  1. Yeah levl 30 is about where ARR slows down and the storylines feel a bit more disperate. It doesn't really pick back up until you get to Ishgard, which is in theory at lvl 50 but in reality you'll probably be about lvl 55-56 before you finish the ARR patch content MSQ and literally unlock Ishgard. What kept me going in that gap was the class quest storylines which are still good imo, I grinded out an ARR relic at 50 and Hildibrand (also at llv 50). As soon as you get to Heavensward though the story picks up and doesn't stop, it's awesome.

Praetorium is fine the first time through, what kills is is when you start queuing it daily for your Tomestones.

  2. Sorry, but I dont enjoy Bellular talking about the game that much. He really needs to play a bit more and then share his thoughts. It's alright to hear newcomers first impressions, but third video talking about sub-30 content really brings no insight

  3. Bellular says that because he's been warned by the community about ARR he's enjoying it, which is true. However that's not the only factor. I want to take me for example, I tried to play WoW, Aion, BDO, Neverwinter, and each time the game didn't pull me in, so I got convinced that I wasn't cut for the MMO format, which isn't entirely false as I'm definitely not WoW compatible.

But one day, a friend asked me to join him and other friends on FF14, I reluctantly agreed because I like playing with friends. And thus I went into the game blind, without any form of warning. And unexpectedly, the game pulled me in. Deep. One thing that did it for me was that the game was providing explanations for those tiny game mechanics and that was so refreshing.
    – Why I am doing these trivals tasks for these random villagers ?
"Because thats you're job as an adventurer. You're supposed to go look for people in distress, ask them their problem ans solve it for them"
    – Why are these people referred as "sad farmer", "embarrassed young man" and "battlecraft vendor" ?
"Because that's your perception of them, not their actual name".

The story in ARR, even with all its problems, is a great story by itself if you take the time to immerse yourself in it. Added all the qualities that Bellular and Matt have already mentioned during all those debriefs of the game and I've been playing it for 2 years straight always finding something new to do.

My point is, ARR is indeed the worst part of FF14, but by no mean it is a bad game. And while being warned about it is better to prepare oneself, it is not mandatory and ARR in itself can be a really good experience.

  4. I forget when they nerfed the dungeons, but you used to have to sleep/pull carefully in Haukke Manor, similar with Praetorium, now people can just sleepwalk through those dungeons

  5. He almost said pacing is good. HAHAHAHA sounds like copium. ARR was by far the worst experience for new players. I hear people shill it all the time but we know how the ff community is. Once you hit Storm of blood is when you really get drawn in. I think the end of heavensward was also good, but not the start and middle. I really enjoyed shadowbringers, so hopefully next will be mbetter.

  6. I tried the demo the last few days. I don't think I'm going further with it. I'm only doing the main quest line and class quests and I hopelessly outlevel the quests already. I'm level 30 when I finally got the mount quest (quest level 20). It's just not exciting getting ambushed by mobs half your level as a plot twist!
And there is so much back and forth I was looking forward to unlocking the mount but it took so long thru so much irrelevant content, now that I have it I just feel a bit done.
I do like dungeons and being a healer means the duty finder is instant.

  7. chocobo starts at lvl 20 after joining grand company and you can teach your faithful bird mount how to fight alongside you once you reach level 30. Head to the South Shroud and speak with Docette (X: 17.0 Y: 28.2) to grab “My Feisty Little Chocobo”. Complete this quest and you’ll be able to summon your chocobo as a combat companion after using Gysahl Greens from your inventory. (partially taken from this link which you may find useful explains all about the chocobo from google search https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/final-fantasy-xiv-how-to-unlock-chocobo-mount-where-to-unlock-my-little-chocobo/ )

  8. Agree on the dungeons. FFXIV's dungeons are the lowest point of the entire game, even later on they're awful, always following the same basic formula. It's a good game, but don't expect it to scratch any sort of dungeon itch. Even the better ones are so easy you could afk through them.

  9. The glacial pace of the early game is killing it for me. I stopped playing at level 20, maybe never to return. Every quest I do reminds me I could be doing pointless fetch-quest something useful with my life, relax in some better, more thought-provoking way than this. I believe people that there is something great at the mid-game and later, but if I have to suffer through something, I'd rather be learning something useful.

IMO, Square should really redo the entire questing structure of the early game it's so off-putting.

  10. How can you NOT talk about the first thing you notice : quite literally, AoE effect on the ground, I run away, Effect disappears, then boom, I got hit by it even if I'm so freaking far away from that. There is no PVP because the net code feels like a 2007 indie company is behind it and the combat locks you in animations sliding towards a target that is not even there anymore. This ruins many things in PVE as well !!! That gives a weird clunky feeling combined with bad responsiveness and the visuals, animations and sound DO NOT MATCH ..You can say that for you subjectively the graphics look beautiful but you can objectively look at the other games and you can see clearly that is waaaay behind. I notice the ugly ground textures under the foliage and when 2 objects collide. I notice the character models that lack a lot of detail. I notice the poor clipping of lots of equipment and vegetation popping especially is very bad. I notice the odd lighting and washed-out colors. You do not get a sense of "items dropping from what you kill " , you do not get anything of importance that can influence you character in any meaningful way to make you use your brain at least a bit in making some kind of build … I played this game first , then i did a lot of research and most of my issues are also talked and agreed by people who are veterans on forums /threads. The leveling was horrible spending 90% of the time running, clicking and reading tabs with NO voice acting or any emotions from characters faces because of the many issues above … It has to many technical issues or a lack of things compared to other MMORPGs .It feels and looks like a 2009 game at best with a good main storyline . I liked some boss fights , some class skills , some parts of the story that did not feel like NARUTO fillers, some armors looked nice and i love the anime style as well but overall it felt not worth investing more time in it after playing ESO,WOW,GW2,BDO,AION, BladeAndSoul,TERA,AION just on top on my head. I am happy that some feel like it is "the best mmorpg" and i know this feeling because i am guilty as well of praising what I like , but it is NOT objectively and technically a good game ! I find it strange that many people ignore what i saw in that game as issues to the point that it makes me feel weird like i am in the middle of a conspiracy plot ..
( i am honestly recommending playing the game first before making any decisions, i hope people love it and they can take years of joy out of it. there are a lot of people playing it no matter what the reasons are against or for ! YOU can love it as well. please do not take me as i am hating the game because i am not and i feel already bad because some will get a hate vibe.. )

  11. I started playing a little bit before Bellular started up. Playing very slow with my partner. We are getting close to 40. The first dungeon we did that I felt was comparable to a WoW dungeon was the Haukke Manor. Was the first one I wanted to actually stop and look around.

  12. literally just beat preatorium in lfg. the whole group except like 3 of us were vets. i stayed up with the group for all of like 20 seconds. when we got to a teleporter where the head of the group had already pulled like 7 mobs. second i clicked the teleporter, the box went away due to damage, before i could react and click it again i was dead. then boom. cutscene. i ressed, and took the shortcut, and even still, i didnt catch up to the group till idek what boss it was but a large circle donut shape electric aoe was on the floor, and as i got over to the group, 2 seconds later boss dies. kept up from there but every boss except for the eikon was over in like like 10 seconds…. didnt even get to enjoy myself still..

  13. Arr is a drag sadly, however it does have important plot points… With that said I wouldn't ever blame a character to 'WoW' through ARR up to patch 2.4 (click accept turn in quests) and just watch the cutscenes after. Once you're out of ARR man i'll tell you what, im nearing the end of the MSQ for Heavensward and the story is 100x more gripping and has drawn me into it in such a good way. So if you start with ARR just get through it, the game gets way better after!

  14. is it a good argument to say that when we feel the pacing of certain games are slow, its because we enjoy it so much we want to progress faster ?
Or the intro pace of ff14 is THAT slow

  16. @8:00 Praetorium and Castrum Meridianum, as well as the basically irrelevant ones right before the final bosses in Toto-Rak and Stone Vigil, were some unwise decisions that the 14 devs were quickly woken up to and did not repeat. However, they've ALSO yet to address the Prae+CM issue to the extent that they need to. And since allied NPCs have been made considerably better, I do imagine Prae+CM will reworked in order to allow a solo play experience with Trust-style NPC allies. It's been talked about by the devs and seems very likely to occur. Cutscenes and cinematic battles now occur as cutscenes or solo instances.
The massive bribes for unskippable cutscenes is simply a bandaid, functional but hardly ideal.

  17. I hate wen people giv the "do it unsynced" advice. You think it will optimize his experience to follow a high level player who will 1 shot everything…real fun. I farmed every pony in synced party's thru duty finder . Much more rewarding when u actually get it. Might as well buy store mounts cuz you ain't earning it unsyncd.

  18. The 50 and below dungeons are meh… but it starts getting better after, just like everything, until it gets sone really good ones.
Like everything in FF it' a journey from simplistic to complex.

  19. FFXIV is only good if you care more about LGBTQ+ rights than gameplay. Or if you care more about uWu anime than gameplay. It's bad if you value a game for its gameplay.

  20. FFXIV is not perfect, but it's always improving, and generally makes decisions that benefit game play. WoW is always getting worse, and generally makes decisions that benefit their bottom line at player expense. I'll never financially support WoW again, but the FFXIV monthly fee still seems like a tremendous value to me.
