  1. Best decision square ever made. Classes need to be accessible. End of.
Positionals are a relic of the past and it's only this game that held on to them for so long, MNK is an example of lazy design. Can't think of ways to make the mechanics of the class rewarding or complex, so just add positionals on everything and claim skill. The problem with MNKs positionals is that they were there to cover bad design.
They are OK now, but maybe need more oGCDs, and from there can build on MNK in future xpacs without the positionals.

  2. Bro some of the stuff is cool but like… I kind of miss my positionals and the perfect balance cool down makes me question my rotations especially since masterful blitz is now a GCD so I can't even weave… But it's cool as fuck as well but man, it's gonna take some time. And this is coming from a lvl 70 Monk so I couldn't even experience the 70-80 skills yet before the patch dropped lol

  3. masterful Blitz(being an open ended mechanic) is no excuse to remove positional, and not only that but then lvl progression is horrendous and BOOORIING. Is the same sht from lvl60 to 90 minus a few animation changes, hell they're stretches of lvling where you get nothing new for a long ass time making MNK the worst class to lvl up. The positional was the identity of the class and without it is not monk anymore…..

  4. Not a fan of new riddle of wind but honestly this feels more like monk was pre shadow bringers again. I wish the blitz mechanic was an OGCD to activate to make it feel faster but it feels kind of neat to come back to GCD optimization. However Im ngl, the positionals ripped off feels awk now.

  5. I'm loving the new changes, yeah I still move into positions even when I don't need to, but having positionals shouldn't define a class you play. Masterful blitz is far better. Also missing a bootshine just because the boss decided to turn for no reason, was just annoying.

  6. Thing I like the most about monk right now is I feel like it FINALLY has an identity. Masterful blitz and the new Chakra system is dope as fuck. And the amount that they put into the leveling process of monk makes me want to level an alt.

  7. Monk: Are you breaking up with me?
    ItzJayTime: …. Its complicated

I totally agree with you. I found you because I was looking for other FFXIV monk content and obviously there isn't many out there. So to say that you are pretty much moving on, because of the changes, is sad to hear. I understand why, however. She just wasn't the one 😀

Note: I only started monk and playing FFXIV this summer so I know nothing of monk previous to 5.55.

Ya, the first time I tried out EW monk, my biggest discoveries were:
    1. Where's my Shoulder Tackle????
    2. 2 of my OGCDs were locked away? WHY? (Enlightenment and Tornado Kick)
    3. Why aren't my Tooltips talking about positionals anymore???? But just watching this video I realized why.

However, after playing with striking dummy in what felt like forever the first time I logged in, here's what I did love:
    1. I LOVE Riddle of Wind. I believe its a new skill.
It speeds up your automatic attack (not your combos) by 50%… for 15 seconds. So, if you select a mob and start auto attacking, cast Riddle of Wind, your monk will start auto-attack 50% faster (meaning 2x the DPS) …. by not even pressing any buttons.
That damage happens ON TOP of all your other weaponskills and combos.

    2. I think I'm gonna enjoy using Thunder Clap, which replaces Shoulder Charge in 6.0 Monk.
I haven't used Thunder Clap (which is the replacement for Shoulder Tackle) in duties or parties yet, but I never used SH for damage anyways. My primary use was only to use it as a "monk dash" to catch up to mobs that are running away from you. Since it now allows you to target party members, I know I may start using to tactically dash to more areas as party members often move faster than you as an unwritten FFXIV rule :D.

(edit) Oh yea, I'm still strugglling with the new gauge. I figured how to start using it but since it looks a few more skills will be unlocked past lv 80s, I'm gonna level up more and see how the new gauge works out.

I'm still sticking with monk because its been my FFXIV experience so far.

  8. I'm so fucking sad right now. Been maining it since HW and this is absolutely the worst state monk has been in. So many ogcds are locked behind blitz system, and there's nothing to weave in when perfect balance is on cd. Removing positionals too? Let's be real, all of us are still going to do it anyways because of muscle memory but now without the damage bonus. Love the mobility of the monks and how we're always moving. This rework just took out everything fun about playing monk without adding anything fun or innovative to it.

  9. I adore your forthright opinion and being able to put it to words.
I don't play monk but can sympathize with the lost identity. Coming from summoner. 6.0 decisions of streamlining rotations. I just can't find that loving spark for a former intense and busy class.

  10. Same feeling. I loved being rewarded for positionals. Kept my eye on the battle, now I got this extra gauge I need to look at and forced to spam three of the same forms to get a purple bubble… :/

I will keep going with him though see if I can find a flow I can jive with.

I only have two jobs, Monk and Astro 70+ , the rest are all under 30, so I am invested in the job.

  11. I havent played the new monk yet but it sounds a bit disappointing, if they have removed positionals I think they should maybe double down on making the class known for being the fastest in the game since you no longer have to move around as much. I feel the monk class has so much potential for being both an amazing experience and spectacle to watch but they haven't quite managed to pull it of yet.

  12. For me, Perfect Blitz is the worst of Ninja and Sam combined. There is no choice, no variation, there is a BIS-Move for Lunar, there is a BIS-Move for Solar, all of them are AOE except for the "you messed up" move, so there's no choice involved here either. This basically means that while it looks like you have choice and options, you don't really. If you need a Lunar Nadi, if you need a Solar Nadi, there is exactly one combo to do and one move to execute. It doesn't feel as fast as Mudras, it doesn't feel as rewarding as Samurais (for me), it's just the odd one.

The second thing is: The Two-Charge Fiasco.

A huge part of getting better at FFXIV comes from understanding buff alignments and Party Burst Windows.

Now your class is the "special kid" that needs 3 PBs to hit their biggest damage ability, but starts with 2 only, and is locked out of their third for 40 seconds at the start of the fight.
This means that either you will settle for hitting your Phantom Rush / TK always unbuffed if you followed the intended game design of "generate solar, generate lunar, go big boom"

…or you gotta intentionally play it wrong and go for two solar nadi with your first two PBs so that you delay your Rush by one Perfect Balance Charge and thus align it with the second party burst window of the fight and all following ones. This is just such a weird and unintuitive choice on SE's end, because its quite literally designed to conflict with party buff openers.

Then there's stuff like the deleted positionals, Fists being deleted, RoW existing as basically a DoT that doesnt snapshot and doesnt tick if you move away from the boss, Riddle of Earth being flat dmg mitigation despite being worded otherwise (its always 20%) and still having charges..

There is so much about Monk that feels (once again) like the designers dont actually play the class in optimized content, and I almost feel like I fell into a trap because I got excited once I saw the job action trailer, only to later realize that the clip started with a Lunar Nadi already, suggesting that you do PB twice in your opener and get to do the big dopamine move, when that's not actually the case.

The culling of oGCDs and Positionals means that you just stand around more, press less buttons, but hey at least you punch faster, cool?

  13. The job feels amazing. It was so cluttered in ShB and while I've always enjoyed it I'm really appreciating the new PB and would prefer it to positionals any day personally.

    Thunderclap is amazing
Crit Bootshine the enemies face is amazing
Not having to weave RoE all the time is amazing.

I do feel for those who really liked positionals but I think building encounters around heavy positionals was getting tough for SE.
