  1. I have to get this off my chest: I have absolutely ZERO sympathy for the Blizzard company and the current state of affairs after their anti-competitive, anti-consumer practices. I do not believe there is any space to create a "FFXIV" exodus from this game.

First, you have to have an issue worth standing up and contesting the game/business model with at Square-Enix. SE is like other companies with their work/development issues. Blizzard created the most unique and predatory release and micro transaction policies that defined and almost single-handedly murdered the RPG genre! Bobby Kotick, Mike Moreheim, and the old guard at Blizzard have a lot to answer for.

Second, there is no momentum that gives credence to a FFXIV exodus at all. The pace of gameplay and the community flow of engagement allows players to vacate the game for months at a time and no one bats an eye. They get RETURN BONUSES when they come back! Trust me, the team at FFXIV know their player base and what they are interested in. Plus they pivot toward enhancing their gameplay in downward cycle periods, so this is a boon to them.

Third, do not equate the increased player engagement and relatively increased stories of rivalry within games to be an "urgent toxicity issue" in FFXIV. The game is seeing an increased culture shock primarily because SO MANY WOW PLAYERS ARE PLAYING THIS GAME LIKE WOW – AND CANT WRAP THE IDEA OF LEARNING HOW TO PLAY ANY OTHER GAME. They play ignorant to how games work and level CRIT on tank classes and STUPIDLY bemoan Tenacity or ignore it all together. This tells you everything you need to know about the current debates in the game. WoW players need to respect other games and stop trying to judge or change the games they migrate to, as if they want another WoW 2.0

  2. Wow is on the right track, I believe it'll take another banger expansion or two to really get itself back in the good graces of the player base, and for the dev team to really come together as a unit (especially after all the stuff that happened) . I personally have cautious optimism for dragon flight.

  3. In all seriousness, probably not. I don't see a mass exodus from FFXIV unless Yoshi-P and devs really screw up…continually…over an extended period of time. You know, like Blizzard.

Do I think some FFXIV players will play Dragonflight? Sure. Especially if they have a history with the WoW franchise. I won't be going back, that's all I can say. I did 14 years in WoW. I'm out of Shawshank and I'm not going back.😂

  4. There's a lot of hype for DF so I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of FF14 players check it out for launch. I doubt it will make anyone leave ff14 completely for WoW but they might consider playing it when their bored like you said (if it turns out to be good).

  5. I think it’s unlikely. I played FF14 for about 8 months but found it’s not for me( don’t like being forced to do raids and dungeons & 30 minute cut scenes lol) but it’s a very different vibe and game from Wow. Some people with Blizz history may make that switch for a while but I don’t think it will have staying power to keep them.

  6. i played a lot of FF14, i loved the story, but after got to a point that was 3 months to one patch with 1 dungeon and 1 trial, and i had to keep my subscription to keep refreshing my house… and had nothing to do in the game… i just gave up, stoped playing, stoped my sub, decided to got back to Guild Wars 2 that i hadn't played for 3 or 4 years, has no subscription, a lot of new expansions, my level 80 characters still max level, my ascended gear still relevant, no need to grind for new gear to catch up the other players, could just go play all the story that i wanted, joined a guild, could do all the content with them without them needing to wait for me to catch up, or doing without me and leaving me to do alone later… i can say, was the best decision that i made, and im very happy with gw2, there is no other MMO that respect your time like this, i can take breaks to play other single player games that launches on steam, and when i come back i can still be relevant and play with friends

  7. ff14 will remain my main mmo il check it out of curiosity but i have no faith on them removing the WoW token and making the game less horrible they already shown they are ready to remove fun wherever they need to thats whatever

  8. I agree with you about stuff. I did own an XBOX 360 for a month and that was only to play the Banjo Kazooie games because Rare sold out to XBOX. But after finding how boring Nuts and Bolts was, I ditched it and went back to Playstation 3. Unfortunately, MMOs do take time and my time is better spent getting platinum trophies in other single-player games that I love(I just hit plat in Trials of Mana, that was a great game even if I skipped the cutscenes because I saw them before) and making a Living Pokedex for Scarlet and Violet in two months. I did the entire Realm Reborn saga with only Duty Support and the test was excellent: This Duty Support makes the game solo-friendly as long as you do the MSQ. However, I don't know if I have the patience to do the

I may speedrun Heavensward a bit, get my Grand Company up a bit, but once November 18 drops and Koraidon and Miraidon descend, I am cancelling my Square-Enix account(unless I lose my progress in FFXIV for good if I do that) so I don't have to pay any more for the sub. Having to do MSQ to 6.1 hurts me as I don't have any customizable housing, I can't buy a house as the lottery will screw me over even if I had the cash, and Island Sanctuary is locked behind the hardest bosses I have ever faced in my entire life. And yes, I did play through Endwalker on an old character… who is now deleted because I felt it was way too funded. I don't want to end up buying level skips for the platinum pieces and I don't have the time to play the marketboard. Heck, the crafting and gathering jobs which I loved to do are bleh now, and with all these. Endwalker is the end for me right now. I will keep tabs on the game and see what future 6.x patches lead to. Maybe in 2024 when my nieces are old enough to be in kindergarten and I watch Pokemon anime with them, FFXIV will have a few more quality of life updates.

NOTE: I was a broken man with a poor wallet due to having to spend for level skip cash to pay the 4 million to get all ten Zodiac relics. I am never doing that again, and never touching the platinum trophies again. 🙁

(If I did go back to an MMO, I would replay Wizard101. It's more expensive with all the crown shop items but at least I could buy a game card at Gamestop to give me a free huge housing plot I could muck about in and personalize once I hit Level 15. In FFXIV, Level 15 is when I can POSSIBLY visit someone's Island Sanctuary and hide in the trees and hope that nobody kicks me out. X()

As I said, I will keep tabs on the game and maybe come back to Cici Stormy, my Lalafell boy, when 7.0 drops…

  9. Will some FF players try dragonflight? Yes absolutely. Well many long time ff players make a switch over? No why would they. Endwalker is doing good. The story is on point. A pretty good raid tier just released. Why would they switch over to a game that well showing some signs of improving is still mot exactly on stable ground.

  10. I hope people who play WoW get a good expansion but it would have no impact on me switching over or leaving XIV. WoW is that one game for me where the more I heard about it, the less I wanted to touch it. all recent news i've heard has been positive and i've been told again and again the gameplay is great, but every other aspect of the game that i would personally care about are 100% deal breakers. the world / lore / story being one of the higher turn offs but not the only turn offs

  11. Imo the term refugee refers to running away from or escaping a problematic situation. For me there are few things about ffxiv that I don’t like therefore nothing for me to run from or escape. There is 0 chance I’ll play wow at this point. 1 reason is like y’all said, barrier of entry another reason being I’m not really an mmo fan I haven’t liked any of the other mmos I’ve tried(gw2, ff11, eso, new world) I just love ffxiv. Also from what I’ve seen wow doesn’t have much to offer me. Im casual I like crafting and gathering and playing with the market board. The hardest content I do is extremes. I just don’t see a place in wows systems for me.

  12. I'm not ever going back to World of Warcraft, even if I get bored of playing Final Fantasy XIV and finally quit. I do play other games, like Stellaris, Aliens: Fireteam Elite, Stray, etc. so I'm not a FFXIV Andy or whatever. I'm just no longer interested in supporting Activision-Blizzard anymore due to a multitude of reasons and as a customer, I've decided to spend my money elsewhere.

The only MMO outside of FFXIV that looks remotely appealing to me right now is Riot's upcoming MMORPG. I feel like this is the Western MMO that the majority of WoW players have been waiting for, and this will likely draw many of the WoW refugees from FFXIV. I'm not saying Riot's MMO is going to be a WoW-killer – we all know that only Blizzard can do that. But with FFXIV's new direction for 7.0 and whatever Riot is cooking up, WoW's long game has to be flawless if Blizzard hopes to draw its refugees back into the fold.

And for all of those people saying that Microsoft is going to make WoW better – no, Microsoft will absolutely not touch WoW. Microsoft wants to compete in the mobile gaming arena and ABK – which made more money from its mobile games last year than both console and PC profits combined – will give Microsoft a license to print money.

  13. Honestly the amount they charge in that game and the amount of investment required from the player is what puts me off. You’ll have toxicity in any playerbase so the community isn’t what puts me off. I tried playing the game for a bit before 6.2 and just couldn’t get into it. Not a fan of not playing every role on one character and crafting feels awkward as a result.

  14. I’ll def be playing DF more than FF14. Love the FF story, but the content releases are very formulaic with not much really changing in terms of how you interact with the game. There are positives (balance) and negatives (stagnant) to that. Dragon riding looks and feels awesome, a welcome change. Also, my favorite role in MMOs is healing, and FFXIV healing is just mind numbingly boring to me.

  15. I’m super happy for WoW to be changing for the better but I’m done. I’ve played on and off since 2004 but I just don’t want to go back. Good for anyone that does and I wish them the best. I’ll stick to being an MMO Nomad across GW2, XIV, and ESO.
