Fish: Sil’dihn’s Remorse
Location: Central Thanalan
Hole: Lower Soot Creek
Bait: Crayfish Ball
Conditions: O:10-O:15, Clear Skies into Fog
Folklore Book: N/A
Min Gathering: 400
📋Window Prep
Arrive to Lower Soot Creek and cast out with Crayfish Ball, catch and Surface Slap any of the ! or !! bites, then use Surface Slap and Chum. Ideally, any fish that isn’t Slime King or Maiden Carp are ideal slaps, but if you’re pressed for time any of the ! or !! bites work.
🎣Catching
Once the window opens, cast out. You basically get a chance at this fish ONCE per window, and it isn’t the most common (which is why it probably eluded us for so long). If you’re lucky and do get a !!! bite, use hook to catch it. (This took me weeks to get a bite on camera and it was a scuffed run, hence the lack of slap and chum in the window.)
Congratulations you got one of a fish that literally contributes to nothing but lore.
📚How do you know the conditions with minimal testing?
This one was actually discovered in the lore! I worked with @EinDose and Carbuncle Plushy to identify the fish’s conditions from hints in the lore, so I had a rough idea of what to expect and where to look. Still took a while due to the small window.
Its description holds a fun lore story:
“When the Trader’s Spurn was released into Sil’dih, none were spared its zombifying effects: not even the fish. Remaining undiscovered for centuries, this pescatarian’s nightmare has lurked in the waters near Sil’dih’s ruins, watching as Ul’dah’s alliance with the Amal’jaa grew and declined. It saw the Syndicate grow in power, and the Empire gradually encroach on Eorzean shores. It watched as Dalamud’s fall caused the mass migration of its less-undead trout cousins, and the Manderville family’s very unsuspicious rise to power after Eolande Quiveron’s death. Some say it lies in wait of the end of days itself… except they don’t say that, because it was undiscovered until now.”
Good luck and happy fishing!
