#####
The game sold out, and then the character creation service was taken offline due to MASSIVE player demand.
Thankfully, the brilliant Yoshi P and the FF14 team were there to deal with it.
This is a perfect example of how to do a corporate apology, right.
Thanks as always to the Patreon and twitch subs, you little Yoshi P’s you.

nice info but watching this bad tank just makes my brain hurt.
what i like about how FF14 developers particularly Naoki Yoshida way of handle things is not just being transparent, but i really appreciate at how they always didnt treat fans like an idiot. they didnt held back to explain any technical difficulties etc. and they trust the fans will understand what they trying to tell. this is not first time they did this. this also prove of strong bond and trust between community and developers. both ways.
the staff of ffxiv has always gone above and beyond.
towards the end of 1.0 they showered us with ingame goodies, they stopped charging subscription, they said a thousand thank yous to us for all the patience we've shown while they remade the entire game in record time.
they were and are always open to suggestions (literally every little tweak and feature i've suggested over the decade, has been implemented into the game by now)
overall, they're just level with the community. they don't talk down on us from their ivory tower and belittle us.
instead they recognize that they are just people like you and me. a large amount of the staff implements things for us in their spare time. like, we have flying in ARR, not because yoshi told them to do it, but because they heard us asking for it. so they thought happy gamers would be worth working some unpaid overtime…
sure there's an evil corporation at the top who wants nothing but your money. yet the dev team outshines that fact with pure dedication to their game and community.
Yoshi.P makes me cry because he is so pure… I love him. He has given me my FAVOURITE Final Fantasy game and I say that as a true FF veteran.
Do they also give out free game time besides the apology like Blizzard did once upon a time?
Btw, Squeenix does what I already hated when Blizzard started doing it: Having fucking cash shop items on top of charging for the base game + for every expansion + monthly fees. Sadly reading about this topic, people have been defending this shit for years in both games and these people are part of the problem why gaming is going downhill. Once upon a time people were outraged about Oblivion's horse armour but now many are brainwashed into mindless minions defending their masters.
But well, we are talking about a company here, that is selling Dragon Quest XI, starts selling DQ XI S a year later for the Switch, saying it will be Switch exclusive and that the PC and PS4 versions won't get Updates with the new content, a year later suddenly decide to sell DQ XI S for PC and PS4 too, still not offering Upgrades for the day one buyers that made the game a success and on top of the XI S for PC and PS4 is the graphically downgraded Switch version.
Or should we bring up, how shitty they threated the PC version for Nier Automata and how the Nier Automata GOTY Edition doesn't have the DLCs and patches on disc, but the version on disc is the same as the original release?
I find it real funny how ff14 hasnt fixed this issue the servers have always been loaded to capacity… its weird to see a subscription base game always have a cue to get into my server…. with that said the game is fantastic but ive been on one of the first us servers and so its always filled to capacity
Solution: Buy some of the eu servers of wow, they dont seem to need as many anymore
I'm not even mad. I'm 3 days after surgery so even sitting down for any period of times starts to hurt, so despite what I thought, I'm just not doing any gaming this week. I just amuse myself with videos of blizzard failing and square enix trying to stop the flood of refugees from making the game miserable for everyone.
I just hope Square will finally make some up to date shit to replace the GODAWFUL Mogstation. People can't even buy the damn game without going through paypal.
Next month, we may hear about Blizzard selling their now largely empty servers to Square Enix…
Did you forget that square already have mmo experience? DQ mmo and FF12
I've never seen one of your videos but I can't stop thinking you look like a buffer handsomer Topher Grace
I tried the free trial as I heard about it through this channel. And I'm enjoying the game, but when I went to purchase it, I cannot. Their site is bugged and their support team has yet to get back to me. I also cannot post on their forums or anywhere since I'm a trial account. A little research and I found people complaining about this over a year ago, but their fixes have not worked for me. Just be warned, buy the game and don't do the trial or you might lose all your progress as I have.
Their devs might care about the community, but whomever is running their store doesn't seem to.
The server stuff is absolutely not his fault and he is doing exactly what you are supposed to do in that specific situation but it's nice that he cares enough to apologize to those that don't know any better.
All I can think about as I watch this is: "Your inventory is almost full man."
Man if more mmo or game companies had the same dignity, honor and spine as half of the people working at square man that would be great.
But yeah no one could have seen this flood of new players so it´s understandable.
Honestly, I’m really excited that there is such a huge influx of players!
Nothing new from Yoshi-P his being doing this kind of personal thing since he started working on 14. Every since he first said sorry with almost heartbreaking sadness in his voice for problems with the English Realm Reborns beta servers I knew he was genuine.
There is no Road to level 70 buff anymore to new players in America
Europe has no road to 70 either…
Watching from the outside, will get back soon 🙂 been a while since I played. I'm happy the game is exploding in popularity.
They couldn't have predicted that Asmongold would ever give in and play their game given what he's said about it in the past. And let's face it, the massive influx of players happened right as he started streaming the game. Sure the population had been increasing as various content creators jumped on board but it was Asmon who caused it to explode.
Failing? oh wake up, no such term applies. There has been an increase in people coming to the game due to WoW's decline. There is no reason they should have to pay for server expansions in such excess of their projections, server expansions cost money. Get off the entitlement wagon. I could accept calling them failures if this happened at launch of a new expansion perhaps etc … Asmongold brought this on them.
They didn't actually tell the max amount of people logged in, if you read carefully they stated "to increase BY 18000". Implying that whatever the previous limit "n" was is now n+18000 simultaneous logins.
You do such a good job at breaking everything down.
I moved to FFXIV over a year ago, a really good friend got me to try it. Barely touched WoW anymore and I had been playing that since TBC, but had started losing a lot of faith in the company, their direction, their competency, etc. BFA was my last expansion. Honestly, I'm so glad I gave XIV a try, it has been such an amazing game, with such an amazing world and story. The community is so wholesome and kind that I almost got diabetes. WoW's story never once drew tears from me, or maybe once with Arthas' death, but I forget, but XIV's story can be completely heart wrenching to me, and I am someone who struggles to cry even if I want to, so the emotions are very welcome to me. I'm a happy catboy on Primal with many jobs at 80 now and working on DRK at the moment, also just finished the Manderville quests, what a hilarious time that was, the humor was so good, especially in the Heavansward line. The award-winning Heavensward expansion being available for free with a trial account that gets you up to level 60 with unlimited playtime in the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV!
cant even create an account on the website it always returns errors
I've been playing without problems this whole time, sometimes login time is longer, but it's ok.
if it was any other company its just corporate niceties. but yoshi p is legitamately an amazing person who has so much passion for the game and its community. he himself plays it in his spare time. he also has the track record to prove his loyalty to the fans. that being said if yoshi p says hes sorry its legit apology. just like square enix, i dont really question yoshi p anymore and kinda just let him do his thing. I trust him.
Short answer: yes it’s genuine.
I trust Yoshida san as a producer so I always belives him.
He cares about his fan base
He even plays the game and shares the same problem with the players
Click bait i was pissed when i read the headline luckily i actually watch videos before i say anything but be careful dude this is some blizzard garbage shit i hate to see dont question his sincerity its not blizzard even in clickbait form
Josh! I think there's a towel in your mug!
Why's there a balled up wacky tie in your coffee mug???
I lowkey want his coffee cup 😂
This letter really exemplifies the biggest contrast between WoW and FFXIV in the game, community, and even the internal company policy for the divisions.
What does WoW do? Stokes competition and animosity. You see it in the game, where the player is told to hate someone for some arbitrary reason on a constant basis to the point where the concept of "the nuclear option" is utilized for no other reason than to stoke that hatred. You see it in the community, where what should be a friendly rivalry between factions tends to degrade into some of the worst hostility (to the point of physical fights and criminal action occurs) around and is encouraged by the devs because "it brings energy to the game". And as we've seen recently an investigation into Activision-Blizzard is revealing that it occurs in their offices as well with ridicule, beratement, favoritism, and open hostility being celebrated in it. And that doesn't even get into the criminal activities that have been revealed.
Now look at FFXIV. One of the overriding themes is, and is even quoted in game is "we stand together" and it shows. In game, that characters see that hatred and division cause problems and working together despite their differences is important. Will you ever get 100% agreement? No, but you work together to find solutions. In the community, the dev team and the community work together, communicate to each other and treat each other with respect. Stuff that is used to stoke division like parsers is officially banned (basically, if you talk about using them in game will see your account locked) to prevent misuse in that regard. And as we've seen at the last fan-fest, the teams work together and instead of passing blame and infighting, there's taking responsibility for problems, even when the problem is "we're doing to well" and genuine friendship (if you watched the closing ceremony and weren't in tears you have no soul)
Basically, WoW is about tearing people apart and as a result has a very divisive player base. Whereas in 14 it's about working together and has a very positive community as a result.
It's amazing how Yoshi-P's apology to not being able to sell more copies of the game and earn more money is a million times better than Blizzard's apology to making a woman kill herself.
I love how there is a sock in your mug and you just hold it, never taking a sip out of it.
I kinda want to hop in and see what the game is all about. I'm not a huge MMO player, but I love FF and RPGs in general. But every time I've tried out an MMO I end do everything on my own anyway because no one wants to deal with a "Noob." Only exception was WoW way back in 2010 (something like that) when I joined just because my BF at the time asked me too.
This is all Blizzard's fault for failing so horribly with Shadowlands and, you know, current situation. If WoW wasn't so shit the poor man wouldn't have to feel so bad! 😂
I wish I could get into FFXIV, I would be so proud every time something like this happens…
7:20 – I don't know if you're familiar with the 'marginal gains' concept (I'm guessing probably yes) but Matthew Syed's book 'Black Box Thinking' is well worth a read. You seem more than savvy enough anyway but I think it's definitely one you'd enjoy.
You can see when ARR came back online years ago Yoshi p apologized for server congestion and started crying on stage apologizing and bowing
YoshiP is like an ultra Chad when it comes to game directors
Yoshi-P is the quintessential example of 'to lead is to serve' ethos. A great guy and visionary that has literally saved the online franchise. 👍
Even more people will quit WoW after the recent drama and I hope SE are ready to accomodate the exodus.
