  1. I think I must have gotten super lucky with the group that I first did the Praetorium with, they were obviously a bunch of veterans but we still did most of it legit, killing all the adds and they were good about waiting for the newbies. It was actually very funny, you could see that there was a group of friends in the party and they were clearly having fun with each other, spelling out things with the optional raid markers (like making the ground say CID when Cid comes through the wall). It was very funny!

EDIT: As someone who's still a sprout but recently popped off the free trial, one of the things I did to try to keep my gil amounts under the cap so I had room for quest reward gil was buying Ghysal Greens for my chocobo, since you can stack up to 999 of those and they'll definitely be useful. Hold on to any of those bronze/silver/gold pieces you get in the inventory since their only purpose is to convert to gil. I also found when I started leveling up my crafting/gathering classes (I did all three gathering classes and the goldsmith crafting class up to 60 on the free trial) I had places where I needed to go buy gear from NPCs to keep pace, and that was a good little free-trial gil sink for me as well.

As tempting as it was to think about leveling every crafter/gatherer job to 60 for free on the trial, eventually I found I was really running out of inventory slots and that was what really convinced me to swap over to the full version, since you're able to get two "retainers" to hold more of your stuff once you're not on trial anymore. But yeah, I know you said you were doing botanist things already but if you've got an interest in trying out crafting or the other gathering classes on the trial, it can be a good thing to put some gil towards to keep you under the cap!

  3. The next bit – the last part of the transition from 2.x to 3.0 – is widely considered the weakest part of the game. Once you're past that, however, things just pretty much keep getting more awesome and they never stop improving.

  4. They have something that heavily references Gundam in the new expansion so no one would blame you lol
Final Fantasy(even the original ones) is partially based on Star Wars. That's why Biggs and Wedge exist.

  5. I love seeing your progress!!
If you're enjoying the story, I highly recommend looking into the Hildebrand quest line! It's an amusing side-story. Also, I do reccomend taking the time to complete the story that surrounds The Binding Coils of Bahamut, it gives a special depth to specific characters as well as enrich a storyline that otherwise sort of felt like a loose end.
Look forward to your next video!

  6. The Dev team for FFXIV (and the whole franchise) are some of the biggest nerds in the world, they love their references to pop culture; so Star Wars, Star Trek and Stargate are just the tip of the iceberg; including references to older Final Fantasy games and other Square Enix properties. For example, Koji Fox (one of the lead localizers) is a big fan of Puns and you may have noticed many Quests or F.A.T.E. names are references to Pop Culture (music, tv programmes, movies, etc).

As for content starting at Lv.50, regretfully you will be seeing a pattern with players trying to rush through the content to get to the end of the Raid or Dungeon (as for most of them it's become part of their daily grind for tokens for Lv.50/60/70 gear)… I'd recommend to comment in party chat that you are new or this is the first time running this instance and would like to run it slow as you are new to the game; the grand majority of players are very accommodating to requests, as we all remember our first times going through the story and would hate to rob someone else of the experience.

Thanks again for sharing your adventure in Eorzea with us!

  7. Welcome to FFXIV Ocean! Which FFXIV server and data center are you on?
In order to test new skills or refine old ones you can use a target dummy in any of the housing areas or in various parts of the world. Another way to level alt jobs and practice skills is to unlock the Palace of the Dead (PoTD). You can unlock PoTD as early as lvl 17 in Gridania near the Adventure's guild. PoTD allows you to take any battle job up through a 100 level instance 10 levels at a time. You get exp for clearing each 10 levels plus some exp for each mob in the lower levels; but you can automatically use any skills for level you are within the PoTD instance (leveling in PoTD is not linked with normal leveling), even those skills that haven't been unlocked yet so you can get a feel for how they work. From lvl 61+ there is another similar dungeon called Heaven on High (HoH) in the Stormblood areas.

  8. As you go into higher level dungeons, parties may begin to pull 2 to 3 groups of mobs at a time. If you are in a dungeon for the first time or aren't quite geared to level as a healer let the party know and they will generally take their time. When you are more comfortable, let them know and they will pick up the pace a bit.
Also, if you apply Regen or similar healing over time spells to a tank before a pull untagged mobs will most likely aggro to you. I generally wait until after the tank has established enmity with the mobs (except maybe bosses) before applying any form of healing on a tank.

  9. Also ur gonna run prae so many times ull be sick of it. People use it as a way to eat of chill out. Not all content will be like this so don't dwell on this one too much. You'll love what is in store for the future of playing

  10. I have to say it's fascinating seeing the transition from WoW to FFXIV, as a player of only the latter. It really shows you're enjoying the game and it's a joy watching these videos.
It's just such a shame you didn't share your experience through dungeons and trials during your early adventure! I think that's where the meat of the social interactions are and where you might be pressed to learn your healer class.
Cheers and thanks for the fun!

  11. quick tip, holding x makes every name plate of other PC's disappear and also makes them unclickable so if theres people crowding an NPC or object that you cant get to normally, hold x and you'll be good!

also, all ARR MSQ 8man content is that way because most people are vastly over-item leveled and unfortunately with the progression and level cap changes with the life of the game its made that content obsolete and a formality. Once you get into HS it's not like that at all, HS is honestly where i got very invested with the story. The dragonsong war will forever be something I remember.

  12. Veteran FFXIV player here! It's always great to see WoW players migrate and love the game, it is a fantastic game. Also a WHM main as well so if you have any questions on the job I'd be happy to give some advice. Glad you're enjoying the game so much, it only gets better from here on out! 😁 Welcome to the family!! Good luck!

  13. To help interacting with the world without being bothered with the other players there is a keybind on numpad+0 that will :
    – select the first interactive object in the cone of vision if none is selected
    – use a selected interactive object if any
    – activate the selected menu option

basically if you spam numpad-0 near the teleportation button in the praetorium you will select it, open the invite, and press OK all just with one button. That helps a lot
In case the key bind is not correct or needs change : Key binds > System > Confirm

  14. Welcome to the game! It kills me watching you and unable to answer your questions as you experience the issues lol. The post ARR quests up until HW was all added over a 2 year time period to keep players happy until the first expansion was released. They have since shortened the quests but it’s still annoyingly long. They have since started a development schedule so every so many months there will be a patch with new content. They have live letters with the producer and even showcases telling us what is coming. In may we have our digital fan fest which is our version of blizzcon which will be showing us more of what’s to come in the game. Also I’m sure it’s been said a million times but first time doing any group content just state that you are new and if you need to know anything. Most are willing to tell you. Whm gets massively better also which is my main. Have fun!

  15. 14:10 FF14's friendly community is what I love the most about this MMORPG. And I try all the time to be the friendly platform as well, and make an effort to be as welcoming as I was as well. Paying it forward so-to-speak.

  17. Unfortunately most people doing Castrum Meridianum or The Praetorium speed run those both because those are the only Dungeons where players are forced to watch the cutscenes.. It used to be much worse back in the day people skipped cutscenes and left you behind too.. Even speed running these dungeons still takes awhile it does give a good amount of Allagan Tomestone of Poetics though.. Props to the guy who helped you both i sometimes missed that part too..

  18. Running The Prae with 3500 HP? I bet you were popular lol. But yes, exactly as everyone else is saying, those two dungeons at the end of ARR are pretty unique. Which is probably why the devs made them the source of once a day exp boosts for people past that point. With a 'preferred world' 90 day boost on your character, The Praetorium can give TWO full levels to a job between level 60-70 depending on Challenge Log bonuses and exp buffs.

  19. You'll love using Holy. The gear Raya gives you is the gear you see in the story opening cutscene.
It is unfortunate that new players sometimes get forced to run new content with people that have done it dozens of times and are just in a hurry to complete it. It can be helpful to use the party finder and ask for a nice, slow run as you've never done it before. It'll take a while, but some folks will join you.

  20. Just found your channel and I was in very much the same boat when I started. I can't go back to WoW now. I'm towards the end of Shadowbringers and my god. I've personally been sold since the beginning of HW.

New sub here! Can't wait to watch your journey!

  21. I was very lucky in that I progressed through the story with three other IRL friends, and we were guided by two other friends who were veterans in the game. For Cape Westwind, Praetorium, and Meridianum we ended up running them undersized (so a 6 person party instead of 8) and minimum item level (to add some challenge), which was honestly awesome. It makes them feel much more like interesting content, and there was no pressure since we didn't have to worry about impatient randos.

  22. I love this community. The way people are willing to help each other us why instances didn't kill social interaction like it did in wow. I tried playing wow for a bit and whenever I'd get confused in a dungeon I'd just get kicked out. It's like people are so focused on maximizing farm that they don't even have fun.

  23. Hehe, I am glad you are having fun with the game and yes…the Praetorium…OMG, people (including me) just want to get over with as fast as possible. Kind of sucks for newbies but yeah, that one is a big time waster for most people and run it just because of the rewards/EXP. The good news is that there is only two MSQ's like that in the entire game. 😀
PS: I always go down the elevator with the newbies because they don't realize they need the key for the Armor! Not their fault hehe 🙂

  24. I wanted to kind of mention what you talked about for max-level content – that's the '2.x' sets of content. What happens in FFXIV is that they release the big expansion and that's the x.0 bit of content; on release, ARR was jsut the start of the game to the end of the Ultimate Weapon quest. You were getting into patch content, where they release a batch of quests every three months that continues the story, alongside other sets of side content – notably raids every even patch, 24-person raids every odd.

So for example, on beating the Praetorium in 2.0, you had the Binding Coil of Bahamut, levequests, and a couple of 4-person dungeons at level 50 to do. Then 2.1 would ahve released, putting out a bunch more MSQ, releasing the Thornmarch 8-person fight, plus other features – then 2.2 releases the Second Coil of Bahamut, and so on.

There's actually a fun little way to tell where each 'batch' of patch MSQ ends; you get a little achievement for clearing each section of the story, and there's a handful of cutscenes that show the villains plotting their things… it's like if you were watching a whole season of TV back-to-back, and seeing all of the stingers and cliffhanger moments.
