Yoshi-P on WoW Exodus to FFXIV & Playing Other Games

I discuss Yoshida interview with PCGamer for the Endwalker Media Tour – he talked about his thoughts on the WoW exodus to FFXIV, as well as the topic of playing other games.

  1. Yoshi P gave a great example in I believe the rich/asmo interview as well. He said something along the lines of "If you're a hardcore raider that has finished the newest raid (savage/ultimate)and another game has released a new raid/content. Then go ahead and play that other game until we've released the next raid and feel free to come back." This is super paraphrased, but I love that ff14 respects your time.

Following the EW expansion is the global release of Lost Ark. I'm happy to know I can take a brake from ff14 to enjoy Lost Ark for awhile and comfortably comback to FF14 whenever.

  2. Thing with yoshiP vs WoW leadership is yoshiP is trying to make a game he would actually like to play. He's putting himself into it. And he understands gamer mindset. FFXiV should be fun, not a second job like what WoW has become.

That is substantially different mindset than how blizzard is currently and it shows.

  3. I love that this has been Yoshi's stance for years. Too many MMOs and live service games try to keep you tied down and "maximize engagement." Yoshi-P is like "how about we maximize fun?"

  4. The other thing is that you get a much better appreciation of games as a whole by playing more of them than just one. Even Yoshi P himself plays a bunch of other games aside from just MMOs.

  5. i would like to say that timing is important. "new" content even if old but "new" to "me" is new.

i remember being a kid and getting game systems much much later than my friends. so much so that they never wanted to play the games i had just gotten and that were "new" to me. it's good to be current.

  6. I think part of his point is new FF players might be a bit better off by cutting out the "constantly vocally trashing my ex" behavior when it comes to that other game we used to play.

  7. A little off topic here but, if I pre-order Endwalker now (not owning any other expansion) will I get access to all previous expansions too or, will I need to buy them all individually?

  8. Yoshi-P is the real deal. He's a hardcore game enthusiast and a game designer, the absolute peak of perfection in the industry that we players only benefit from. It's something you rarely see these days with corporate shills leading some of the biggest game development teams out there, exerting their corrupting, profit-driven influence on our favorite franchises. We all know who they are.

  9. I do want to emphasize something YoshiP said Quazii from Jesse Cox Media Tour stream and that it's important that your video and Streams are set for Japanese Translation and I'm sure you understand what that is. And that's so the Japanese community who are not as English versed can view English, NA, European players stream and vids. And that the Devs themselves do watch English player's streams, vids, just much easier if it has a translation on so they can understand. This is very much worth communicating.

  10. Only thing I ask from you WoW refugees is that you eventually try the other final fantasy games….I'm in a FC with mostly WoW refugees lol I'm geeking out about kefka being in a fight and I get blank stares all around lol

  11. Love your contents! I have been a big fan of the Final Fantasy franchise. I love FFXIV and very proud of what it has become. Being someone who played the 1.0 version, you have no idea how disappointed I was of that game. I was an avid FFXI player, the minute we heard ffxiv was coming we were over the moon! Well, you know what happened when it did. Yoshi P is my idol! Here I am few years later, still loving FFXIV since ARR. Too bad my health is not as good as back then so i cant really raid much anymore . And yes, I do play other games, Animal Crossing for one :). Just remember to check your housing if you have one once in a while if you. You dont want it be demolished like my Mom's 😔. She actually cried when she found out 3 months later…Thank you again for making contents like this! You make my day more enjoyable 🙂.

  12. I mean the sad part is they're killing WoW from the inside almost seemingly on purpose. Meanwhile ff14 respects your time and continues to strive to be better. FF14 devs love the game they make and it comes through in the product. The WoW devs lost that enthusiasm some time ago and it's showing more and more each year. So moving to ff14 from WoW feels like moving into a loving adoptive family that's happy to have you join them and there to help you through the rough life you lead with a previous bad foster family.
