Final Fantasy XIV is a strong contender against World of Warcraft now. One of the biggest reasons for the game being as enjoyable as it is is rooted in its foundations. Even Yoshi P encourages this reason.

Me in FFXIV: How to slow my levelup progress the best……..
WOW: How to level up ASAP!
It was funny when I was idling to myself talking "Hmm, if I use fisher and botanist for the 1.1 through 1.4 patch and then resume Miner and culinarian I should be able to have enough to do log as a WAR…….." strategically I leveled up this way through and through as slow, and synced to MSQ, with all jobs…………..
But when I met WOW players they told me how they have hard time they feel pressured to 'speed up' even when they know they don't need to they feel they miss out…
100% truth
I think Yoshi-P saying that you shouldn't feel obligated to sub if you're busy or not interested in content shows exactly how confident he is that the game will be great enough to draw you back. That confidence in your own product is so impressive, I can't help but want to support the team!
Hard agree. Yoshi cracked the formula that when everyone is forced to stay subbed 24/7, no one is, as they will burn out and leave the moment theres a bump in the road big enough.
As a father of 3, I can attest to needing games I can play at my own pace because I only have a limited time in the evening to play and I want to make sure I am enjoying those precious hours.
To be fair there is some pressure. But fortunately that bandaid happens early on in the game.
I mean if they had insurmountable challenges like Cape Westwind all the time, I'm not sure anyone could handle it.
When the only reason to rush content is because you're enjoying it…
Heya chad. thanks for having your stream up earlier. Was fun watching you take on Leviathan.
My own personal experience? I literally took 2 weeks off of playing the MSQ so I could get my ARR relic sword and shield for my PLD, and then when I got further into HW I stopped for a day or two to unlock one of the beast tribe quests.
I really hope that the business model WoW is built off slowly and quietly dies. The tactics of padding out gameplay, gatekeeping, manipulation tactics, pay to progress and all the rest are insulting to players at the highest level.
The best thing you can do is to stop supporting the company that employs them. Not just the game. The entire company. The only meaningful voice we have is where we put our dollars. That is the only thing shareholders care about.
With that said, I am totally happy to support Square Enix and FFXIV. I will happily buy a mount if I have the cash for it. Or maybe a minion. Even a wedding service. I am happy to spend extra because I already feel like I get my money's worth.
I've definitely had periods where I just sis new story content, ran new raids once, and then dipped until new story dropped. And I had a great time! I also didn't stop my sub because I figured I could feel like hopping back in at any time. You can't permanently burn out if you can take a break whenever the fun starts to fade.
Yup being able to go at your own pace is nice and know you can take break and pick up wherever you left off
The whole min i-level and no-echo mechanic is such a great way to tackle old content too, or when you overleveled for later ones somehow.
hamster wheels vs place to chill and have fun
i think its kinda like this – Treat your old content well, your future content will thank you

I've met some incredible people in a very short amount of time. Getting to hang and relax with them while progressing through extreme content and beyond has been an incredible journey in just 2 months time. I can't wait to see what journies we all go on together in the future 🙂
I've been playing for almost 2 years now. The only "pressure" I've felt to play content is because they recommended it before Endwalker and it isn't even pressure just some lore I want to know before Endwalker. I skipped a lot of side-content because I wanted to catch up (and yet it still took me 1.5 years to finish the MSQ because of Dad-life lol), but it is nice knowing I can go back to old content and still have that experience.
Um .. the biggest reason is we're actually playing a game and not a beta 🙂
Some old content is fun, and when you do roulettes, it is nice to get something different.
WoW, keeping the same dungeons in mythic for a year or two is just retarded, especially since they have so many dungeons they could be rotating through.
As a fellow player who has been playing this game since 2.0 release, subbed 24/7, I never once felt burned out (other then trying to clear an EX, but that's natural)
So much to do in this game with over 10k hours, there is never EVER empty content to do.
And whoever says there isn't anything to do is either lying their ass off or they don't want to try other stuff available to them.
every online games are seasonal game, either the dev admit it and developed according so or deny it and burn every last goodwill of the player by building a prison, the former is much more reliable and sustainable in the long run.
Having FFXIV as my first MMORPG has apparently ruined me for other MMOs.
