Early Review of Final Fantasy 14. It was not what I expected, and I’m so glad I tried it.

As a longtime veteran, welcome to the fold.
A bit of advice though. I understand the want for B roll, but you may want to stop… Alot of video from scenes further in the game spoil alot. ESPECIALLY the the trailer for Heavensward. If you care anything about stories in games, DO NOT WATCH the trailer for Heavensward!!!!!!
I see Catboy, i like.
Welcome, my friend. Enjoy the ride, and i hope you have fun and make lots of friends. We welcome you with open arms
Welcome!!
"40 hrs in" I didn't expect to see spoilers, lol. I'm in post-endwalker patches, and am avoiding the dawntrail trailer till I get there. Not 100% sure that's what I was seeing in the vid, but it looked new, so I'm out
Though I wouldn't say it's the best MMO, the story alone will stay with you forever. It's not something you go through and forget. I keep thinking about it even though I'm not playing FF14 much anymore these days.
Welcome to Eorzea!
Can confirm that combat overall does get more intense and faster, more off global cool down abilities to weave in. But also the 'dance' gets more and more intricate. Yet other then some unique scenario solo duties, the difficulty never seems to high.
Really good video. I too am experiencing the early game slog and came to get some inspiration to keep going because I desperately want to experience this amazing story everyone always goes on about. Glad to hear that the voice acting eventually picks up because, as much as much as I love classic final fantasy text based stories, it will always be better with a good voice cast. It’s just human nature to connect more with a voice than reading text. I’m excited to push my hyur lancer further and experience this game.
Hope you'll enjoy the ride. 😁
For all its peaks and valleys, hope you enjoy the journey.
The early going in the game is definitely a slog, but compared to others MMOs its not too bad i think. The combat also won't start to feel "good" until lv 60 for most jobs, which for new players can feel a real ways off lol
Also, if youre still in 2.0 areas, know that they'll be getting the graphics update treatment in just a few days! Will def be good for new players
I think one point I would clarify on, the MSQ can feel like a prolonged tutorial, but its not. The game simply has an extremely casual, Story first approach for the MSQ. it can be annoying that ultimately all the gameplay features are locked behind it, so you feel like you need to progress through it to get to the content you want, but ultimately, at level 10 or level 100, the MSQ functions more or less the game, just modernized in terms of animations, voice acting, etc.
The story is worth playing through, not saying its bad, but I just got the vibe you're waiting for the game to "open up" and let you freely roam and explore the world without the MSQ being in the way, but that really doesn't happen until you catch up to the MSQ, it'll always be blocking some content off from you until its fully completed.
Something people don't really comment much on, but I absolutely adore coming from WoW where it really wasn't the case, I love that in FFXIV, content is never obsolete. You can put modifiers on your party to throttle your Item level, or sync down to the level of the content to experience it "mostly" as it was back in the day. You can get a group of people together and go progress through Savage raid fights from 8 years ago, and the game fully supports this, which I think is really cool o/
