  1. Learn the 4 atonement fof rotation as soon as possible, it makes it less punishing if you miss the 11th gcd as it won't be goring blade and it's easier than readjusting later

  2. Paladin is my main, and its definitely an interesting tank with SOME quirky issues.
Cover is just… bleh, it needs a bit of a rework. Atonement is a very odd design system, hopefully the get a "burn" GCD, that uses all Sword Oath stacks, to make adjustments better.
Goring and Holy Spirit need buffs to be a lot more important in the rotation too.
But its still just so fun, and its quite flexible, especially with pushing around Requiescat during a fight to keep uptime.

  3. PLD has one of the highest skill ceilings of all jobs in ffxiv and has rightly earned the name spreadsheet tank. Check out the delayed FoF PLD rotation for P1 of TEA as example (early e11s optimization gcd maps were pretty crazy as well): https://imgur.com/P2fJDLe

It's a lot of fun to execute correctly, but can be maddening if you don't know if the fight well or if it has weird disengagements.

  4. I love PLD! I can't play it very well and I believe it takes a while to optimise it vs other tank jobs, but it feels very satisfying to play. I also love the fact that there's a mix of melee and magic: I remember it being quite handy in e6s for example (I haven't tanked in eden's verse yet). I can't already wait to see what Square Enix will do with EW as PLD is the job on the cover of the next expansion!

  5. For me paladin is the only true tank xD and the warrior and drk got gutted in earlier expansion XD and then last 🤣 the tank wannabee gunbreaker wit the flashy combo's XD with mediocre damage midigation and self sustaining actions XD

  6. Welcome to the hell that is Paladin xD

No but it's seriously probably the most fun tank to optimize at high level play. He tends to be harder to fit your rotation with the flow of fights but once you get it, it can feel really rewarding. Often times until you master that process you feel like it's a lot of risk reward tho especially with getting used to the delay and timing to get in the 2nd goring blade in FoF window. The shifted rotation can also feel really wack sometimes. Enjoy yourself tho man!

  7. Paladins are awesome for 5man content, the best IMO. Yeah, yeah, WAR and GNB puts out slightly more DPS that isn't going to matter that much in the clear time of a Level 80 5man, but yet… PLDs are more fun to play, at least for me. GNBs and WARs are basically DPS with high defense and boring rotations, you do the same thing over and over again and outside of one or two skills that you can use on your party members, it's nice to have an actual, real tank with actual skills to come to your party members' aid. It's far better for doing randoms with, and I have saved countless lives with Clemency and Cover. It feels awesome to dump a cover on someone who's going to die in a second or two and save their life. It's awesome to throw Clemency on that half-dead healer who's about to get wrecked, or heck, taking a boss from 50% to 0% after the healer face-planted with no SMN or RDM in the group with just Clemency and your other skills. No other tank can do this consistently and as well as PLD can.

  8. I'm a war main myself and i suffer from high ping which doesn't let me comfortably double weave (which kinda cuts off my access to a lot of classes tbh) and i have been fiddling around with pld as well the past 2 months or so. It's definitely a weird experience. I found myself losing track of my gcds just reading mechanics' names as opposed to the muscle memory i developed with warrior (nearly 1.8k hours on it alone). Plus lacking the hard burst that comes with warrior means you get hurt by downtime harder. I did end up going back to warrior cause of meld issues with PLD which is just something i hope SE addresses in the future as it kinda frustrates me to redo my melds every few days just to play pld for a couple of hours

  9. People say GNB is badass cuz skills are similiar to Squall.. but PLD has Confiteor that basically is a Holy Knight/Sword Saint ability, and you know who use them? Yes the most badass character in FF history, our lord Thunder God Cid 😍
