Here are 5 reasons to pick Hrothgar in FFXIV! I chose Hrothgar first because it’s the race I have the most experience with. I chose this race 2 years ago and I never swapped away from it! Hrothgar is a very unique race in my opinion and I’m really glad they decided to add it to Final Fantasy XIV!

I picked hrothgar because I always lean toward the modest fierce looking races when making a character and I thought they looked better then roe.
I do enjoy Hrothgar players but I will never abandon my catboy.
I play Femroe. I used to play Viera because I wanted a race that was feminine but not overly cutesy like fem Au Ra, but I ended up finding Viera leaned too far into being proper and regal. Femroe is just the right amount of butch, closer to the vibes I wanted. I also like that Femroe has a few masculine-leaning voice options, as a transwoman it feels really validating.
Derplander bestlander 😀
i would 100% play a hroth if there was a female.
hoping for 7.0
I started as a female lalafel because I found them adorable and after thinking about other classes on them was funny but I switch to Au Ra cause I couldn't take the cutscenes seriously, then viera because they were new. But I ultimately went back because I like playing them and I wanted to go back.
I switched from Roe to Hrothgar when I restarted the game recently, and I have to admit I get far more tells as Hrothgar that's sooo true. I like Roe too, I'm tall IRL and choose big characters more often than the small characters, but Roe is just a bit too bulky imo if they had slimmer version but kept the height they'd be perfect. Hrothgar so far imo suffer from being hunched over, even though they can actually stand up straight ASF in some of the emotes.
Hrothgar unite!
As a Hrothgar player, it’s because they are stoic looking but can be really expressive when I want to. I don’t know why but I usually go towards the furry races. I guess it’s because they usually the most unique
Started as a fem Au ra, hated the attention. Switch male Derplander, guys have their struggles thats for sure, was very lonely. After that i switched to fem Lala, had alot of fun easy to make friends and talk to people. The perfect race for me tbh. I tried Fem Thighlander to see an older version of my lala and well I love her. I sometimes want to to switch back to lala but i like my thighlandet too and fantasias arent cheap q.q Its a good race to be when you dont necessarily seek snack attention but want to be female. People seem to be "intimidated " by highlanders and roes? 😅 Anyway ive tried just about every race including male Viera as alt. I do want to try Hroth but want to play as a female with that race once it happens… Ill just say people definitely treat you differently depending on the race you pick and gender also plays a role lol.
the moment female hrothgar comes out, the msq-gifted fantasia is coming out of the retainer inventory
I like hrothgar because I like they way they look, the fur patterns and they just look cute overall, I only had one bad experience where my FC dogged on me for it calling me a furry all the time but im use to it and now im a casual player now 😅
Your videos are really cool! Keep it up!
I picked up the Hrothgar after I got the ARR Fantasia because I didn’t like the look of any of the other races. Hyur and Roe’s have that ugly plastic looking ears. Elezen are boring. Lalafell’s are too tiny. And I hated the facial options of like 60-80% of all of the races, from eye shapes, markings, and even facial hair options. I honestly preferred the humanoid looks of other games over Ff14.
I've played Hrothgar starting this year
I before would just switched back and forth between races over these past 2 years
But one of the races I played more than others for more than 5 years with was Lalafell
Lalafell are alot of things cute most emotes are fun and energetic
The smallest race you can play in game
Scary on how much attention they get
Most people I've seen play Lalafell are smart
Alots of head pats I've had a group of people all gather around me to give head pats
Gear is all shaped the same and shoes are so small you barely see detail
Lalafells have an exclusive house in shadowbringers
Now to go over the many names the FF14 community have called Lalafell over the years
1# potato
2# dwarf
3# cabbage patch kid
4# kid
5# tribal person
6# midget
7# creepy
8# mini Elezen
9# cute
10# food
I NEED female hrothgar!
Most hrothgars are cool, but the other day I was a bit soured on them by having a tank in my dungeon that REFUSED to turn on their tank stance and had their starting gear as a level 60 GNB. That being said, my static has a cool hrothgar in it. I'm too comfortable in my race to change but if they added more hairstyles for hroth I might consider making an alt for one.
That being said, as a Male Plainsfolk Lalafel; we're not quite as common as you'd think for some reason. Maybe it's just me but when I'm in a dungeon or a trial, usually I'll see two lalafel max, even though I see them al the time in cities. I enjoy playing the race as a tank main because it just makes me feel like I'm overcoming the odds and I think it makes the bosses in the game feel all the more intimidating when they're five times my size or more. I notice as well that it's very easy to find kinship with other Lalafells for some reason. We do have a lot of strange uwu rp players but I've yet to run into a Lalafell that's started drama. I personally settled on Lalafell because I wanted to see what it was like to be short for a change. (I am moderately tall irl) Sometimes I wish I was playing a different race because full-armor glams don't look as cool as they would on a Hyur but I don't think I'll ever fantasia out of my race because it would ruin the backstory I have for my character.
The emotes and physique are actually a big part of why I like Hrothgar.
Also, they fill out most clothes quit well. The day hats like Lawless Enforcer
or Noir become available to Hrothgars will be the best day "in his Hrothgar's life so far".
Armorwise, I can confirm, there are
only a few that are really good (i.e. False Monarchy, helmet included).
I think our Hrothgars would get along very well. 👌
So far I have seen Hrothgar as being the nicest players and are most likely gay men and/or furries. If they could wear more hats, i would play my Hrothgar alt more lol
I started off as a female Lalafel, and Fantasia'd to other races a couple of times. I always end up coming back to Lala, there's something about being the smallest race and going through the game, that while at times is kind of funny because the camera angle makes your character just barely peek into the screen, they're very expressive all the while. Along with the fact you just feel so fast compared to the other races.
Big. Strong. Kind.
The perfect himbo.
Head empty. Mind pure.
I'm a miqote dude because I prefer to play characters that are similar to myself but i also really like animal features especially cats! If I was a bigger buffer dude irl, I'd probably play hrothgar but because I'm such a manlet I feel more immersed playing the smaller cat guy. I've also found miqote boys, despite being cats, to give off a friendly dog boy vibe as well and its just the right vibe for me.
When the bunboys were too pretty, and the hroths were too beefy, catboys were there for me, and the haters can make all the uwu, eRPer, etc, accusations they want, I love being a kittydude
I have a Hrothgar alt and it's always a joy to play him, love their animations
As for me, I play Min-height Lalafell!
Whenever I play games that have a character creator, I make my character the shortest they can go (because I find it funny when I'm super tiny compared to my friends)
Although I was initially thinking of being a Miqo'te, eventually went with Lalafell!
I guess if I had to list some pros/cons:
Pros:
– Great expressions and emote animations
– (for me) People petting me is great
– easy time seeing where I'm going (especially on jumping puzzles)
– Dwarven houses in Kholusia that only Lalafells can enter!
Cons:
– We attract a lot of negative attention in-game because we're small (the amount of times I've been slapped or kicked, though few, are still noticeable)
– Some gear (especially specific shoes) look awful
– Lack of face features (scars, facial hair for the male Lalafells besides a mustache or goatee/muttonchops compared to the other races)
Overall I greatly enjoy being a Lalafell despite the cons!
I was Miqo'te for so long and the cat daddies didn't seem like they were in the oven long enough. They felt unfinished. And all the negatives, the hunch, the hairstyles, the headpieces, the bulky wrists and hands, it made me not wanna switch.
But then I saw the emotes. Miqo'te are so performative. Everything they do, they do like they are on a stage. Hrothgar are the exact opposite. Unfiltered joy, sadness, anger. They seem clumsy and unrefined. Like big strong himbo cats. And I fell in love. I made the switch and never looked back.
The glamour endgame is savage because a lot of stuff just doesn't fit right. But it's a challenge I happily accept. The pets and hugs from strangers make it all worth it!
Very compelling arguments my sir, understandable 🙂
I myself started as Elezen on a whim (because elves cool) but I'm desperate for Fem Hroth announcement. I just wanna decide between the Hroths for my free Fantasia uwu
I think it's slowly changing, but for the vast portion of my gaming life there have been few opportunities to play tall muscular woman, so I jumped at the chance to play a Femroe and haven't changed since. Even as a little girl I had never ID'd with the cutesy girly stuff and with a Femroe I can really tomboy out, but also I've seen others pull off the beautiful/elegant look on my same roe model and it's awesome to behold. That being said, some clothing just doesn't sit right on a Femroe so I've had to put a little more effort into my glam game but I don't mind. I've also taken to just sitting down when friends show me their glams because my height makes it difficult to see their outfits properly, especially Lalafels, lol.
The only other player type I see even less than Femroes like myself are indeed the Hrothgar. I used to not mind how uncommon we are but as I grow more find of Femroes I'm starting to wish there were more of us. I get stupidly excited when I see another Femroe in a dungeon party and do get occasional dotes and loves from Femroes I run across in the wild. I also get random headpats from Lalafels which I find hilarious and it makes my day.
I mostly play viera (have been miqo for a while now sadly because of SE's treatment of bunny girls…) because I fell in love with them as a 12 years old playing FF Tactics A2… It is my most favorite race in the FF franchise. I'm a bit sad about what they did with them in XIV 🙁 no bunny feet, no wild hair (or I guess they did what they could), no dark spots on the ears… but they're still pretty good imo. Emotional attachment !
I love how fast your channel is growing! I watched every video since the very start and the weekly cadence surely hypes up the wait for your next upload.
With that being said, the reason I chose miqo'te as my race is that I love "Human-like" races with their twists on ears, horns, tails, etc… And I am also a cat person, so there's that!
Also, little extra, I chose female as gender because I like to play a good game with a good female protagonist (For example, Tomb Raider). I knew that my character would be silent but I also knew that I would be the one giving her her personality, like creating my own ideal version of a female protagonist. So I created my cozy, shy and introvert, Female Miqo'te, based around the blue color and it's different shades, kind and cute!
Why I play Hrothgar
*They reminded of the ronso from Final Fantasy 10, and the ronso were cool. Plus I can have a horn on my forehead. The only thing that would make it better is if I could head charge someone with it.
I play almost every race to a degree…
Main is a bun boy though simply because gender vibes.
But good points on ones i have:
Fem Roe: muscle lady, big but not too big.
Fem Highlander: also muscles, but more downplayed. Good faces.
Male Midlander: honestly a good balance of height and you get a muscle slider.
Fem Midlander: Can be really cute, actually. Also rarity points, since most hyurs are gonna be the other options.
Elezen (M+F): Elegant as long as you ignore the run animation – solved by drawing your weapon. Fashion model vibes
Lalafell (M+F): so cute. Also a tiny thing slaying gods is great
Male Viera: good range of gender expression possible. Leans feminine, but masc choices don't look out of place either.
Fem Viera: do you want to look like an instagram model? Do you want free 2b butt upon character creation? Jokes aside, also a solid choice for Tall Lady.
Male Au Ra: honestly, there's good variety once you past the edgy options… But if you do want to go edgy, it's hard to go wrong here
Fem Au Ra: also has edge potential, but also kawaii waifu material at the same time. Smol
Male Miqo'te: doesn't everyone like cat people to a degree? There's a reason they're popular after all. All kinds of armor suit them just fine, and prior to bun boys, had the most extra racial to dance
Fem Miqo'te: again, cat people. Good, expressive animations too
Male Hroth: fluffy… I like cats, shut up.
(Fem Hroth summoning noises)
Intriguingly, if you ask most of us why we play hrothgar is not for any of these reasons.
There's really cool fc on my home world that is pretty much all Hrothgar. They are all very pretty. I play cat Boi cause I'm too chicken to be Kat man. And seeker of the sun has a really good skin tone shade range compared to moon kitties. I do like the moon Kat fangs though.
I love this Video Hesken!! It was fantastic and super fun! Totally looking forward to if you do the other races too! 😃
Also Q. will you do a Version on Lion Women when they come out?
I love seeing hrothgars in primal. They tend to have some pretty cool glams. Also congrats on the subs.
Now, to your request, I play roegadyn because they're big and buff. I also like how they stand over most other characters. Though, as a funny story, I thought every npc in game was a lot younger because my roe was a giant compared to all of them XD
I’m a Male Roe and largely the part I enjoy the most about it are how large we are. People can SEE what I’m wearing. I find myself drawn to looking at the glam of F+M Roe and Hrothgars because I actually notice the details of it
Also I wanted to play not like, FULL human but like something slightly off of it. My WoL was supposed to be Me But in a Fantasy WorldTM, but now he’s his own character and I love him.
Other positives are the lore being really neat imo (Hellsguard and Lalafells bonded GREATLY because how proficient one another were with magic, a BIG Brawny race being good with magic is great)
The main dislike though is MRoe emotes are so… not great LMAO. /dance and dote/blow kiss are the big two I don’t like.
Oh and also one more reason I like them
Big men and woman are hot
I play Viera because of FF12. Also tall 🐇
The moment I upgraded from free trail to Shadowbringers I immediately went Catgar. The "no-brain" look that radiates big Labrador-energy, yet you are a big cat-man, is just the best and I just love it. I do dislike the bad posture and lack of head-gear that shows up when equipped. I just love to be a big cat-man and I like how they stand out as being a genuine non-human race. I do wish there was more beastial races though. But I can see past that. One of my favourite things to do when i meet another Catgar is to run up, boop their snoot with my macro, pet and print screen their adventurer plate. I will do this in cities, overworld, dungeons, raids and trails. Before I even cast my first spell, I will have given each and every Catgar the attention they deserve!
I also agree that Catgars gets a lot of attention. Especially from other Catgars. And I agree that there aren't many of us, but that just means it is a good run in daily roulette when another Catgar(s) show up! And yes, it is an even better ay when they return my pets and snoot-boops
I do wish that Catgars (and by extension, Viera) would get more attention from the developers though when it comes to customization and head-gear. Seriously, I was appalled by the Ear-incident when they gave us more haircuts. I also get annoyed that it is a 50/50 chance of the new dungeon/raid gear being wearable for Catgars or not.
I play Hrothgar because like others have said, I avoid playing humans as often as I can since I'm a human everyday IRL, and they are much less "standard fantasy fare" than the others. My alts are a Male Roe and a Male Au Ra. I like the big guys, what can I say? 😀
Also not being able to wear so many of the hats, makes finding one we can actually wear instantly start a long session at the glamour dresser to plan a new outfit around it.
Hrotgar's my weirdest bonner thats why i like this race jk jk
I play a Hrothgar and had been one since Shadowbringers. I love their cuteness and emotes. Not a fan of the hunch or the racial hair being tied to the face still, but as you said they are fixing that, albeit slowly. The reason I am a Hrothgar is that I want to play a beast race, I love beast races and that is always my choice in every MMO I play. I only like playing female beasts, so when I saw Hrothgar being male-only, I thought about just quitting, cause instead of a cool female best we got another human with animal years… great. In the end, I just made a male that is wearing solely dresses to look as feminine as possible. But needless to say, I really want female Hrothgar in the game as soon as possible.
For your request: I am male mi'qote because I feel a bit of kinship with cats and am male myself.
Used to mainly play as male Miqo'te during Stormblood before changing to Hrothgar when early access came out. While it was annoying to have had to use fantasia in order to change the hair that belonged to the same face, I'm glad that's over now.
While there were times I changed back and forth between the two races. It did become rare for me nowadays to change back to Miqo'te.
Like I love how their adorable their eyes look when they target someone (I think sideways and diagonal?). As well as the fur patterns adding some flavor to certain clothing items like sleeveless ones.
But do kind of wish they have more color options available as I think the number of combinations has kind of gotten smaller over time.
While I do play on two regional dc's I would say you can most likely encounter them in some of the worlds in Primal's Limsa Lominsa. But the biggest amount I have seen would have been in venue's.
I play female Miqo because I've found they fit my expressive personality quite well. Lalafell comes to a close second.
Fancy Hroths are the best, they just look sooo dapper.
I'd love to be a fem hrothgar if not for the whole hair/hat thing.
I used to be lalafell, but changed to max height femroe for a few reasons.
1. They stand out more. Once I hit true end game (glamours) this became important. Especially when I want to make something cursed to wear. >:3
2. Because the warrior of light is this bigger than life living legend, being a 7′3″ gentle giant made the most sense to me. Major main character vibes when everyone have to look up to you, both literally and figuratively. 😀
3. While lalas are cute, I felt like I needed something more versatile emote wise. Femroes, in my opinion, have a wide variety in their emotes, ranging from badass to adorable.
I personally play as a female Miqote as my main (after male Roe for a long time as well as a male Miqote for a litle bit as well). I've honestly not really thought the exact reason why, but I think it may just be because Miqote are a nice middle ground between "too basic human" and "too beastial" for my personal tastes.
Not to mention that as an "alt-oholic" I have access to a female Au Ra, Roegadyn and Viera and a male Lalafell in case I want something different to look at. Only reason that I don't have a Hroth alt is that their hair situation just saddens me as a frequent customer of Jandelaine.
