15 Years of WoW vs 1 Year of FFXIV

I’m often asked about the differences between WoW and FFXIV, so I decided to make a video detailing what sets each game apart from the other.
Special thank you to everyone who helped me on stream with script writing, to all the fans of both games who gave me feedback, and to the amazing youtubers who’s clips I’ve used. They can be found in order below:

  1. That's nice to hear. In SWTOR, chat is generally helpful, depending on what time of day it is. The disruptive/memery/political chat is termed "Dromund Kaas chat". It's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. Reese's PB, or coconut.

  2. Comment in Short: That Video is perfect, WoW and FF14 are the both sides of a coin and I hope the Scene before the EndCard is in FF14!

So I understand it that way that in WoW, even if we Players save the Worlds in the End we aren't even Part in the Lore or animations but in FF14 The Player IS important in the Lore.

Okay after 7 Minutes I understand in WoW the Gameplay is the important part but not the Story. It only is there for the reason of the gameplay. But FF14 is the totally difference. It is about the Story and the Gameplay is only there to get more far into the Story. It isn't needed in the end. That is both crazy and smart at the same time. WoW and FF14 aren't just rivals they are the two sides of the same coin. If they would fuse it could create the perfect game ever! lol but they can't fuse because they are at the same time totally different.

Only a little close to the middle of the Video and I must say it is so far the perfect description for both games. The Genre names, the first 3 letters are the important part of the games. In WoW it is MMO and in FF14 it is RPG! So it is wrong that all the time people sell FF14 as MMO while it is more an RPG!

I wanted to sleep but the Video is still not in the middle and I always stop it to talk to myself how that Video not even blows my mind, it also F**ks it so well made it is! Damn! I see that you love both games. No I even feel it!

I even learn here why I still love WoW so much. lol

After rehearing some other Battle theme songs even them for Final Expansion bosses WoW Music mostly only ambient. The character of the music is the situation or the place but not the enemy or the battle against this enemy. But it is still awesome!

    ETC was Always Epic!!!

Toxic based on the game is okay but this hate against Blizzard lately is no longer normal… But besides that I see the community mostly as friendly. Like when the players stand in a row to wait for a NPC to spawn. I never saw that or heard about that in other games.

Hunt Train reminds me on Oondasta from Pandaria before it got nerfed. When people needed 2 Raids to kill it.

OMG.. When I said something like "We can do that" in PvP Raids or LFR in WoW I get mostly hate or no reaction. I think I would fall in love with the FF14 Community! D: but… I think in Germany they still will be toxic. Because of Germany …

What the f**k was that Video before the EndCard?! Please tell me that is a scene ingame!

  3. ok, question though. In Wow, I don't have to see other people's damage on the target. FF14 here looks like it's showing too much going on at the target. Like it's showing everyone's damage occurring. Too much graphics clutter, emotes, and what is with the giant pink knift looking icon above things heads, and a circular arrow icon above that? Again, too much clutter. Can you turn this off and ONLY have your damage showing, and ONLY have a ring around the targets feet? Will I be able to turn off the big pink knife and circular arrows?

Another thing. I play MMO type games for gear. To make my character more power over time. So FF14 doesn't give you a casual steady way to get better gear?

  4. The company running final fantasy 14 is junk, there are massive problems with signing up for an account. What are they? Not accepting emails, not giving correct codes, massive issues with setting an account up, too picky in wording, and endless maintenance on their crappy site. Ignoring support requests. The game and company is JUNK.

  5. WoW playerbase is "toxic" because blizzard has fostered an audience of crybabies and bullies who have demands on the game giving them what they need faster and with less work while also expecting to be praised to high heavens for doing barely anything. They are spolied assholes but it didnt happen over night. When the game was difficult to the point you had to EAT in between single mobs to not risk running out of mana or just pulling a wadering second mob and getting killed, back when you had to CC the damn pack to stand a chance of killing TRASH on the way to boss which HAD TO be done perfectly… Back then… you had people be nice to their own faction, feel that "were all in this together" but now, everything is braindead easy and you got a bunch of divas running around with their store bought character thinking they are the bees knees and fuck everyone else. Thats how communities become hostile to their own faction… Because blizzard allowed them to be able to fake their win in a dick measuring contest and made their dicks automatically 12 inches long without doing anything so they think they are big playas!

  6. PSA: You can buy a full ass story skip, then just watch all the Important/ALL of the cutscenes in your Inn like I did. Its separated in neat little episodes and chapters and everything. If you just really REALLY hate the story/leveling process cause the beginning can be a slog. (I skipped ARR, played the rest). Watched all the ARR cutscenes/story bits in the Inn book.

  7. I normally listen to an entire video before making a comment, but if I don't pause the video(14:30) and type something now, I will forget what I am currently thinking about later…

I fucking loved my time playing FF14, all five or so hours of it because of the focus on the world and the story around my character. My problem ended being how what I wanted from the game started to backfire. I am strange in that I play MMORPGs by myself because of all the good stories inside of them, I don't play them to play with other people. So when FF14 forced me to have to group with other players in order to continue any story or ability to quest, things fell apart for me. The story was all about my character and how they were becoming a part of this world, only for the game to remember that it is online and there are dungeons that require groups of players to do.

I don't believe I have ever been thrown against a brick wall so hard before in any other online RPG, including WoW. In WoW, each zone tends to have its own individual story that ends with a dungeon needing a group of players, but I could just watch a video about what happens in the dungeon and move onto the story in a different zone. You can't do that in FF14, or at least what I noticed up to level 30. Each zone might have a couple miscellaneous quests to do, but there is no story to the zone aside from the MSQ, or Main Story Quest. When I asked a friend if it was just the one or two dungeons to introduce the grouping mechanic, he said dungeons happen often throughout the MSQ, and it took the wind out of my sails completely to keep putting effort into the game.

The reason I bring this up is because it is my main, and so far only issue with Jesse's point of his video so far. The beginning may be slow or considered a problem to a majority of players, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Calling it a shame just struck me personally because I valued that in-depth narrative far more than any other aspect of the game.

I'll go back to watching the rest of the video now. Had to get that off my chest while it was still fresh in my mind.

  8. Having finished the video now and gathered my thoughts, I can post an actual comment on the video instead of just on a single moment.

I say this as someone who experiences this myself, but it kind of sounds like Jesse is commenting on the two games based with a bit of biased. He sees WoWs with jaded and thoroughly experienced eyes, whereas he is still playing FF14 with a fairly fresh slate. It's not a bad thing, but it is something to consider when Jesse praises or condemns the different features.

For example, one of the points that made me think was how music influences story in the two games, how it brings out different emotions. I thought about different moments in WoW that moved me, but couldn't think of the music behind them. Was there really uninspired music to those moments, or am I jaded in those regards like I accuse Jesse of potentially being? It makes me wonder what the truth is and that I should go back to experience these moments again with my attention on the music. The sorrow I felt when Varian and Vol'jin die at the beginning of Legion, the anger at… Well any moment with Garrosh after Cataclysm. Did music have any impact on these emotions?

This train of thought lead me to the conclusion that while I don't agree with all of Jesse's points, they certainly made me think on my own experiences. Bringing up so much self-reflection in my own experiences between the two games definitely earned my respect and will be happy to share the video with friends.

Who knows, maybe I can put aside my bullshit of not wanting to play with other players despite playing an online RPG long enough to give FF14 a go again. Jesse's video certainly put that option on the table for me again.

  9. I'm sorry, I'm still not convinced. The world just looks silly to me. To each their own. If you like FFXIV, go for it and enjoy it but that world just isn't for everyone. To me, I don't get any sense of gravitas from the world of FFXIV and I don't feel compelled to immerse myself in it. It's a shame because I am legitimately looking for something to replace WoW but this just doesn't feel like what I was looking for. I guess I'll keep looking.

  10. For that one person wondering.
The song that that played as he spoke bout the community is called Vamo alla flamengo.
It was first Introunced in ff9 during the starting part.

    Sorry for bad grammar btw

  12. One of the biggest things that killed wow for me was anxiety. I am not good at the game and that constant judging killed me. It made my too anxious to do dungeons at all. When wow introduced dungeons you had to do to complete the story I basically had to spend an hour getting myself in the right mental state. And basically reasearching every little thing about the dungeon. It was hell for me. Meanwhile in FFXIV I love doing dungeons. And there was one time I screwed up massively and the party was nice. I don't think I can go back to WOW at all after this

  13. WoWs flying alone is a big reason I got sick of the game. Older expansions just let you fly at max level but now it's just another excuse to waste my time and make all the other grinding for dailies slower.

  14. This is such an amazing video. I am playing wow for the story.. and I've grown up with it since I was 5. That's why it's so hard to leave. I'm so so ATTATCHED to characters like sylvanas. But this video makes me think FFXIV is the better choice…
