. commendations are just for cosmetics like mount and helm glam. in fact dont worry if you accidentally leave without commending, it usually goes to the last person to exit the instance anyways, so its not really wasted. someone will get it.

  15. Oh wow you have your bunny girl now. Just don't worry about the early skill rotations because later on you will have a handful of it. I do hope you stick to DRG until 80 but I won't blame you if you wont 🙂

  16. I would suggest do Hall of Novice to any new player, no matter previous experiences. All core mechanics are explained there and as bonus you get equip that will be good for about 10 levels.

  17. You may notice, but one of the biggest issues I find in low level dungeons is tanks who do really big pulls without taking into account whether the two dps have aoe's at that level. Because only some of them do.
