The Moogle Treasure Trove of Mendacity starts up in FFXIV on Monday, but not every reward is worth farming Tomestones for. Some are better off simply being purchased from the marketboard or farming from the actual drop source.

Thanks so much for this guide. This seasonal event is always a mental nightmare.
I agree for the most part, but I hard disagree on the Ixion mount. I am in both hunt discords for Crystal and farmed the fate on my main and alts. If you do not have a lot of time to spend in game, farm for the tomes for the mount. It's a special fate and can take several days to spawn, and the time / location is random once it caps. I'd miss it several times because it would pop while I was out or at work, or while I was sleeping. It took me over a month to get the mount on my main just because trying to catch the window was near impossible for me, personally. Faloops is a great tool for tracking special fates and ranked monsters, and I do highly recommend the hunt discords.
I get just about all items, every time, on 3 different characters. Farming these tomestones isn't THAT bad.
Well, as someone mentioned, I would also disagree on Ixion. It may take even several days to get it, and Ixion fate also gives two other rewards (minion and barding), so it's actually good to spend tomestones while still keeping eye on Ixion fate to get everything from it.
As a collectioner I like to have all, and after playing 6k hours I do understand that Moogle Treasure Trove is mostly for Sprouts (aka, up to 1000 hours or so) as for veteran players there's hardly anything you won't already have. But I do remember fondly doing grind with other people in previous years 🙂
nightmare is up for grabs too and considering the low drop rate, might be worth grabbing

– Megalotragus Horn* (50) *if the price doesn't crash on the MB
– Magitek Predator Identification Key* (50) *can grind lvl 70 dungeon unsynced instead but may take hours
– Modern Aesthetics – Gyr Abanian Plait* (50) *if the price doesn't crash on the MB
– Ballroom Etiquette – Emphatic Elucidation* (30) *if the price doesn't crash on the MB
– Gaelicat Card* (10) *worth it if you collect Triple Triad cards
– Vanu Vanu Card* (10) *worth it if you collect Triple Triad cards
– Byakko Card* (7) *worth it if you collect Triple Triad cards
– Prometheus Card* (7) *worth it if you collect Triple Triad cards
– Wind-up Succubus* (7) *can get by joining Hunt Discord server, but very cheap here too

– Ixion Clarion* (50) *comes from a special FATE than can take several days to spawn, plus time/location is random; so skip the regular method if you don't have the time
– Nightmare Whistle* (30) *low drop rate
I bankrupted my WoL to get the Gyr Abanian Plait before making it into Stormblood. Absolutely worth it. 50 tomestones even more so.
If I were a Viera I’d still get the Gyr Abanian hairstyle, since SE is slowly making more hairstyles available to them.
a word on the Laurel Gobbue and Elbst: yes, you may help those two beast tribes at your own pace and you will hit the reputation threshold some day to earn their mounts.
but each ARR beast tribe mount (4 tribes; kobold tribe sells a palanquin and amal'ja sell a drake) robs you of 120k gil.
I'm a Sprout and just now finishing Stormblood. On my first ever run of the dungeon the Magitek Predator dropped and I won the roll. It was the first time I ever got passive aggressive responses from my pug mates. I got the "…" Followed by the "Enjoy the mount…
I guess." And a sigh and head shake emote. Lol the sad thing is I'm not even a fan of the mount.

Good list. I agree 100%. I just did 25x Alexander 1 runs to get the Predator and I’m buying the rest of MB. As a tank I get instant queues but the repetition damage to my brain is still significant. Never again! GL to all of you and happy grinding.

I vaguely recall the gyr abananian plait price crashing HARD the last time it was in a tomestone event (iirc together with form and function at the time) so,much like the megalotragus,wait this one out before deciding to get it with tomes if you can help it.
Edit:after watching the video,I can say,once youve cleared out the other stuff you really want,DO actually grab the map packs,guaranteed portal pops ,assuming you do map parties,will in fact accumulate a pretty penny.
Did I see the Nightmare mount on that list? My understanding is that its drop rate is ridiculously low. Or is that no longer true?

They should have added the Leviathan mount though. Can no longer count the number of times my WOL drowned due to the crappy mechanics and still no mount.
Agreed on the Ixion; I got it in 2 days last week.
A note that if you're planning on leveling crafters via Ishgardian restoration (which is the best and most efficient way to do it 21-80), don't waste your time on the skybuilder's scrip mounts, they're practically free through scrips.
… the cheap items like Long Fall and Hayate ballooned in price, sadly.
If you want them, youll be waiting for the end of the event it seems when people get bored and arent looking to capitalize on a surge of interest.
