Happy to be Wrong.
Don't worry; everyone was wrong about Tsuyu.
My god what a hard moment… kicking her
Justice for yotsuyu her story is one of the things I most like from stormblood
There will be many times in this game where there will be a turnaround from what was perceived before. It’s all right. It’s part of the experience. Enjoy your upcoming Shadowbringers journey.
I never really acknowledged Asahi as being a great villain, until you mentioned it. He really did make us hate him in such a short amount of time.
A tragic villain done well.
Being wrong about how you feel about a character in this game isn't uncommon. The characters in this game actuallys grows, learns from their folly, and evolve. I was on the same boat as you not liking certain people but liking towards later. This game is on the next level when it comes to story.
4.3 ruined my week when I played… had a big cry, needed to talk about it with friends, still probably processing tbh. It been good to tag along while you do it!
The more interesting 'long game' will be the other 'grey' female antagonist, Fordola…
I definitely have my problems with Stormblood. Yotsuyu's story line really won me back. My favorite part for sure.
Yes, I cried a LOT.
Also note that there are both 'Villains' and 'Antagonists' in the game. The greatest antagonist in possibly the whole FF franchise will turn up, and they even debate the meaning of Villain versus Hero.
Im pretty sure what they based it on is ASPD. i have aspd from childhood turama as well, you can feel some basic emotions but you can turn them off really easily. sociopathy over all has different levels. Same as other nurodivergent types. Someone like her who suffered years and years of trauma would likely have little understanding of empathy which is something that people with aspd lack. Some of us function on what is called cognitive empathy which is an understanding of why something is hurtful but no emotional connection to feeling that persons pain. There is def a wide variety of levels in which people who react to trauma, its pretty crazy what the brain is capable of in the need for survival.
Not sure how much you cried, but yeah I did too. The Tsukuyomi trial is in my top 3 fights in the game for narrative.
You never really know where a story will go. Like some people you don't believe can or should be redeemed get Redemption and the one you want to get restored (Yotsuyo) doesn't. That hurts.
Yotsuyo was made this way. Alot of people should take up some guilt to a degree in what she ended up becoming. She was made into a Monster.
This is such a wonderful video with its own buildup that I've been following for a while. Ever since you said "man it would have been nice if we got a boss fight out of her before she died," I've enjoyed your journey from discovering she was alive, to the actual boss fight! I am glad I caught those streams or watched those VODs! I also appreciate your perspective as a woman on the tastefulness (or lack thereof) of the entire delivery. When I played through a couple years ago I remember thinking "I wonder if this was controversial when it was new," right down to the corpse kicking. They basically wrote this lady through the worst case scenario of "humans as monsters" horrors, and yeah, it was risky. Thanks for touching on that!
FFXIV is in a class all their own among MMO's when it comes to writing. Even as Stormblood had its pacing problems, it had bright spots.
Here's the brightest spot of all: the best parts of Stormblood came from the Doma side of the story; the Doma side of the story was written by Natsuko Ishikawa; Natsuko Ishikawa wrote the ENTIRETY of the MSQ for the next expansion, Shadowbringers.
I'm about halfway through Shadowbringers, and it is a masterpiece so far. Imagine the Doma side of the story, but 10 times better, and exquisitely paced. That's Shadowbringers.
It's really interesting how we've been seeing characters on the otherside, either doing better under imperial rule or being put down by the people on the "good" side.
It's been adding a lot of depth to the overall conflict
I also like that they touched on those risky Topics especially when people intentionally ignore those topics because they are afraid to get into it. It also implicitly tells people that these types of things aren't ok and women or people in general shouldn't be treated in such a way.
In a Time where women are being transformed into bowls of fruit. It's good to see that SE team doesn't shy away or isn't afraid to talk about difficult things or treat people like they can't handle deeper subject matters.
FF peasant I think summed it up best with: 'Hurt people, hurt people' in his analysis video on the same subject :3
Yotsuyu, in my humble opinion, was designed to be misunderstood. So it’s wrong to say you’re wrong because you were right to misunderstand her and you are also right when you understand her.
One of my favorite parts of the whole fight sequence+cutscenes is in the fight intermission add phase when she starts imagining all the people who torment her. Even when she's conjuring images of how much everyone in her life hates her+torments her, she can't help thinking of+manifesting how Gosetsu only cares for and wants to save her. Definitely made me tear up a lot the first time I did the fight.
