The Insane Rise Of Final Fantasy 14 & The BS MMO Wars! (Asmongold Madness)

Spit balled some of my thoughts on the recent news, tensions & ascension of Final Fantasy 14 a few days ago. Wasn’t going to release this ramble but ey, Asmongolds arrival into the game is bringing up some pretty crazy reactions in the fandom. Just like this video, we really pay too much attention to the ridiculous & extreme ends of the MMO dialogue. Just look at the hyperbolic news on Asmongold, painting two totally different pictures & this is the BS that we allow to take the top narrative. How about we settle on both World of Warcraft AND Final Fantasy 14 being two great games & a dude trying out a game isn’t such a big deal?… althought it kinda is XD
“Everything is dual; Everything has poles; Everything has its pair of opposites; Like and unlike are the same; Opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; Extremes meet; All truths, are but half-truths; All paradoxes may be reconciled.”

  1. What I find the most problematic is really just how defensive people can get over their favorite games. Some threat them as if they were real people in need of protection or as if thes were their family. It's just a game. Have fun and don't ruin the fun of others, that's all there should be to it. All comparisons are allowed and critique can only help a game, not hurt it.

  2. Actual circumstance = wow I'd bleeding players because they're stagnating and even in some places going against their playerbase wants. At the same time FF14 sits there enjoying their critical acclaim (lol) and those mmo players who are sick of wow are looking for good mmos and try FF14. Even streamers like asmongold

  3. I think the most telling point of the whole "Asmongold" issue is that the worst behavior was on the part of the FFXIV "gatekeepers" who tried their best to keep him out of their precious… and got banned by Square-Enix for doing so. Zack seems to just want to play and enjoy the game, and entertain his audience in the process. He may be an abrasive jerk too, but he isn't trying to spoil things for anyone else, as far as I can tell. His little horde of minions… that's another story, but the worst of them get banned for the same TOS violation as the gatekeepers. Square doesn't allow you to screw with other players, they actually pay attention and act on it.

  6. ffxiv players are increasingly becoming toxiv towards new / sprout players.., , but the players that are toxiv towards the sprouts are often ex-wow players :/.. not just one isolated case..
(dunno if they are just used to behaving like that, or they used to be treated in wow with toxicity when they were new wow players or something)
… but players coming from animes, ff, or j-rpgs to ffxiv (or other mmos, just not from wow), are waay less toxic in ffxiv :/
(hope ex-wow players don't start to spread toxicity in ffxiv too much.., but rather see how "love & peace" can be nice too in a mmo and let the toxicity behind.. and those sofar toxic towards sprouts dwindle over time instead of increasing)

  7. Bruh, the guy had 200k viewers, got 7k new subs and made over $30,000 in one stream. Ain't nobody's stream 'end in disaster'. xD

Clickbait writers gonna clickbait write. I suppose "disaster" was a better headline than "all went well".

  8. The arsehole thing is an act , the real Asmongold is a very reasonable, decent bloke. The more you watch him the more you realise that he's really bright and interesting.

  9. The real toxicity in WoW was always in the M+ and PuG stuff. Asmon, Rich Campbell et al are just typical dudes having a good time. A lot of the folks (like myself) that were intrigued to go from WoW to FFXIV by those guys are mostly that way, too.

We're not here to wreck the FFXIV community or frig with you or anything, we're here to have a great time. The FFXIV players have by in large been friggin' awesome in-game.

  10. Zack is actually pretty insightful on his channel when he isn't the Asmongold character. I don't agree with what he says some of the times I seen him but the dude is way smarter than people give him credit for compared to other massive streamers that actually look super toxic people on and outside cámara.

  11. Could never get into final fantasy lore, to weird dialogue. They use fancy words for fancy words sake. And it sems like a robot wrote The story.
The only other mmo thant wow I was hyped for was Warhammer 40k. It was canceld.

  12. If you talk about toxic you need to adresse what you Think is a toxic player.
I would say what g’ets player to be toxic is that wow have both hardcore and casual players. But I only happen When they 2 clash as 1 wants to go fast and keep getting better. Where a casual is okay if they slay the raid in the end of the expasion.

  13. Ps I dont have dps meter in wow and I raid and do m+. So it’s not needed But Can help you see if you do good damage or The tank Can see if The dps is slacking.
When I play ESO I have no idea WHO does good damage or is even doing good in their raids. Cause I cant see any Numbers, someone could be slacking But I dont know as a dps meter is bannabel. They had dps meters, but The developers Said it was unfair and made Them illegals.
But I would Think that ff dont have dps Cheks like wow have so knowing your dps is important in wow. For how long it Will take you to defeat The raid boss and how much you need to improve if you wipe.

  14. I’ve been wanting to play FF14 for years…I used to play Mabinogi when that first came out and I loved the community but I’ve been so nervous about starting a new mmo, I think I’m ready to take the plunge now 🌸

  15. I didn’t have much of an opinion of Asmon prior to FF14 – now I have a new level of respect for him. His chat is like toxic animals being tamed by his intelligence. He is the reason i’m coming back to ff14. For the toxicity surrounding the huge wave of new players, this is inevitable. If you have 1 million satisfied players and 10,000 toxic players, the toxic will scream louder than the satisfied and appear much larger than they are so I don,t think this is an issue.

I actually quit in the first place due to toxicity because I didn’t like having to watch youtube videos to learn a fight my first time round and people would cuss me or leave and I hated that pressure as a tank so I just gave up. Plus my GC was rushing me for I lvls so I could join the latest raids and it just became a dull grind until I quit, so this idea that the community is heaven-scent is a little skewed but i’ll admit it is definitely better than most . Now i’m coming back to take my time and enjoy the world.

  16. I always wondered, and still wonder, why so many people care about Asmongold. Yes, he is a big streamer, yes, he is very entertaining (he has to be, its his livelihood), he is showman, he has strong opinions. But why do people believe his opinion is important? Sorry, but the millions of people playing both FF14 and WoW weigh a bit more than the 100k or 200k of his viewers. I dont get the hype. I think he's a decent guy, but still, he is just one person. A single person, no matter how big a streamer, shouldnt sent all these people into a frenzy.
It was appaling to see that many FF14 veterans took part in the stream-sniping (even though I heard they were mostly the minority – that most snipers were Sprouts… newly created characters – but I only saw snippets of the stream, so there's that), and I really wonder what they thought they would accomplish other than getting those well deserved (!!) banns.
As for the community… I cant really say anything good or bad about the FF14 community that would stand out. Same with WoW. If I do my rouletts and say hi, chances are higher to get a "hi" back in FF14 – but I also remember dungeon runs in WoW where this "hi" started an entire conversation for the whole run, and sometimes afterwards. However, I also remember the WoW forums and if you were from either the Horde or Alliance, your opinion got discredited for being from either faction. This mindset of course breeds a certain mentality. Even if you dont bother with the story in WoW, you start with being set against each other almost every turn. Plus, WoW has a focus on competition (unless you completely disregard "endgame") and lets not forget mobtagging and stealing that node or herb I just wanted to get. In 14 on the other hand if I try to kill a mob and someone else helps me, we both get XP, and I'm gathering stuff, we all have our own notes. Though I cant pinpoint any real toxicity in WoW there was always some… overarching rudeness (or something like that…) everywhere. Whereas in FF14… people in general are more chil. Yes, that ends when you enter a dungeon and the tank sprints foreward but even then, people in 90% of the time say "hi" and "gg" – something you get in WoW maybe 10% of the time – and thats being generous: I always type "hi" when I enter a dungeon – and more than once my friends in WoW told me not to be weirdo.
Ah well, those are my impressions after one year FF14 and 13 years WoW.

  17. So I’m a FFXIV mad fan, big FF fan, never been bothered by WOW, but simply what I do love, there are so many new sprouts around- it’s always been a lively game, but now it’s bogusly awsum! All I can say- thank you WOW!

  18. As a passionate RuneScape that doesn't really care about either game, I'm loving to watch this duel. I've been watching Asmongold just for his D&D and FFXIV videos, never having known him before and don't care otherwise. Also I feel like I'd enjoy FFXIV more than WoW, though I think my RS3 is even better.

  19. Toxic people play games, regardless of where they come from; you can see the same thing about encouraging people. There is no rivalry between WOW and FFXIV; just a rivalry between different people's perspectives. People struggle with different perspectives. They always have. But the good news is, people have overcome differences time and time again. A day in the life of human beings, I'd say. LOL! I'm just excited that there are so many new sprouts! Especially when they get to have fun being one. Just saying.

  20. My thing is, I don't care whether Asmongold plays or not, I'm just tired of seeing his face every time I open anything FF14. I don't have interest in him because I was turned off when he was constantly watching FF14 stuff just to talk smack about the game, call us weebs and empower his audience to be toxic. Luckily, it appears he isn't being too toxic now but I for one, just don't want to see his face all goddamn day. If he wants to play fine, but why is everyone so obsessed with posting content on him nonstop? It's annoying AF.

  21. Oh this guy. I didn't have a face to put with the name before now. Gotta say, I've watched only one of his videos and it was him and his chat making fun of zepla for 5 minutes straight. I understand that they are working together now, but idk. It still pisses me off
