In this christmas episode, Y'shtola provides the fire.
Rip Magnai, he never scored.
Y'shtola, master of The Burn (Savage).
Y'shtola straight up murdered that man
Oh! This episode has my favorite line in the entire game so far in it. Little Sun indeed hehe. The absolute best smackdown.
I still really want to know why Nhaama's statue is collapsed and half buried, and also so much smaller than Azim's, and why Azim's seems like it was originally built with the intention of people living on it while here's was not. It's an unimportant bit of lore for sure, but man I am so curious all the same.
Happy Starlight, Playfriends! Head on over to Gridania and help a homesick kid get through this holiday season! You get your very own Saint of Nymeia costume! This is your spoiler free lore comment.
4:48 – This is a big change from where the Eorzean Alliance started. From an organization founded to defend against Ala Mhigan aggression to one including Ala Mhigo as its front line against Garlemald.
13:25 – Hien's actions here seeks to create another alliance in the east, sandwiching the Garleans between two hostile groups. But this also gives the East a similar bargaining level as Eorzea. Any victories or negotiations that the Eorzean Alliance makes, this Easter Alliance would be able to coordinate and share in that fortune. But Alisaie is right, the East needs a defense so that they can organize, and Doma's practice of starting fires in the Garlean provinces is yielding diminishing gains.
29:55 – So we have an explanation of The Burn's existence. Not only was the land sundered to produce the floating continent of Azys La, the regulation here in the Azim Steppe has prevented aether from flowing into the Burn, resulting in its drained state.
34:15 – All Sadu wants for Starlight is Durmin. Well, Durmin's attention in a fight.
36:10 – This is one of the most famous solo duties in all of Stormblood, perhaps all of FFXIV. Part one is an intensive duel against Sadu. She regenerates her health bar multiple times, similar to the Dotharl belief of warriors reincarnating. But the last section of the fight, when she summons minions and begins to cast Meteor, is where this is a mechanic that many might miss. You'd be tempted to just burn down Sadu's health to prevent her from casting her Limit Break, but defeating the minions also does damage to her, so it can be more prudent to simple fire off as many AOE abilities as you have to knock them out.
44:30 – She means Matoya. Some days you find out you're becoming your parents.
44:45 – Part two of the solo duty is even more famous! Should you fall here, as long as you don't move on to another quest, you'll reset back to after the duel with Sadu. And we're on to the second occasion we get to play as an ally: Y'shtola! For White Mage players, Y'shtola's kit is very reduced, and leans a bit heavy on damage, and players who've never tried out casters or healers might find the initial dip into the role a little weird, but Y'shtola's kit is enough to keep Hien upright and kick Magnai where it hurts.
47:34 – This attack is the Warrior Limit Break 3, Land Walker. This gives damage reduction to Magnai and all his allies, in this case, the axes.
48:13 – Apparently Magnai is a fan of The Police.
50:40 – And this is the moment that makes this solo duty so memorable. Y'shtola is a capable healer, but this shows she's got DPS with her too. FFXIV players refer to this cutscene as "The Burn (Savage)". Magnai won't be recovering form that emotional Flare for some time. He'll have to search for his Nhaama in another place.
Next time: Alliances are founded, and we begin our next steps.
Magnai's voice acting on the '"Little…?" was the perfect icing on top of that burn XD
This is your occasional reminder that- almost without exception- for the Xaela of the Steppe, combat seems to be the next thing to dating.
Today on PlayFrame: We return to the Azim Steppe, get permission to tamper with holy grounds, and witness one of the hottest burns seen since the Seventh Umbral Calamity.
Y'shtola, man. She's just… she's just too good. I love so many things about the "Little Sun" scene and its Burn [Savage], including Y'shtola (not that I'd ever say that to her face for fear of being similarly burned), but I especially love the fact that this is one of the few times where we just straight-up ignore a fight starting and walk away. We've done enough damage to Magnai's pride for one day, no need to exert ourselves further.
As for Sadu, this duty did quite a bit to make me like her more – her English VA really gave the role its all, and it shows, which makes it all the more unfortunate that we likely won't see her again for a while (since she is, of course, merely a lady of the Steppe, and our adventures will soon call us elsewhere).
Anyways, merry Christmas (or equivalent holiday)! Hopefully you're having good food, good presents, or just generally a good time!
Next time, we continue our preparations, and inch ever closer to Shadowbringers and the current end of the Free Trial.
Hello Playframe I know it might be a week and a half until you see this but I wish to recommend a game you should play "In Space and Time" I won't try to explain it because it might spoil it but I think you will like it
The mention that Azys La and The Burn aether is the same makes me think that maybe The Burn is the way it is now because the Allagans depleted it's aether by launching Azys La (and maybe Dallamud?) instead of the ascian story of it being several primal summonings.
this was such a fun part! Little sun LOL..
I thought Y'shtola was a white mage, but here she is just burning a poor man alive. Absolutely savage.
– yeah its so neat to see the supporting cast actually caring about each other & hanging out even if you aren't there to see it
– honestly i thought Hien's pkan would have been to just land Azys Lah back in the Burn, activating the rest of the Alagan force field chunks makes more sense
– ah yes Yshtola, don't you love the amazing SIGHTS in this lovely VIEW of the night sky
– are we really that surprised that Sadu, the leader of a Warrior Tribe that strongly believes in Reincarnation, which need i remind you is part of a land that chooses their Tribal leaders by having a free for all brawl, would demand Diplomacy by combat?
– in all fairness Lord Hien, the one who won the Naadam was Durmin
– heck yeah playable Y'shtola… kinda surprised her rotation isn't just a bunch of Screen nukes
– even the Sun can be roasted, such is the power of cat
– Sadu & Magnai are such a married couple i love them
Oh? they're going to The Ste~
OH IT'S IN THIS EPISODE!
20:47 Uh… I don't think Hien realizes Y'shtola is blind.
That "little sun" line had me like DAYYYUMMM!!!!
You know, enough has been said about The Burn (Savage) without me adding to it, so I will make an observation: I’m impressed at how well they towed the line with Magnai’s character. Because it is so easy to make a character like this insufferable at best and completely gross at worst… but somehow, Magnai can quote The Police and still not be threatening. A big part of it is that he, you know, takes no for an answer.
@52:00 Ohhh, the burn.
Oh sweet Mother Crystal…… Y'Shtola just has no mercy…..
OMG Y'shtola did the Yuna sending dance! Love love love. FFX is my fave final fantasy game to play ever. lol And I have to say, Sadu is probably my favorite sort of side character lately. I consider Lyse more of a core character and she truly is my favorite in that respect, but the sheer passion that Sadu shows is just…beautiful. That sort of passion is so incredibly exciting.
Yaaaaas The Burn (Savage) unlocked. 🤣
