So patch 6.15 landed a week or so ago but Mike always like to leave it a bit so everyone has a chance to do the content. He finally got it done the other day and he has lots to say about it; not least the struggles of finally being up to date on content and the agonising wait for the next part.

This past week Mike finally did the three new main questlines of the 6.15 patch: Hildibrand, Omega and Tataru. In Today's video he has lots to say about them, not least that he was not prepared for the agonising wait between patches for stuff like Hildibrand. What did you think of the new patch and the quests on offer?
Welcome to being a current player <3
I had a really great time with the new story content especially with Omega as an Endwalker epilogue and Hildibrand being Shadowbringers the Abridged series lol
When Omega gave its definition of the heart at the end, my jaw dropped and I just kinda sat there processing it for a few minutes before continuing the rest of the cutscene.
Please sir, I beg you, I am pleading on my KNEES, extract your spirit-bonded materia from your gearβ¦.. it no longer eats the gear itβs freeβ¦
I mean, everyone who wasn't trying to turn Tataru into a chainsmoking drunk knew Grand Endeavour was going to be pretty chill and sales-based. She's been at that for literally years now.
Sorry to say here Preach, love you man, but your personal character mutations here kind of fucked you over on that one, given how excited you were about it. You kind of forgot WHO Tataru IS in the process.
Also, for my choice with the watcher, I chose none of them were justified. They all had a point, but not a single one was justified in their choices. We donβt know what [Whole Azem] was doing at the time this all happened, and chances are they would have solved it through their own methods, which as we know from the short stories, is getting some pals together and going off to stop it themselves.
Which is exactly what we did. So all of them had reasons to make their choices, but none of them, even Emet, even Venat, made the right choice.
WELL YOU COULD SAY SPOILERS SOMEWHERE! damn!!
One thing that FF14 does well, particularly these days, is balance it's tone. They don't want it to get too dark but they don't want it to lose that grounding the darkness in the story brings. If you pay attention, you will see this transition happen in the MSQ. Even the bit where you first meet the Loperets is an example of this, as you have just finished Garlemald and had everything gone wrong and may be now facing the end of the world. They don't want things to be so dark and gritty things get depressing. In the end they want the player to feel things can be very bad but still keep a hopeful tone underneath it all.
My comment for the algorithm <3
Haven't played in a while… There's a new Hildy quest? And omega? Where do you start this stuff?
Final Fantasy in general has a history of being willing to go off the rails so you never know!
Using Close in the Distance to end the new omega quest was borderline cheating
My heart
Thatβs the ff8 alien!! :O
tarutaru are pedorace
Hildibrand speedran ShB and got to the moon within two quests.
The wait in between patches can be long when you're used to binging it. I will say though, the wait allows us to theorize and anticipate.
Preach fanning over the Hildebrand quest chain and wanting the next patch to come out is just so wholesome
The alien PuPu who was in ff8, 10, 10-2, 13,13-2 and Dissidia showing up in 14.
yep, call them "Hangman".
My issues with Omega quest:
1) We know why he "fell into the pits of despair" – because his business was failing, and critical business deal that he had staked his hopes on had just fallen through – he was left literally hopeless.
2) My character not just being blamed, but appear to feel guilt for the two girls who ran off on their own accord and got themselves killed. I don't feel that way, so it left me very indignant.
3) When saying which of the ancients you agreed with, you could not pick two of three. It was one, all, or none. So if you agreed with Emet and Venat, but thought Hermes was a loony, you could not say as such.
I often first the first two patches of an FFXIV expansion to be frustrating…..but in a good way. It's the period of world building, establishing character motivations, setting up the dominos, etc. You know its going to pay off, and that it will be worth it…..but man it can be hard to wait sometimes.
watching you enjoy yourself in FF is pure joy for me! π₯°
Hildebrand is why I quit FFXIV. That shit was weird AF
The omega Raid is required for this side quest
So… We gonna get the saucer as a mount at the end, ya? YA??!!?
I enjoyed all of them quite a bit! I think the thing I appreciated the most from Tataru's is that it touched on some of her 1.0 story and her earlier backstory, which hasn't gotten a lot of focus in all these years.
Question for anyone here who is also a crafter versus not: did Pipin give different dialogue for ppl who arenβt a Goldsmith? Cuz he mentioned that since Iβm a Goldsmith I could probably fix the necklace, and now Iβm wondering if the dialogue is different for non-crafters?
HIldy is gonna need to be FUCKING AMAZING to beat out Omega, as I still haven't done HIldy yet, but Omega just went HARD from the start with what that quest line was trying to do, and I kinda want a little more of Omega and it's musing on what makes people tick.
Tataru is gonna be a slow burn, it's way to early to tell with that one, but so far it's fine, clearly just set up for what ever is to come.
Just finished Omega so i could see this video.
Tataru's adventure quest it felt good, it sure felt good but i was mad cause i was hoping more than just that quest. Still knowing what they have make over the years i'm sure we are gonna get something emotional that being happiness of putting tears in our eyes.
But omega… oh man omega. What a cool sidestory it was… and the music choise in that quest hit me like a truck without brakes. Going to Radz-at-Han and encounter the father who lost his child watching him turn into a monster to then step on by another was brutal to me. The music and vibe in Garlemald was also very powerful especially with the tale of the two sisters, and that song that i still wish was an orchestrion to put on my house, and then go back to the moon and just thinking back in all the journey we did in Elpis was…. it still hit's me when i think back to Venat. And the final conclusion with that beautiful song looking at the stars was the cherry on top. This is by far one of the best questlines i encounter in this game that put tears in my eyes and left me with a warm feeling at the end.
Bobby Kotick edit xD
that little bobby diss at 02:09 π
2:20 THE EDITOR CALLED HIM BOBBY KOTICK
OK LOL
I don't think your Tataru head-canon is wrong …
I loved all of the stories and I can't wait for their continuation (though IDK if Omega will get one after this). If you play through whm's story up to 60, that's technically when he gets this desire to go further than the shroud and help the world, and not just Eorzea, plus he does give you a shout out as an accomplished WHM during the forming of the Ilsabard contingent! I want to see more of Hildy and Tataru, but for now I'm really looking forward to Island sanctuary.
