Based on how they seem to be referencing FFIV and FFV (and by extension, FFXI) we're definitely going to interact with Bahamut.

You just imagine Dalamud as the ISS then you will see how important it is. In real life, if we have a satellite, we can know the weather, what's happening, location (GPS), use it as a mean for telecommunication, etc. That's how advance the Old Allag Empire's technology was. The problem is, there was nothing powerful enough to fuse the weapon, so they learned how to extract the power from primals, and surprisingly, they were successful.
In short, we can see the image of Allagan Empire in us, mortal human beings. They can't use magic so they try to brainstorm and invent the machine technology to be able to fight against other races (magitek). And now they are the force that even Sharlayans can't compete with.
